Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE if not.

GENERAL STATEMENT AND SPECIFIC STATEMENT
Planet, for example is more general than the words Mercury, Earth and Mars.
There are many words that can be classified as planets other than example above like
Venus and Jupiter. Therefore, the examples given are the specific ideas or related words
of the Planet.
Read the following pair of statement:
1. a. The doctors are heroes of pandemic.
b. Dr. Santos from Bataan Hospital treats Covid-19 patient.
First sentence (a) is general statement as it covers broad categories or group of people
like “doctors.”
a. The doctors are heroes of pandemic
second statement (b) is very specific as it talks about a particular individual named “Dr.
Santos,” that supports the statements, “Doctors are heroes of pandemic.
b. Dr. Santos from Bataan Hospital treats Covid-19 patient.
Statements are classified as general and specific.
General Statement expresses the main point.
Specific Statement provides evidence that define general statement.
GENERAL covers the group of doctors
The doctors are heroes of pandemic
SPECIFIC refers to a particular individual. Support the first statement “doctors are
heroes”.
Dr. Santos from Bataan Hospital treats Covid-19 patient.

General Statement Specific Statement

The student loves English subject. Most Grade 6 pupils love to study English
grammar lessons.
Vegetables are healthy food. Carrots are rich in vitamins and minerals.

Let’s Remember!
We distinguish the difference between general and specific statement by simply read
through the sentence and identify the word or group of words that the details relate to.
