Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric – Unit 2 - Task 4: Oral
Expression Journey

1. Activity Description

Type of activity: Individual


Evaluation moment: Intermediate Unit 2

With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following
learning outcomes:

In this task, you will record a 3-minute video exhibiting local cultural
aspects such as iconic landmarks, parks, tourist attractions, and
culinary highlights of the place where you live or you were born, while
communicating effectively about cultural identity, gastronomy,
festivities, and personal connections to the showcased location. You
must employ appropriate language proficiency, grammar, vocabulary,
and pronunciation aligned with the course level. You will also
participate in a minimum of 3 STT (Student Talking Time) workshops,
to acquire practical experience in using English language skills in real-
time discussions.

The activity consists of:

STEP 1 / PREPARATION

1.1. Start by thoroughly studying the contents of modules 9 and 10 in


your E-Book. These modules will provide you with essential
background information for your oral presentation. Develop all the
exercises in both modules.

STEP 2 / (STUDENT TALKING TIME) STT SESSIONS

2.1. Your success in this task depends on your active participation in


STT (Student Talking Time) workshops. You must attend a minimum
of 3 STT sessions.
2.2. Your tutor will provide the schedule for these workshops. Ensure
that you attend the sessions as per the schedule. During each STT
session, you must take 3 screenshots to document your participation.
These screenshots should include one at the beginning, one in the
middle, and one at the end of the session, in total, you need 9
screenshots.
2.3. Make sure that your face and name are clearly visible in these
screenshots, as this will be part of the assessment criteria. Your score
for this stage depends on how actively you participate in every session.

STAGE 3 (Optional)

This stage is for practice only and will not be graded. For this stage,
your critical and professional thinking are required to attend the job
interview. It is now time to get the job of your life. Let´s do it together!

3.1. The student can request a 15-minute slot from their tutor for a
mock interview exercise. This activity is not mandatory, carries no
evaluative weight, and its execution depends on the tutor's
availability. If you wish to carry it out, please contact your tutor
through the established communication channels and request an
appointment for the practice session.

3.2. Students who wish to complete the practice exercise must request
their appointment during the first week of the task. Starting from the
second week, no practice slots will be scheduled.

3.2. Be on TEAMS 15 minutes before the interview to test your audio


and video hardware and settings. Let your tutor know by typing that
you are waiting for your turn, and he/she will call you.

3.3. During the meeting, your tutor will ask you some of the
following questions in English:

• Can you describe the city or town where you were born or
currently live?
• What are some unique cultural traditions or customs specific to
your hometown or current place of residence?
• Could you highlight a few popular or traditional dishes from
your region or city? How are they prepared and what makes
them special?
• Are there any landmarks or iconic places in your area that you
find interesting or significant? Could you share a bit about
them?
• Are there any important historical events or dates associated
with your hometown or the region you live in? How are these
events celebrated or remembered?
• Can you discuss any significant festivals or celebrations that
take place in your area? What makes them special or unique?
• How has the place where you live or were born influenced your
lifestyle or daily routine?
• Have you noticed any changes in your community over recent
years? If so, what are they and how do they impact the area's
culture or lifestyle?
• Do you think the local culture and traditions are well preserved
in your area, or have they evolved over time? In what ways?
• Can you share a personal story or experience that reflects how
your hometown or current place of residence has impacted or
shaped your life?

This is an interactive exercise, so do not read your answers. Create a


natural conversation with your tutor.

STEP 4 / RECORDING YOUR VIDEO

4.1. Your final task is to create a video presentation that showcases


the local culture of your area. The video should be approximately 3
minutes in duration. In the video, focus on:
• Iconic places
• Parks
• Attractive restaurants
• Tourist attractions
• Cultural identity
• Local cuisine
• Festivals and celebrations

4.2. Share how this place has impacted your life. Always keep the
camera on during the recording. You can choose to create a
presentation with photographs or take the viewers on a live tour of the
places you wish to showcase. Ensure that the audio quality is clear and
that you use correct grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation in
accordance with the level of the course.

4.3. Once you had recorded your video, upload it to YOUTUBE and
share the link in the forum, be sure your video is public.

STEP 5 / SELF ASSESSMENT

In Step 5, you are required to complete a self-evaluation based on an


honest reflection of your performance within the course.

5.1. Please rate each of the following items on a scale of 1 to 5, where


1 is never and 5 is always, and attach it to the final document of this
task. This self-assessment is a critical component of your overall
assessment and will aid in understanding your personal development
and progress throughout the course. Your genuine and thoughtful
input is appreciated for a comprehensive review of your learning
journey.

For the development of the activity, consider the following


aspects:
In the Initial Information Environment, you must check out the
agenda to verify the opening and closing dates of the task.
In the Learning Environment, you must check out and study the
Online Content (Level B1 modules 7 and 12). Also, participate in the
forum for the development of Individual and Collaborative activities.
In the Evaluation Environment, every student must upload the PDF
format document, with all the activities required.

2. General Guidelines for the Development of Evidences to


Submit.
For Individual evidence, consider the following:
• All students must participate in the forum to develop Stages 2
and 4.
• It’s the student’s responsibility to participate in at least 3 STT
sessions.
• Students who wish to complete the practice exercise must
request their appointment during the first week of the task.
Starting from the second week, no practice slots will be
scheduled. Remember this stage will not be graded. Every
student must show his-her identification card during the TEAMS
meeting. The tutor will make questions to verify the student´s
identity.
• For practical interviews via Teams, send a message (don’t call
the tutor without authorization) via Teams 15 minutes before
the scheduled hour for your interview. Let you tutor know you
are ready to have your interview.
• The day of the interview and the STT sessions, verify that all
your electronic devices work properly (internet connection,
camera, and microphone).
• Every student must submit the requested product in the
environment indicated by the teacher.

Before submitting the requested product, students should check


that it meets all the requirements mentioned in this activity guide.

Please, note that all individual or group-written products must


comply with the spelling rules and presentation conditions that have
been defined. Regarding the use of references, it is important that
the product for this activity adheres to the APA sytle.

In any case, please adhere to the referencing guidelines and avoid


academic plagiarism. You can support this by reviewing your written
products using the Turnitin tool available on the virtual campus.
Please be aware that, according to Agreement 029 of December 13,
2013, Article 99, the following actions are considered violations of
academic integrity, among others: literal e) 'Plagiarism, which means
presenting as one's own the entirety or part of a work, document, or
invention created by another person. This also includes the use of
incorrect citations or references, or proposing citations where there
is no match between them and the reference.' And literal f)
'Reproducing or copying, for profit, educational materials or research
product results that are subject to intellectual property rights
reserved for the University.'

The academic sanctions that a student may face are as follows:


a) In cases of proven academic fraud in the respective academic work
or assessment, a grade of zero points will be assigned, without
prejudice to the corresponding disciplinary penalty.
b) In cases related to proven plagiarism in academic work of any
nature, a grade of zero points will be assigned, without prejudice to
the corresponding disciplinary penalty."

communication skills with effective articulation. Their
speech is coherent, understandable, and carries a clear
meaning. The student demonstrates excellent

their communication.

and 30 points.
Third evaluation
criterion:
Language Medium Level: The student encounters challenges in
