BULIAG DATE: JULY 5, 2022

COURSE/SECTION: BTLE -IA 2A
INSTRUCTOR: MR. EDLOR TURTUGA
MODULE 1: USING AND APPLYING LUBRICANTS/COOLANT

Information Sheet 1.
SELF CHECK: There are three choices for you to answer please select only
one by writing the letter in your answer sheet.
A. 1. The role of the industrial lubricants is to;
a) reduces the amount of friction and wear from the moving surfaces of
machinery.
b) Increase the amount of friction and wear from the moving surfaces of
machinery.
c) Absorb the amount of friction and wear from the moving surfaces of
machinery
A. 2.Lubricants are also termed as the;
a) heat transfer fluids
b) Cold transfer fluids
c) Warm transfer fluids
c. 3. Which of the following is not common kinds of industrial lubricants?
a) motor oils,
b) marine oils,
c) coco oils

A. 4. Engine coolants provide excellent protection of all;

a) hard metals in the cooling system and engines
b) soft metals in the cooling system and engines
c) medium metals in the cooling system and engines

B. 5. Anti-oxidants, anti-foaming agents, rust & corrosion inhibitors, metal

deactivators, are
a) Common additives
b) Rare additives
c) Pollutants

Information sheet 2.
Self-check: Answer what is called for: Please provide your own answer
sheet.
1. A coolant is a fluid which flows through a device to prevent its overheating,
transferring the heat produced by the device to other devices that use or
dissipate it.
2. Cutting fluid is a coolant that also serves as a lubricant for metal-shaping
machine tools.
3. Liquid nitrogen which boils at about -196 °C (77K), is the most common
and least expensive coolant in use.
4.How can be the dry ice and water be used as coolant.?
Because of its low temperature at normal atmospheric pressure, it is
useful as a coolant.
5. Refrigerants are also known as coolants used for reaching low temperatures
by undergoing phase change between liquid and gas.

Information Sheet 3.
Self-check:
1. What is the synonym of refrigerant?
Coolant
2. What is the difference between Lubricants and coolant?
The differences between coolant and lubricant. Coolant is to remove
the cutting heat produced in the cutting zone and maintain a low cutting
zone temperature while the lubricant is to lessen the rate of heat
generation by lowering the coefficient of friction between the cutter and
the chips rake surfaces.
2. What are the types of refrigerants?
R-4l0A, chlorodifluoromethane, tetrafluoromethane
3. Give at least 2 common kinds of lubricants?
Oil, Grease
4. Give your reasons why lubricants and coolant is important in the
industry?
It because reducing and eliminating heat buildup in the cutting zone
and workpiece are two of coolants crucial roles in the machining
process. Reduces friction between the tool and chip removal by
offering lubrication, clears the work area of chips and tiny abrasive
particles.

Information Sheet 5
Self-check
1 Define housekeeping and explain its purpose
The provision of a clean, comfortable, safe, and aesthetically
pleasing environment may be referred to as housekeeping. The purpose of
housekeeping not merely cleanliness is part of housekeeping. It includes
maintaining clean and organized work environments, keeping hallways
and floors clear of trip and fall risks, and removing waste (such as paper
and cardboard) and other fire dangers from work places.
2.Name and describe one cleaning solution.
Detergents type of cleaning solution agent used from home. They work by
breaking up dirt or soil making it easy to wash it away.
3. List at least 3 housekeeping tools and equipment’s.
1. brush
2. grout
3. spray bottle
4 How to dispose lubricants?
Should be taken to your local household recycling site for safe
disposal.
5. What is green cleaning?
Green cleaning refers to cleaning without causing pollution.
