INDIA

Introduction (1 min):
As you may all know, the title “ the most populous country in the world” had always belonged to
China until the 14th of April, 2023, India officially took over that title with more than 1.4 billion
residents. Nowadays, India is not only famous for its population but also known as a unique land of
vibrant colors, breathtaking landscapes and rich history, which made India unlike any other nations.
Throughout history, the growth of ancient India had influenced many SouthEast Asian countries,
including Vietnam. That’s why our team has chosen India for today’s show.
National costume (2 mins):
The traditional costume of India is called Sari. A Sari is a strip of unstitched cloth, ranging from
four to nine meters in length, that is draped over the body in various styles. For women, while wearing the
Sari, they’re not allowed to show their legs because these are the parts that reveal their social status in
India's caste system. There is also a type of Sari for men which is named Achkan. Achkan was commonly
worn by the grooms during wedding ceremonies or other formal festive occasions. It may be embroidered
with gold or silver. A scarf called a Dupatta is sometimes added to the Achkan. In short, the Sari designs
are mostly similar, the personal choice of colors and type of fabrics is what makes every Saris unique.
Saris are usually known by different names in different places. For example, white Saris with golden
borders, are known as kavanis and are worn on special occasions. A simple white sari, worn as a daily
wear, is called a mundu. There’s even a project called The Sari Series that provides a documented
resource of over 80 different regional Saris of India.

Some facts about India:

Being influenced by Buddhism and Islam, Indians believe that food was a gift from the Supreme Being
and using their bare hands to eat is their way to show respect and gratitude for the food they receive. This
may shock many people at first but when you give it a try, you will actually feel the taste and spice of
Indian food so much better and maybe even more delicious than using any spoons or forks.
According to the Vedas - a large body of religious texts originating in ancient India, the cow is considered
a sacred animal and symbolizes wealth, strength, and motherly love. That’s why killing cows for food has
been banned in many areas in India and it seems to be impossible to see any beef in Indian meals or street
foods.
