MECH 6961-W2024 - Low Emissions Combustion Design Case Study-W2024
MECH 6961-W2024 - Low Emissions Combustion Design Case Study-W2024
Course Objectives
The subject of the case study will be on the challenges faced in designing new low emission
combustion systems for decarbonization; in particular, for utilizing Ammonia, Hydrogen and
Hydrogen blends as fuels for Combustion Systems. The technical subjects studied as part of the
course will include flame types and combustion dynamics, considerations relevant to injection
system design, combustion and emissions modeling techniques and challenges, the use of
Computational Fluid Dynamics [CFD] and other numerical simulation tools used in the design
process.
The main objective of this course is to introduce the students to the modern Design and Analysis
Methods and Tools currently being used in Industry, in the effort to significantly reduce the Carbon
footprint of gas Turbine Engines, for both land-based Industrial Power Generation; as well as, for
Aviation applications.
