ASSIGNMENT 2

STUDENT’S NAME: FIGUERRA, SHANE MARIEL R. SCORE: _________________

Read the following article.

Write at least one page analysis and reflection guided by the following question.

1) What is the article about?

The concept of "low-cost housing for the rich" may seem paradoxical at first glance, but it refers to a growing trend in
the real estate market catering to affluent individuals seeking affordable yet stylish living options. This niche market targets
wealthy buyers who desire the perks of luxury living without the extravagant price tags typically associated with high-end
properties. Developers are redefining the notion of luxury by focusing on efficiency, functionality, and minimalist design to
create upscale residences at more accessible price points. These properties often feature smaller square footage, smart
technology integration, and communal amenities to maximize value for money. The trend reflects a shift in consumer
preferences towards practicality and sustainability while still maintaining a sense of exclusivity and status. However, critics
argue that labeling such properties as "low-cost" for the rich may exacerbate socioeconomic inequalities by further segregating
housing options based on wealth.
2) What have you learned and realized from the article?

Reforming fiscal incentives for affordable and sustainable housing for the poor is imperative for addressing the pressing
issues of housing inequality and environmental sustainability. This entails restructuring the existing fiscal policies to incentivize
the development and utilization of housing solutions that are both affordable and environmentally friendly. Such reform could
involve tax breaks, subsidies, or grants directed towards developers and individuals who invest in affordable housing projects
with sustainable design principles, such as energy efficiency, use of renewable materials, and low carbon emissions.
Additionally, governments could implement measures to streamline regulations and reduce bureaucratic hurdles for affordable
housing initiatives, making it easier for developers to construct such housing units. By aligning fiscal incentives with the goals
of affordability and sustainability, policymakers can encourage greater investment in housing solutions that not only meet the
needs of the economically disadvantaged but also contribute to the overall well-being of communities and the planet.

3) Which among ideas do you agree or disagree with?

The statement "shortage for the poor, surplus for the rich" in the context of low-cost housing highlights a systemic issue
in many housing markets. It suggests that there is often a lack of affordable housing options available to low-income individuals
or families, while simultaneously there may be an abundance of higher-end or luxury housing options that cater to those with
greater financial means. This situation underscores socioeconomic disparities where those with limited financial resources
struggle to find suitable and affordable housing options, while wealthier individuals have access to a surplus of housing choices
that may be out of reach for those on lower incomes. The result is a housing market that exacerbates inequality and fails to
adequately address the housing needs of all segments of society.
