As part of an integrated product solution, AVEVA E3D Design 3.1 may integrate with AVEVA Engineering and
Schematics products through capabilities such as the Piping Integrator feature. Further, AVEVA E3D Design
3.1 may be integrated with AVEVA Asset Information Management, epitomised by the Design in Context
feature that allows the direct interrogation of the AVEVA Asset Information Management Dashboard in the
Model and Draw environment.
AVEVA E3D Design 3.1 has been designed from the outset to be compatible with AVEVA PDMS and Hull &
Outfitting 12.1.SP5 and it uses the same database and data management technology, enabling the two
products to be used in conjunction on operational projects.
AVEVA E3D Design 3.1 introduces a series of new developments for both Marine and Plant industries:
• Cross-discipline Space Management application.
• Introduction of the Hull Structural Design application.
• Support for large co-ordinate modelling.
• Improved integration of Laser data, including the introduction of Solid Pointcloud rendering and data
highlighting.
• Multiple model enhancements to aid the design workflow in Plant and Marine industries including
allowance for Grid Format positioning.
• Draw Improvements (incl. combination of Draw features and canvas in the Model module).
Please refer to the AVEVA™ Everything3D 3.1.0 User Bulletin and collateral for further information on the
capabilities introduced by the AVEVA E3D 3.1.0 product.
Where migrating to AVEVA E3D Design 3.1.0 from AVEVA PDMS / Hull & Outfitting 12.1.SP5 or an earlier AVEVA
E3D Design product version, please consult the AVEVA™ Everything3D 3.1.0 Migration & Interoperability Guide
for guidance on specific data considerations.
Further to the introduction of the Work Packs capability in the previous release, this release introduces
several enhancements:
A new hierarchy Explorer has been introduced that displays Work Pack
data in a convenient form. Work Pack data is organized by Work Area or
by Work Pack Type.
The prompted Work Packs for Model Item form displays all the
Work Packs that contain the current element or one of its
ancestors.
For example, a piping component itself may be in a Work Pack, it
may be part of a spool that is in a pack, and its pipe may be in
multiple packs.
• The Pack Items grid lists the pack items for the selected pack;
it lists the pack item name and its element type
The Status tool can be used to show the status of Work Packs.
The Work Packs list will reload for the selected Status Definition.
The first grid lists Work Packs; it lists their check status indicator, pack name, pack type and work area. The
check status indicator shows either Item status consistent with work pack status, or Item status not
consistent with work pack status.
The second grid lists the pack status, followed by each pack item status data for the selected pack; it lists
their check status indicator, pack item name, element type, status numerical value and description.
If a pack item has a status value not assigned or at a lower numerical value than the pack status value, it will
be indicated as inconsistent. If a pack item type is not included in the status definition it will be ignored for
this check.
For further detailed information on the creation, modification and use of Work Packs please refer to the AVEVA
E3D Design 3.1 User Documentation.
The default setting is false and the setting is retained across E3D Design sessions.
Weld Management
This release introduces welds and weld management to the Structures application. Welds (STWELD) can now
be created on structural plates and joints, defining the weld path, and storing the weld detail information.
As a prerequisite, weld details are defined by a Weld Detail (WDET) element in the catalogue. Here the
properties of the weld such as type, throat thickness, bevel, etc. can be defined. The Weld Details can then
be referenced by catalogue or template joints, either explicitly or by using the Rules Engine.
When welds are created in Model the weld details are copied to the structural model. These details can then
later be used within Draw to create weld symbols.
Welds can be created in Design both as part of a section joint or in relation to a Plate (Plates can be welded
together or to supporting beams). Further detail on these two workflows is explained below.
The visibility of Welds in the 3D model is an indicative representation that does not adapt to the type or size of
weld, or end preparation.
If creating a template welded joint, the weld details can also be defined in the properties of the template rather
than needing to refer to a WDET in the catalogue.
• Welds in Joints
The example welded joints below have been included in the APS project. Many of these welds make use of
the Rule Engine to determine which weld detail should be selected for the given structural context.
The weld position, path and detail are defined as part of the catalogue or template joint definition. Weld
path creation is aided via a tool available in the Model View form that allows the weld path to copy the
As seen in the defintion of the weld on the Model View form, the weld detail can be defined either explicitly
or with a rule. Creating a rule using the Rule Engine allows the weld details to vary for different attributes
of the same joint. Different rules can be written for each of the welds within the joint. Here is an example
where the weld size between the beam and wingplate changes depending on the thickness of the beam web:
In E3D Design the welds are created when a joint specification with
included welds is selected (via the Include Welds Geometry checkbox on
the Create and Modify Joint forms). They are created as STWELD
elements and copy the catalogue weld detail definition properties.
The connection and associated Weld can be checked and modified using
the Connection Review form mentioned in the section below.
• Welds on Plates
Welds on plates are much the same as for joints in that they are STWELD elements with similar properties.
Further, they can use the information from Structural Connection (STCONN) elements used in Bounded
Plates to reference the edge that that they should be located on in response to model changes. Welds can
be created between plates or between a plate and a section.
The creation of welds on Plates is controlled by a new section on the Plates ribbon. There are three primary
methods of creating welds: Automatic, Create and Update. The weld details can be set either explicitly or via
Rule Manger rules.
The manual Create option allows welds to be created from a selection of sections and plate:
The weld details that are assigned to the weld can be either:
• Set explicitly using the chosen item via the Weld Detail options list.
• Set by the Rules Engine using the chosen rule selected via the options list. These rules can be defined
in the catalogue and can assign different weld details depending on the logic chosen, for example,
based on the thickness of the two plates being welded:
Example weld symbols have been included for all the example weld details included in the APS project. They are
located below TT/DRA/PRJ/SYMBOLS/Structural-Weld-Symbols.
The form is split into two with the top section used for
navigation and the bottom section used to verify checks
and make corrections.
New pseudo attributes have been added to the planar elements Plates (PANE), Floors (FLOOR) and Walls
(GWALL).
These attributes are: GAREA (Gross Area) & NAREA (Net Area).
The workflow for positioning negatives in a panel has been enhanced at this release. Accessed via the Create
> Negative button within the Plates tab, the context editor has been updated to include a new option to
allow the user to set a reference point from which the negative can positioned.
For further detailed information on the creation of multi-inflection point conveyors, including requirements for
the import data, please refer to the AVEVA E3D Design user documentation.
Take-up Variations
Six new Take-up variations are included in this release, expanding on the existing four. These include
several Dual Drive arrangements.
Important note: All items of the types listed above from either the standard support catalogue or any user defined
catalogue databases can be used with this feature, however there may be some additional administrative steps
required for use in design. For example, a new hanger size will potentially require additional catalogue work to
ensure that hanger components exist at the new sizes. The hanger templates may also need to be updated within
design because of this as well. Please refer to supports administration guides for more information about relevant
customisation requirements.
When the application is launched, any nominal bore table(s) are collected and available bores are displayed
in the available bores grid. If no Nominal bore table(s) are found, then only system defined bores are
displayed (this can still be useful for extending the capabilities of existing standard support types).
The user selects the bores that they wish to use and then they navigate through the tabs, either by using
or by directly clicking on the tabs:
Once bores have been selected then it is necessary to update the Outer Diameter field within the selected
bores frame. This is required because many supports within the catalogue rely upon this parameter to set
the design geometry.
The Ancillaries tab has an option list for MDU database selection. This enables bores to be extended into any
number of pre-existing sets of user defined support databases. Selections are maintained against the selected
databases until the form is applied or cancelled and selections can be checked at any time by switching between
each database selection in the option list.
Once the selections have been made and they are applied, new catalogue data is created for the new bores.
If the application detects that support data already exists for a given bore, then the creation request will be ignored
for the selected support and the application will continue to service any other outstanding requests.
Once the creation process has been completed then administration activity can begin to prepare the new
sizes for modelling (for example modification of design parameter data). Please be aware that new support
bore sizes may not be active by default and these must be activated with the active standards tools in
Paragon.
The above process can be repeated any number of times with the proviso that any existing size data will be
ignored during the creation process.
Limit and hole visibility needs to be turned on prior to using the Parallel to Component function.
The stiffener created parallel to a limit or hole is a straight stiffener by default; this can be changed to a
Curved Stiffener by using the context ediror menu option:
A Stiffener, created at an identified distance from the hole can be defind as a Straight or Curved Stiffener,
noting there is limited support for a straight stiffener at this release.
The stiffener will be created with the defined point and angle. Stiffener point and angle values are
available to modify via the Properties form.
Scantling Type of Functional Area Arrangement can be queried to find weight by Q NWEI command which is
calculated Weight of Stiffener according to Profile Scantlings. This can be achieved by using Mass Property
Calculation function for Weight and CoG which also allows to make partial calculation for part of Profile
within a Space.
Curve Length can be queried for Common Reference Model Curves or Local Curve in Panel by selecting the
ICRCUR element as the Current Element and query by Q FNCLCB:
The feature checks that objects associated with the model have a valid reference. It should be noted that
objects with non-intelligent positions are always considered valid.
The check can be used in combination with Hidden Annotation mode, but not with the Model Ref. Check.
The DDNM on labels with non-intelligent positions is not checked by this facility.
This attribute will allow Draw Administrators the choice to define Dimension Styles with the Stacked
Fractions mode required to apply across drawings as per the next example:
Graphical Explorer
This release introduces the Graphical Explorer to E3D Design for model navigation and reference. Supported
by the AVEVA Graphical Change Service, the graphical explorer improves performance when rendering large
models, with model elements loaded from a generated cache using the AVEVA Rendering Framework (ARF).
The Graphical Explorer can be accessed via the Views group in the
View tab.
The Graphical Explorer window displays a read only 3D view that can be populated with elements from a
Drawlist and manipulated (for example, zoom, pan, and rotate) in the same way as any other 3D view. The
When the Model application is opened for the first time, the Graphical Explorer displays by default. The
display state is then serialised (located at C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Aveva\AVEVA E3D Design\).
If the Graphical Explorer window is closed when the application exits, it will not display when the application is
reopened. A baseline cache (cache0) is used to initially populate the 3D view and set the view limits. The baseline
cache can be set up using the AVEVA Graphical Cache Manager installed with the AVEVA Graphical Change Service.
The Graphical Explorer provides context to a design activity in the principal 3D window, allowing a designer
to utilise the Graphical Explorer in a separate window to navigate the model and promote elements to the
principal 3D View (via an introduced right-click PowerWheel option Add to Global Drawlist). To this end,
some functionality is currently not supported for use with the Graphical Explorer window and user interface
options are disabled when the Graphical Explorer is the current view e.g., model modification features.
For further detailed information on the use of the Graphical Explorer please refer to the AVEVA E3D Design user
documentation.
To support this capability, a new option Create Cloud Point Cloud has been
added to the Access button within the Point Cloud group in the Admin tab to
allow the creation of a cloud-based Point Cloud.
Please note that a local and cloud hosted Laser Point Cloud cannot be used in the same E3D Design Project (MDB)
and session.
To support cloud hosted laser data, the clash options tab of the Clasher
form has an additional check box Batch cloud clashing in the Point
Cloud options frame.
When using point cloud datasets in the cloud, the option to use batch cloud clashing mode becomes
available. In this mode, instead of clashing elements one at a time against the point cloud data, multiple
elements are sent to AVEVA Point Cloud Manager, and all clashed in one operation. This reduces the time
required for clashing in the cloud.
By default batch clashing is enabled for cloud datasets. Although but it can be turned off by the user this is not
recommended. Once a clash has been performed using batch clash mode, all subsequent clashes in the session will
be performed in batch mode.
Please note that where performing a clash operation via command, the Batch cloud clashing is off by default and
must be set using the command LMI BATCH ON.
The user must complete all fields in the prompted Machine Learning form.
PML Callable Location File Path (STRING) Used to define the output location of the PMLNETCALLABLE
dll.
Advanced Work Packages
This release extends the Advanced Work Packages capability by introducing enhancements to sequencing
and visual queries.
For further detailed information on the creation, modification and use of Work Packs please refer to the AVEVA
E3D Design 3.1 User Documentation.
• Configuration
Before work packs can be used on a project it is necessary to create some configuration data according to
the project needs.
Once work pack activity is underway on a project, modifying and deleting configuration data can impact existing
work pack data.
The Work Packs Configuration form can be used to define the Work Pack Types to be used on a project, or
projects that reference the project.
Each Work Pack Type must have a Collection Hierarchy. This defines the types of elements that will be
managed by that Work Pack Type. Each Work Pack Type can have Collection Filters. These are used to filter
the list of available members when modifying a Work Pack.
Selected queries can be run against the content of the Drawlist or the Current Element.
Functionality is available to measure a distance using a working plane projection by selecting a plane on the
PowerCompass™.
Features introduced at the recently released AVEVA Everything3D 2.1.0.26 and included in this release
are detailed below.
Please refer to the AVEVA™ E3D 2.1.0 Release Documentation for further information on features introduced at
AVEVA E3D 2.1.0 update releases.
The Copy function has been extended at this release to allow the copying of an element to a new hierarchy
owner. The copy context of the following commands has been extended:
• Copy & Paste (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V)
• Copy (COPY)
• Move (MOVE)
• Rotate (ROTATE)
• Scale (SCALE)
A new Owner option has been added to the Context Editor menu.
On clicking Owner, the user is prompted to pick a new hierarchy owner for the identified element in the
Model Explorer.
A connection is created by setting the Connection Reference (CONREF) attribute of the End Datum (ENDATU)
to the panel/floor element reference. If the section is at an angle to the plane, the Cutting Plane (CUTP)
attribute of the fixing will be set to ensure the beam is flat to the plane. The specification form is then
prompted to allow the selection of a specification.
After connecting to a panel, the panel element will have the End Reference Array (ENDRFA) attribute set to
any ENDATU elements which are connected.
Rule Manager
The Rule Manager allows Administrators to configure logical rules for a project, which can be executed as
Design elements are created, automatically setting attributes and properties. This system can speed up the
design process, and ensure created elements are compliant with any given standard and design intent.
Currently, the Rule Manager can be used to create rules for Design Properties of Structural Joints, Fittings
and Design Templates. The system is also compatible with the Automatic Joints feature. There is a plan to
introduce more applications for the Rule Manager in the future.
As an example, the following description will demonstrate Rules in the context of the Structures application
and the use of a Wing Plate Joint from the AVEVA Projects ACP Sample Data.
A Structural Designer chooses a Variable Thickness Wing Plate joint to connect an identified Bracing section
with a Column. This joint includes Design Properties for Plate Thickness, Stiffener Thickness and Rathole
Radius, the values for which must be entered before the joint is created.
The values could depend on many factors, such as the standard being used, the size of the connected beams
or the flange thicknesses. Previously, the Designer would need to ascertain these properties before creating
the joint, but now they may be set by Rules.
The Rules then select values for these properties based on pre-defined logic.
• Catalog Administration
Rules are created and managed in the AVEVA Catalog, Paragon module.
Rules are owned by Rule Set (RLSET) elements. A RLSET may be owned by a Rule Set World (RLSWL) or
Structural Category (STCA), to allow flexibility when building the catalog.
New options are available in the Structures application for Creating and Modifying Rule Sets. The Rule Sets
may be viewed and navigated using the Ruleset Browser, which is available in the Tools group.
Once a Rule Set is created, it can be linked to a catalogue component or template via the Rule Set Reference
(RLSREF) attribute. An option has been added to the Model View form to allow the link to be created.
RLOGIC elements
arranged in tree
For further detailed information on the use of the introduced Rule Manager form please refer to the AVEVA E3D
Design 3.1 User Documentation.
A Rule Checker is available to test the rules defined within the Rule Manager form. This ensure that Rules
achieve the desired results without the need to enter the Model module to create elements. The Rule
Checker can query multiple values of different parameters simultaneously, displaying the results in a grid.
The Define Template Properties form has been improved with general validation checks of data before
‘Include’ and ‘Replace’ can be applied.
Stairs, Ladders & Handrails - Extend functionality to allow specification of the TOP and BOTTOM hoops
The specification of different Top, Bottom and Intermediate cage hoops is now possible for Rung Ladders in
the Stairs, Ladders and Handrails application.
Administrators may modify an SLH Standard and configure allowable sizes and positions for cage hoops using
the SLH Admin Tasks form. Users may then select hoops from the valid values.

Further, the Import Model from STD files form has been updated to include an options list to Load Cases
from: ALL, CE, and a list of STRUs that contain LCDE in the current database.
The Import Model from STD files form has been further enhanced with the ability to automatically (Auto)
match load cases.
The Modify Member Loads form has been updated so that the Dismiss button clears aids from the screen.
The sequential numbering has been replaced by the Load Case Number and is ordered based upon this entry.
For further detailed information on the use of the introduced feature to the Structural Analysis Interface please
refer to the AVEVA E3D Design 3.1 User Documentation.
The form can be used to create or modify existing Structural Specifications, including:
• Profile Specifications.
• Profile Fitting Specifications.
• Panel Fitting Specifications.
• Joint Specifications.
• Merged Joint Specifications.
• Automatic Joint Specifications.
From a creation standpoint, the new Specificaiton form is prompted on clicking the respective Specification
button in the Create group of the SPECIFICATION tab. The Create Specification form will open initiallly and,
on confirmation of Specification details, the Specificaiton adminstration form will be prompted. The
Specificaiton administraton form is directly displayed on prompting via a modify step.
The required Specification content can be achieved through the following supported steps:
• Select the Specification to Create or Modify.
• Setup the Auto-Naming settings for the form.
• Adjust the Specification Settings to control the data available in the grid.
• Add Specification Blocks.
• Add Specification Rows and edit their content.
• Select Catalogue and Template References.
• Set Design Parameters (Automatic Joint Specifications only).
• Validate the content.
• Write the content to the database.
At any point the Working Data may be saved to a file to allow progress to be split over multiple sessions.
For further detailed information on the use of the introduced Structural Specification form please refer to the
AVEVA E3D Design 3.1 User Documentation.
• Auto-Naming Settings
Specification components are automatically named based on the catalogue or template reference name.
Each specifcaiton component should be assigned a unique name in the database. This is aided by the
Configure Auto Naming form prompted via the Settings area of the form.
Catalogue and specification items in ACP follow a strict naming convention which allows for easy management of
specification items. We recommend users follow a similar convention in their specifications, since it makes
identification of components easier, and ensures unique naming.
• Specification Settings
The Specification Settings form, prompted via the Settings area can be used to control which Profile GTYPs,
Trimming PLINEs and Joint Specific Types will be included in the options lists in the specification grid.
The In Use profile Gtypes default to the Preferred Profiles if these have been defined for the project, and otherwise
to the AVEVA Steel Catalogue profiles.
• Spec Blocks
The Spec Blocks section of the form is used to add, delete or reorder blocks. Each block has a Sequence
Number, Type, and a Description. A Spec Block represents a group of Spec Components. The criteria for
grouping Spec Components depends on the specification type.
Having both catalogue and template references set for the same Spec Component is not supported.
On selecting a Catalogue or Template reference, the View button can be used to view an image of the joint or
fitting detail. Within the image, design parameters are tagged with a pencil symbol. Images must be available in
a resources file. Please refer to the procedure to add images to a resource file in the E3D Design user
documentation. Images are not available for profile specifications.
The Generate Spec Components button within the Reference Data area is available to quickly add many
components to the spec from the current category. The function is slightly different depending on the type
of spec:
Profile Specs: A new Spec Block is created for each STCA element under the selected category. If the current
category is an STCA element, then one new block is created. A new spec component is created for each SPRF
element found in the category. The components will have the Generic Type, Name and Catalogue Reference
columns set from the STSE data. The new Spec Blocks will have their description set from the STCA
description.
Joint and Fitting Specs: A new Spec Component is created for each catalogue or template element
(JOIN/TMPL for Joint Specs; SFIT/TMPL for Fitting Specs) under the selected category. These components will
be added to the current spec block. If adding catalogue elements, the function attempts to fill the Owner
Type and Attached Type columns by looking at the catalogue item datasets.
The Generate Spec Components function is not available for Auto-Joint Specs.
Auto-Joint Specs: The Reference Data panel works differently for Auto-Joint specs. It is assumed that a
manual joint specification has already been defined, so catalogue and template elements may be chosen
from a specification.
• Specification Components
Specification Components (SPCOs) can be created, edited, validated and written to the database using the
Spec Block Rows section of the form.
The grid shows an organised view of the specification. Each row represents a single SPCO element, and each
column represents the answers to Selector questions, or data for each SPCO. The visible columns are
different for each specification type, and they are setup to comply with the requirements for the forms in
E3D Design Model.
The design parameters option is only available for Automatic Joint Specifications.
The Auto Fill button can be used to automatically fill empty cells in the currently displayed block as
a starting point (noting that it cannot predict the design intent).
If a Catalogue or Template reference has been selected in the Reference Data section of the form, these will
be used to populate empty Catalogue and Template cells. Auto naming will be informed from these
selections.
Design Parameters are not auto filled as it is anticipated that defaults will be available.
The Validate button can be used to validate cells in the currently displayed block with results indicated in
the grid and messages panel.
The Write button can be used to write the content of the form to a specification in the database.
This triggers a validation of all blocks with the process aborted if any validation errors are reported.
When writing to an existing specification, all the existing SPCOMs will first be moved to a limbo specification, so
that a new selector hierarchy can be generated. The SPCOMs will then be moved into their appropriate selectors
provided they still have the same catalogue and template references. Any SPCOMs no longer part of the
specification will remain in the limbo specification thus preserving their references for existing design data.
When modifying an existing specification, existing selectors are deleted and replaced with a new selector tree with
the appropriate questions and answers. The order of the Spec blocks may not be the same following this process.
• Template Properties
The Define Template Properties form has been upgraded with checks introduced to avoid the creation of
invalid data. The user interface has been enhanced to include two grid tabs displaying both the Template
Properties and any Common Properties associated with the DDRFARRAY attribute.
The DDRFA attribute can be modified using the introduced Add Current DDSE/DDAR and Remove Selected
buttons.
• Template Parameters
The Template Parameters form has been modified to use a grid and updated to improve user feedback for
Template Members. Further, Matref has been added as an allowable attribute to be set by rules.
An additional Execute Rule button allows the rules to be run on the template.
• Attribute Rules
The Attribute Rule form has been modified to use a grid and the form is non-blocking.
An Add to Expression button has been included in the form to add the currently selected DKEY into the
expression string along with the required additional syntax.
Reference Types have been added to the grid to cater for the additional Matref attribute, which should be
set as a Reference Type in the property definitions form.
A Copy Section Fitting feature has been added to the Fitting button
within the Create group of the SECTION tab in the Structures
application.
The enhanced copy command allows the copying of fittings at a given distance within the same owning
section (and alignment) without the need to utilise the Section Fitting form. The user may also make use of
additional options via the copy command context menu (Angle, Multiple or Repeat).
As part of this development the introduced Basepoint option prompts the user to specify a basepoint on
the section to define the location of the first Fitting. Upon selection of the basepoint, the user is then
redirected back to the number and distance prompt.
The minimum fillet radius for curved handrails is 500mm. Below this value the handrails will ignore the
curve of the panel.
The Permissible Piping Specification Manager form has been added to allow the administrator to select the
(Piping, Insulation and Tracing) specifications that will be present in the Model module.
For further detailed information on Hull Routing please refer to the AVEVA E3D Design 3.1 User Documentation.
• Added error if the bore of the last component does not match the tail bore. This mirrors standard
DATACON checks but now gives the user the warning sooner in the process.
This is set via the Sheet Layout Options form with the following options:
• Component: Plots dotted piping components.
• Nozzle: Plots dotted nozzles.
• All: Plots dotted piping components and nozzles.
• Off: Switches dotted continuation symbols plotting off.
Once pressed, the button will reload the specifications for both the pipe editor and component editor forms.
This prevents the need for a user to exit/restart the application in order to obtain the latest specification
changes.
The Reload Specifications feature is also available from the Piping area accessed via the PROJECT menu.
The second step assumes the work file folder referenced by environment variable aveva_design_work is set the
same for both steps. If not, copy the file generated in Step 1 to the appropriate work file folder for Step 2.
• Step 2 (for E3D Design 3.1.3): Add Changes to MDS Detail Texts to local Application Defaults
This step must be run using the installed update of E3D Design, after installing the accompanying updated
sample projects.
Ensure the local project is up to date on MDS Application Defaults updates, in particular Update 87 for Detail
Text Application Defaults.
Enter the local project in Paragon, display a Command Line then type:
show !!mdsDetailTextAdmin
Note that this setting can be used in conjunction with the Support Editor View button which sets the view directions
to be opposite. The Supports Drawing application will automatically change a stored frame direction of West, South
or Down to East, North or up respectively. This can be overridden using the View button to force the main view to
be West, South or Down.
Using the form, users can copy the pre-existing data by picking
a source database to copy and a destination.
Please note that the copy operation is a significant operation
and can take time to complete.
On completion of the copy operation, and subsequent to saving, the data may
be accessed for modification. It is important when modifying user data that the
required source database is selected via the options list in the Supports tab.
Any modification made to user-defined data will be made in the selected
database.
The same options list is available in Model module Supports application for the
selection of a multiple selectable (MDU) user defined database where they exist
in the MDB.
The values obtained from the attribute query are contextual based upon where in the element hierarchy they are
queried. The values are also mutually exclusive. i.e. if part of a support weight is reported against the branch then
it will not also be reported when queried at support level.
When queried from the Support level the identified attributes report on the weight of support components
with associated welded component weights removed from the totals.
• Weight of Pipe and Support components connected to the pipe (SUWNSA, SUWGSA)
When queried from a Pipe or Branch these attributes report on the weight (net and gross respectively) of
branch component items and any support components that are connected to the Pipe (welded and bolted)
When queried from the Support level these attributes report on the weight of support components with all
items that are connected to the pipe being removed from the totals.
Items are considered for reporting in this manner when a new PWEI attribute in the Supports application
defaults is set to TRUE. Items set as FALSE will not be considered in either of the above cases.
• Weight of Pipe and Support components excluding support Steelwork and Hanger components
(SUWNAL, SUWGAL)
When queried from a Pipe or Branch these attributes report on the weight (net and gross respectively) of
branch component items and all Support components not inclusive of support Steelwork or Hanger
components.
When queried from the Support level these attributes report on the weight of support Steelwork and Hanger
components only.
• Administration: Catalogue
In order to facilitate the weight reporting changes, the Supports application defaults in the Paragon module
are required to be updated via the check application defaults tool.
If a user does not wish to modify the existing output (based on NWEI) for supports then no changes are required
to be made for successful drawing output.
This Position Tray Bend (or appropriate component type) tab is prompted and is accompanied by aid
graphics to show the current position of the support.
To adjust the positioning the user first selects which Ppoint the support will be relative to and then selects
either the distance or angle option. The aid graphics adjust to show the selected settings. If the results of
any position change are not acceptable, Reset can be used to revert to the previously saved position.
Note that for cable tray crosses, and for the P3 of cable tray tees, the angle option is not available.
Supports on risers are restricted to the tangent lengths. Positioning on the curve is not available.
Configurations CT01, CT02 and CT04 are restricted to the horizontal end only.
Where trays run on their sides, framework CT03 can be used on the appropriate ends of a component.
The application currently is limited in its ability to handle stacked trays in the same support. Positioning
around the tray is limited by the combination of supported components.
In the Support Editor a user is able to click on Cycle End Position to move
the support through the available ppoints.
Note that ppoints not consistent with the current configuration will be skipped e.g. a vertical end for CT03 with a
tee on its side.
Supports - Locked Ancillary
This release allows a user to modify a frame support if it contains a locked ancillary.
If the ancillary is locked by the Lock attribute or has its Position attribute locked by Data Access Control, then
the support may be modified but only certain changes will be allowed. This enhancement facilitates
customer processes such as the use of Status Control and DAC to lock ancillaries in response to design
approval whilst allowing scope for acceptable modification thereafter.
• A user may not make changes that affect the whole support, such as changing the position, flipping or
mirroring.
• The user may not make changes that affect the locked ancillary directly, such as changing the datum
ancillary, reselecting the ancillary, adding or modifying packing pieces or compensation plates, or
changing reinforcement pad details.
Configurations FT05 and CT03 do not support changes when the ancillary is locked as the application requires write
access to the whole support in these cases.
A user may make changes to the support that do not impact the locked ancillary, such as adding a pipe, tray
or duct, extending sections, adding bracing or reselecting structural members.
Note that a user is not able to adjust the locked ancillary if such would be needed as a result of structural changes,
and this will be detected by the support health check.
The application is available for the evaluation of currently available features and is not for production use.
The application is not designed to be used in conjunction with data created by the existing HVAC
application. Additional functionality will be added in subsequent releases for further evaluation ahead of
being made available for production.
Please refer to the AVEVA™ E3D Design HVAC User Documentation for further information on features
introduced for evaluation.
The HVAC Component Editor form has been extended to introduce the ability to create branch connectors
for flat oval ducting. The formed branch connector, on a pick in the 3D View, is created below the owning
straight as a sub-component of the branch.
The release of AVEVA E3D Design 3.1.3 continues to include a preview of a forthcoming HVAC application.
In addition, a selection of flat oval branch connectors are also enabled in addition to the existing rectangular
and circular custom branch connectors.
These new components enable a user to model and edit HVAC components for a given specification. These
components can also be reselected, positioned, and oriented using the HVAC Component Editor form.
• Position Through Sub-components
The forthcoming HVAC application enables the designer to explicitly Position Through the selected HVAC
element along the arrive-leave axis.
This capability has been extended at this release to support all Branch Connectors and subcomponents.
Subcomponents will always be positioned through the arrive position of a HVAC component.
• Insulation on Sub-components
The new HVAC application enables the designer to apply Insulation on a current HVAC element or on a
Range of elements. This has been extended to include branch connectors, access panels and all other
subcomponents. The insulation settings are applied in the same way as to the major inline components.
The release of AVEVA E3D Design 3.1.2 includes a preview of a forthcoming HVAC application.
The application is available for the evaluation of currently available features and is not for production use.
The application is not designed to be used in conjunction with data created by the existing HVAC
Please refer to the AVEVA™ E3D Design HVAC User Documentation for further information on features
introduced for evaluation.
• Initialisation
The evaluation HVAC application requires the administrator of the project to make the application visible to
users by setting a variable in the evars.init file.
The above syntax allows a user to enable the new application via the Project tab, Options menu, Discipline
area on acceptance of an End-User License Agreement.
The NEW HVAC - EVAL ONLY application is presented in the application options list for selection. On
selection, the NEW HVAC - EVAL ONLY tab and features therein are presented.
A key advantage of sub-components is that, through the child-owner relationship, the sub-component moves
with the owning element.
If a sub-component is moved along the HVAC (straight) it will be automatically owned by the straight it sits on –
no user input is required regarding the hierarchy.
Creating a branch connector automatically creates a connected branch of the correct size shape and specification.
Please note that not all sub-components are available in this first evaluation release and sub-components can only
be created on straights in the evaluation release.
Not all custom inline components are available in the first evaluation release.
The Joints form prompted by the Joints button in the Tools group allows a user to manage and modify the
joints on custom components
HVAC Components with non-editable geometry have fixed joints set in the catalogue and will not be modifiable
using this form.
• Gaps
The Gap form prompted by the Gap button in the Tools group allows a user to identify any implied tube or
gaps between HVAC components in the 3D view.
A user can remove / fill gaps with straights either with the flow of the branch or against it.
Graphical aids can be used to show the gaps and dimensions.
Only basic routing capability is available in the evaluation release and will be extended in future releases.
• Catalogue / Paragon
The new HVAC application utilises a new catalogue which includes new HVAC Specifications. These are
defined and function in a similar manner to Piping Specifications; allowing customers to restrict the
components available to designers.
A specification called ‘Custom’ is also supplied which is parameter driven and allows modification of shape and size
in a similar way to how the existing HVAC Application works.

Auto Naming can be turned on and off via the Admin tab, Configure group, Naming button.
A supplied Auto naming rule is defined which will be used if a user has not defined an Auto naming rule.
Auto naming rules can be defined via Admin tab > Configure > Naming > Naming Settings > Define Naming
Rules.
A UPANEL is owned by a ZONE which can have a link to a Space that has a reference to a Design Intent
(Rules). This could be any type of Design Intent (Rules) not only scantling. The Reference to Rule (Rlsref
Attribute) has been added to the Space (SPMSPC) element.
A new option Between Points (in Stiffener) has been introduced to the Create group in the Hull Design
application.
Note that the Stiffener definition type will be By Ends when reviewed in the Properties Grid.
Hull Design - Transfer Hull Model (UPANEL) to AVEVA Marine 12.1.SP5 as HPANEL
Functionally has been developed to create Scheme file from UPANEL and export via the Model Transfer form
to be able to import into AVEVA Marine 12.1.SP5 as HPANEL via Scheme Import.
Model Transfer form can be accessed via the Hull Design tab and Export group:
Space Management – Move & Mirror functions to Copy or Clone Surfaces, Curves and Points
This release introduces an advanced modelling function to Copy or Clone by Move or Mirror for Common
Reference Model objects: Surfaces, Curves and Points.
The functionality can be found under Common Reference Model tab in the Advanced Modelling group. The
Move and Mirror menus contain options to Copy or Clone. Clone will allow a user to create a clone of an
element (Surfaces, Curves and Points), which will establish a link between the original element and the
cloned version. They will share the same geometry definition so that any modification to shape of an element
will be applied to cloned versions. Copy will allow the user to create a copy without a link between the
original element and copied element resulting in each element having their own geometry definition. The
Move function can create a Copy or Clone version of an element by translating it along the axis of creation.
The Mirror function can create Copy or Clone version of an element and can mirror around any plane defined
at X,Y, Z axis with given coordinate or a user can define a mirror plane between two points by using Define
Between.
Space Management - Curve Modelling enhancement to Insert Segment between Two Segments
An Insert Segment function has been developed to allow a user to insert a Segment between two segments
in addition to the ability to insert segment to first or last segment of a curve to extend the curve.

Administration
This release introduces Model Visual Layers which are similar in behaviour to the Visual Layers used by
annotation on drawings but affect the colour, line-type and visibility of the View model geometry created by
Update Design.
Model Visual Layers are library elements stored under a LIBY > VLYSET, or a REGI > LIBY > VLYSET, but not
under a drawing. They are referenced directly by Representation Styles. A Representation Style, rather than
specifying a colour and line-type, can optionally specify a library Model Visual Layer instead. This Model
Visual Layer is then associated with any View model geometry that uses that Representation Style. View
model geometry can only be linked with a Model Visual Layer via its Representation Style, so use of Model
Visual Layers is dependent on the administrator setting up the Model Visual Layers library and
Representation Styles that reference them.
Once an update design produces View model geometry with associated Model Visual Layers, then the user
can modify the colour, line-type, and visibility of a Model Visual Layer locally under a drawing (this does not
affect the library version).
For further detailed information please refer to the AVEVA E3D Design 3.1 Draw User Documentation (Basic
Operations : Create and Modify Visual Layers).
Please note that like Visual Styles, modifying a library Model Visual Layer will immediately affect any existing
drawings that reference it. If this is not the intention, then modify a new copy instead and reference it from a
Representation Style.
User: Visual Layers Form - new Model Layers Tab for modification/creation
The Visual Layers form allows existing Model Visual Layer properties to be modified locally for a Sheet (by
making a local copy of the library Model Visual Layer).

Product Release Latest Update
Any existing Model Visual Layers associated with View model geometry under the sheet can have the
properties modified via the form. This will affect any model geometry that references the Model Layers
immediately without any need for an Update Design.
For an overview of Model Visual Layers please refer to the AVEVA E3D Design 3.1 Draw Administration
Documentation (Model Visual Layers).
Remove local model layer Removes the changes to the selected Model Layer for the current
Sheet, reverting the properties to the original library layer.
Remove all local model layers Removes all changes to Model Layers for the current Sheet,
reverting the properties to those of the original library layers.
Name The Model Layer name is not editable. It will be displayed in bold if
the layer properties have been modified for the current Sheet from
those of the original library layer.
The Model Visual Layer for any given model geometry is provided by its Representation Style. It is not possible to
add a new Model Visual Layer locally since Representation Styles can only reference a Model Visual Layer under a
library.
Making a Model Visual Layer invisible will hide the model geometry that references it, but does not take into
account the VIEW type hidden line functionality provide by Update Design. Thus geometry beneath it that has been
‘hidden lined’ out of the drawing will not become visible.

• View Scale
To define a View Scale the user can select the required scale from the available options list.
The default value is set to Unset which results in the scale being
automatically calculated to the defined frame. If the View Style has
a pre-defined scale, this will be used as a default value. All scales
derived from a View Style have an additional postfix [Style default].
All scale values are Metric and where the View Style pre-defined
scale is in another system, it will be automatically converted.
The View Scale value will define the size of the view frame (if unset it will not affect the view frame).
• View Title
To define a View Title the user can enter text within the available text box. The title cannot have more than
1000 characters but can include symbols, numbers and spaces. The View Title can be defined as intelligent
or general text under a View. The View Title can subsequently be modified via the Properties Grid where the
View is selected.

Derived p-points can only be used in the context of a Draw View; specifically, derived p-points are currently
available in the context of Location Defined Views where models are drawn with symbolic representation.
Derived p-points have a position and up to two directions, this facilitates the placement and orientation of a
label in relation to the model, for example, when using Autolabels.
Derived p-points have been implemented for some hull models where they are drawn with symbolic representation.
In symbolic representation, the set of derived p-points is dependent on the projection type.
