Traces of Grace
Dear Fellow Parishioners; Last week I shared with you some thoughts about our future as a parish community. I focused on one of the keys to that future. That key is how we are developing our current and future faith life through our Parish School and parish Faith Formation, especially to our younger parishioners. This week I would like to take a few sentences and remind of us another way we secure our future in the larger parish. Fred Mancilla, our seminarian intern, remarked to me the other week, as we were leaving the parish grounds after 9 pm, that he was amazed at how many cars were still in the parking lot. He wondered what could be going on that late in the evening. I remarked that honestly I was not sure, since we have so many active ministries and support groups who gather at our parish for meetings and support, but that I was certain that it was all good! While much of the ministry which motivates our parish is volunteer based, we also need to have a paid professional staff to train, guide and support our large parish. These staff members who work long hours are dedicated to the parish and together advance the mission of our parish community of St. Edward the Confessor/San Felipe de Jess. As our facilities age (as we all do!), maintenance becomes an ever increasing issue. With a great crew, our Facilities Manager works hard to keep our parish facilities functioning and clean. Our Finance Council, consisting of parishioners and some staff, are constantly working on the smooth operation of our parish. Together they review and recommend changes to me in regards to the financial workings of our parish. Currently we are working on the reallotment of facilities costs as well as future adjustments to the budget to keep costs down. In parishes, like in your homes or businesses, costs keep going up. Because of the current economy, the ordinary income of the parish, (that is, what we contribute through the Sunday collection) has been about the same for the past several years. You know what that means. Costs can outrun income and, if not kept in check, can exceed our income. I am thankful for the good work of our Finance Council who works closely with our Accounting and Business Offices to assist me in making prudent financial decisions. Embracing our Parish Mission Statement and working on the goals of our Parish Assembly, our Pastoral Council works with me to implement the future direction of our parish. It is a great think tank and visioning council who help to sharpen the focus and direction of our parish efforts. Their collective wisdom reassures me that our parish cannot and is not remaining static. To be static only stifles the Spirit and restricts our future as a faith community. In a couple more weeks, you will be able to review our annual Financial Report as well as an update on the efforts of the Pastoral Council as published in the bulletin and available on our website, www.stedward.com. Your prayers, your efforts in volunteering whether it is leading a group, stuffing envelopes, making sandwiches for the poor, cleaning the church, as well as your regular financial support of the parish community helps focus us on the future of our parish. With Gods help and guidance, we will continue to be a beacon of hope in Capistrano Beach and on the bluff overlooking the Pacific. Together in Christ;

Fr. Steve Sallot Pastor

Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time

Fr. Steve Sallot Prroco

PART 1 OF 3 NEW MASS PRAYERS AND RESPONSES (Text in bold represents the wording that has changed in the Roman Missal) On the first Sunday of Advent, November 27, we will begin using the new translation of the Mass, as Fr. Chris described in his sermon series. Here are the changes for the congregations parts of the Mass. We will project the new words on the screens at St. Edward, and we will have cards in the pews at San Felipe for all to follow along with the changes. You can also find the new words in the missalettes, or feel free to bring your own new missal or Magnificat. Greeting Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And with your spirit. _______________________________ Penitential Act, Form A (Confiteor) I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. _______________________________ Penitential Act, Form B Priest: Have mercy on us, O Lord. People: For we have sinned against you. Priest: Show us, O Lord, your mercy. People: And grant us your salvation. Gloria Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, Almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, Have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
