Welcome to the English 1 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module
5 on Telling and Asking Sentences.
This module is collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed
by educators both from public institutions to assist you, the teacher
or facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and
economic constraints in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided

In this Module, you will easily recognize telling and


asking sentence from other kinds of sentences.

It is important to learn this lesson so that you can


express what you feel and be able to learn the correct
punctuation mark used in a telling sentence and you can
easily recognize which sentence asks question. You can
also give correct response whenever someone would ask
an information about you.

At the end of the lesson, you are expected to


recognize telling and asking sentences.

What is It

There are kinds of sentences namely:


-telling sentence and asking sentence

➢ Telling sentence- tells something.


It is a statement.
It begins with a big letter and usually ends with a
period (.). It expresses a complete thought.

Example:
• The banana is sweet.
• The children are playing.
• Ann is helpful.

➢ Asking sentence

a. Requires information for the answer.


It starts with the 5 WH questions (Who, What, Where.
When, Why and How).

e.g.
• Who is your teacher?
• What is your favorite color?

b. Requires yes or no for an answer.


Asking sentence which is answerable by Yes or No.
e.g.
• Is it a bird?
• Are you happy?
