Product Release Latest Update
This hot fix updates the E3D Design 3.1.6.0 release which includes the following functional enhancements:

Advanced Work Packages

Further to the introduction of the Work Packs capability in the previous release, this release introduces
several enhancements:

• Work Pack Explorer

A new hierarchy Explorer has been introduced that displays Work Pack
data in a convenient form. Work Pack data is organized by Work Area or
by Work Pack Type.

Users can access additional functionality on Work Pack nodes by

using the right mouse button menu. The ability to add and remove
items from the Drawlist, highlight items in the Drawlist and modify
the selected work pack are provided.

Product Release Latest Update
• Packs for Model item
The Packs tool can be used to identify which work packs (if any)
modelled items are members of.

The prompted Work Packs for Model Item form displays all the
Work Packs that contain the current element or one of its
ancestors.
For example, a piping component itself may be in a Work Pack, it
may be part of a spool that is in a pack, and its pipe may be in
multiple packs.

The form has two grids:

• The Packs grid lists the Work Packs for the model item; it lists
the pack item, pack name, pack type and work area.

• The Pack Items grid lists the pack items for the selected pack;
it lists the pack item name and its element type

• Work Pack Status

The Status tool can be used to show the status of Work Packs.

d53310 24-Oct-22 © Copyright 2022 AVEVA Solutions Limited Page 7 of 126

Product Release Latest Update

Available status definitions are presented on clicking in the Status

Definition option.

The Work Packs list will reload for the selected Status Definition.

 If no Status Definitions are defined with WKPACK in their Controlled

Element List, then the form will not be shown.

 For checks to function, the Status Definition must include in its

Controlled Element List both WKPACK and the types for work pack
items, e.g. PIPE, EQUI, etc.

The first grid lists Work Packs; it lists their check status indicator, pack name, pack type and work area. The
check status indicator shows either Item status consistent with work pack status, or Item status not
consistent with work pack status.

The second grid lists the pack status, followed by each pack item status data for the selected pack; it lists
their check status indicator, pack item name, element type, status numerical value and description.

d53310 24-Oct-22 © Copyright 2022 AVEVA Solutions Limited Page 8 of 126

Product Release Latest Update

If a pack item has a status value not assigned or at a lower numerical value than the pack status value, it will
be indicated as inconsistent. If a pack item type is not included in the status definition it will be ignored for
this check.

 For further detailed information on the creation, modification and use of Work Packs please refer to the AVEVA
E3D Design 3.1 User Documentation.

Laser Quality Setting with Editor (E3D Design 3.1.6.1)

An option has been added to the Project options area of the product to control the quality of laser data when
using the Editor. The Reduce laser quality option is available via the View > Configuration > Model Editor

Weld Management
This release introduces welds and weld management to the Structures application. Welds (STWELD) can now
be created on structural plates and joints, defining the weld path, and storing the weld detail information.
As a prerequisite, weld details are defined by a Weld Detail (WDET) element in the catalogue. Here the
properties of the weld such as type, throat thickness, bevel, etc. can be defined. The Weld Details can then
be referenced by catalogue or template joints, either explicitly or by using the Rules Engine.
When welds are created in Model the weld details are copied to the structural model. These details can then
later be used within Draw to create weld symbols.
Welds can be created in Design both as part of a section joint or in relation to a Plate (Plates can be welded
together or to supporting beams). Further detail on these two workflows is explained below.

 The visibility of Welds in the 3D model is an indicative representation that does not adapt to the type or size of
weld, or end preparation.

 If creating a template welded joint, the weld details can also be defined in the properties of the template rather
than needing to refer to a WDET in the catalogue.

• Welds in Joints
The example welded joints below have been included in the APS project. Many of these welds make use of
the Rule Engine to determine which weld detail should be selected for the given structural context.

The weld position, path and detail are defined as part of the catalogue or template joint definition. Weld
path creation is aided via a tool available in the Model View form that allows the weld path to copy the

Product Release Latest Update
profile of a defined owning section if required. Other weld paths can also be defined manually in the Model
View form.

As seen in the defintion of the weld on the Model View form, the weld detail can be defined either explicitly
or with a rule. Creating a rule using the Rule Engine allows the weld details to vary for different attributes
of the same joint. Different rules can be written for each of the welds within the joint. Here is an example
where the weld size between the beam and wingplate changes depending on the thickness of the beam web:

Product Release Latest Update
 For further detailed information on the definition of Catalogue Structural Joints with Weld detail please refer to
the AVEVA Catalogue and Specifications User Guide (Structures : Joint Welds and Structures : Joint Welds).
Further, please see AVEVA E3D Design user documentation (General : Design Templates : Create Design
Template : Create Welds) for information on the definition of Template Structural Joints.

In E3D Design the welds are created when a joint specification with
included welds is selected (via the Include Welds Geometry checkbox on
the Create and Modify Joint forms). They are created as STWELD
elements and copy the catalogue weld detail definition properties.

The connection and associated Weld can be checked and modified using
the Connection Review form mentioned in the section below.

 Welded joints can be used in Automatic-Joint Specifications to provide a

quick and easy way of adding complete joints to the model.

• Welds on Plates
Welds on plates are much the same as for joints in that they are STWELD elements with similar properties.
Further, they can use the information from Structural Connection (STCONN) elements used in Bounded
Plates to reference the edge that that they should be located on in response to model changes. Welds can
be created between plates or between a plate and a section.

The creation of welds on Plates is controlled by a new section on the Plates ribbon. There are three primary
methods of creating welds: Automatic, Create and Update. The weld details can be set either explicitly or via
Rule Manger rules.

d53310 24-Oct-22 © Copyright 2022 AVEVA Solutions Limited Page 12 of 126

Product Release Latest Update

With the Automatic option, welds are automatically created when:

• Creating Bounded Plates (see right). Each weld corresponds
to a bounding or notching element.
• Splitting plates.
• Extending a plate edge.

The manual Create option allows welds to be created from a selection of sections and plate:

• Plate-to-plate connections: Plates within the user selection

where edges are in very close proximity to each other
(within the Maxium Tolerance value set in the Stuctural
Options) have welds created in the gap between them.

• Plate-to-beam connections: Primary beams within the user

selection where an edge of a plate abuts. Secondary beams
within the user selection have one or two welds created
between the intersecting edges depending on the
connection context.

The Update function will evaluate, update, and

delete welds automatically for the selected
elements. These may be necessitated for
scenarios such as the deletion of supporting
sections, modification of section specifications,
moving of panels, etc.

The weld details that are assigned to the weld can be either:

• Set explicitly using the chosen item via the Weld Detail options list.

• Set by the Rules Engine using the chosen rule selected via the options list. These rules can be defined
in the catalogue and can assign different weld details depending on the logic chosen, for example,
based on the thickness of the two plates being welded:

d53310 24-Oct-22 © Copyright 2022 AVEVA Solutions Limited Page 13 of 126

Product Release Latest Update

• Weld Symbols in Draw

In the Draw application weld symbols can be added to drawings using, and referencing, the weld details
stored in the model. A weld symbol template can be associated to a Weld Detail when defined in a catalogue
or template. Weld symbols for these types can then be added using the introduced Weld Label button
located via the Tools group on the Auto tab. This feature utilizes the weld type and weld detail information
stored in the model to automatically produce the required weld symbol and values.

 Example weld symbols have been included for all the example weld details included in the APS project. They are
located below TT/DRA/PRJ/SYMBOLS/Structural-Weld-Symbols.

Connection Review Form

This release introduces the Connection Review form to

aid the management of connections. This form ties in
many checks including model validity, bounded plate
connectivity and adherence to Rule Manager rules and
Automatic Joint Specifications.

The form is prompted on clicking the Connection

Review button accessed via the Sections or Plates tab
and the respective Connection or Tools groups.

The form is split into two with the top section used for
navigation and the bottom section used to verify checks
and make corrections.

The tabs at the top of the form allow a user to switch

between the three primary modes of navigation:

Model: displays the selected elements grouped by

category. For example, GENSEC elements are grouped
by catalogue reference.

Validation: displays the selected elements grouped by

validation status. Various checks are carried out on
structural elements to ensure their validity. Elements
which return validation warnings or failures are
highlighted. The tab heading summarises the overall
validation status of all the selected elements together
with the number of elements that return warnings or
failures.

Rules: displays the selected elements grouped by rule

review status. Rules are defined for catalogue and
template elements using the Rule Manager
functionality. Any elements which return rule review
warnings or failures are highlighted. The tab heading
summarises the rule review status together with the
number of elements that return warnings or failures.

Product Release Latest Update
The bottom section of the form has the following
checking and modification functionality:

• Built-in checks to verify integrity of selected

elements.

• The Properties grid can be used to make

corrections where required. This can include
the modification of multiple elements at once.

• The Rules grid supports the Rule Manager to

review selected elements against the original
design intent. Its functionality includes:
o Identification of which attributes and
properties of an element have been set by
the Rule Manager.
o Checking that any rule-derived properties
still follow the original design intent.
o Option to reset attributes to the original
rule-derived value if they are different.
o Performing manual adjustments to any
values.
o Acceptance of variations from the design
intent and prevent the system from
checking further.
o Navigation to the original rule to
interrogate the logic.

The form also links to other connection validation

tools such as the Auto-Joint State form and the
Bounded Plate Health Check.

End Datums in Automatic Joint Selection

The automatic joint selection functionality has been

extended to include ENDATU (End Datum) elements.
This allows for the automatic creation of baseplates.

A new ABAS purpose can be applied to specifications

that allows for the automatic joint specifications to be
created for ENDATUs.

The Automatic Joint Specification form has also been

updated so that specifications with the ABAS purpose
only consider ‘owning’ properties and not ‘attached’
as these are not valid for a baseplate.

Copy FITTINGS to multiple GENSECs

An enhancement has been made to allow FITTINGs to

be copied across to different owning GENSECs. This
functionality is prompted on clicking the Fitting > Copy
button, accessed via the Sections tab, Create group. A
new option has been added to the context editor that
allow multiple FITTINGs to be copied to multiple
GENSECs.

It should be noted that this will copy the FITTINGs to

the same position on the other GENSECs, i.e. using the
same PLINE and ZDIST values.

Definition of Reference Points when Creating Panel Negatives

The workflow for positioning negatives in a panel has been enhanced at this release. Accessed via the Create
> Negative button within the Plates tab, the context editor has been updated to include a new option to
allow the user to set a reference point from which the negative can positioned.

User Defined Bores

This release introduces the ability to customise supports with user definable piping bores.
Once a new bore has been defined, existing supports can be configured to work with the new bore through
tools provided in the Paragon module. The tools allow for bulk modification of supports and enable quick
administration of these new sizes.
The following support types can be extended with user defined bores:
• Ancillaries
• Frameworks
• Trunnions
• Hangers

 Important note: All items of the types listed above from either the standard support catalogue or any user defined
catalogue databases can be used with this feature, however there may be some additional administrative steps
required for use in design. For example, a new hanger size will potentially require additional catalogue work to
ensure that hanger components exist at the new sizes. The hanger templates may also need to be updated within
design because of this as well. Please refer to supports administration guides for more information about relevant
customisation requirements.

• Update Requirements & Pre-Requisites of use

To use this new feature, the latest version of the ACP project must be used. In addition, the supports
application defaults in paragon need to be updated.
The following databases should be part of the MDB when running the update tools
• MDS/CATA
• MDU/CATA
• MDS/MDSAPPDEFAULTS

Support bore configuration

Supports can be configured to use user defined bores within the Supports bore configuration tool. This can
be accessed in the Paragon module, within the supports administration toolset:

d53310 24-Oct-22 © Copyright 2022 AVEVA Solutions Limited Page 21 of 126

Product Release Latest Update

When the application is launched, any nominal bore table(s) are collected and available bores are displayed
in the available bores grid. If no Nominal bore table(s) are found, then only system defined bores are
displayed (this can still be useful for extending the capabilities of existing standard support types).

The user selects the bores that they wish to use and then they navigate through the tabs, either by using
or by directly clicking on the tabs:

Once bores have been selected then it is necessary to update the Outer Diameter field within the selected
bores frame. This is required because many supports within the catalogue rely upon this parameter to set
the design geometry.

Product Release Latest Update
Each support type tab has available and selected grid frames. Selected bores are displayed in each tab for
reference and the user uses the arrow buttons to move support types they wish to extend from the
available Ancillaries frame into the selected Ancillaries frame.

 The Ancillaries tab has an option list for MDU database selection. This enables bores to be extended into any
number of pre-existing sets of user defined support databases. Selections are maintained against the selected
databases until the form is applied or cancelled and selections can be checked at any time by switching between
each database selection in the option list.

Once the selections have been made and they are applied, new catalogue data is created for the new bores.

 If the application detects that support data already exists for a given bore, then the creation request will be ignored
for the selected support and the application will continue to service any other outstanding requests.

Once the creation process has been completed then administration activity can begin to prepare the new
sizes for modelling (for example modification of design parameter data). Please be aware that new support
bore sizes may not be active by default and these must be activated with the active standards tools in
Paragon.
The above process can be repeated any number of times with the proviso that any existing size data will be
ignored during the creation process.

Graphical Explorer
This release introduces the Graphical Explorer to E3D Design for model navigation and reference. Supported
by the AVEVA Graphical Change Service, the graphical explorer improves performance when rendering large
models, with model elements loaded from a generated cache using the AVEVA Rendering Framework (ARF).

The Graphical Explorer can be accessed via the Views group in the
View tab.

The Graphical Explorer window displays a read only 3D view that can be populated with elements from a
Drawlist and manipulated (for example, zoom, pan, and rotate) in the same way as any other 3D view. The

Product Release Latest Update
Graphical Explorer functionality is disabled if caches are not available for the project. To create the caches,
the AVEVA Graphical Change Service application must be installed alongside the AVEVA Application Service.
 For further detailed information on the setup and use of the Graphical Explorer please refer to the AVEVA Graphical
Change Service user documentation and release notes.

When the Model application is opened for the first time, the Graphical Explorer displays by default. The
display state is then serialised (located at C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Aveva\AVEVA E3D Design\).

 If the Graphical Explorer window is closed when the application exits, it will not display when the application is
reopened. A baseline cache (cache0) is used to initially populate the 3D view and set the view limits. The baseline
cache can be set up using the AVEVA Graphical Cache Manager installed with the AVEVA Graphical Change Service.

The Graphical Explorer provides context to a design activity in the principal 3D window, allowing a designer
to utilise the Graphical Explorer in a separate window to navigate the model and promote elements to the
principal 3D View (via an introduced right-click PowerWheel option Add to Global Drawlist). To this end,
some functionality is currently not supported for use with the Graphical Explorer window and user interface
options are disabled when the Graphical Explorer is the current view e.g., model modification features.
 For further detailed information on the use of the Graphical Explorer please refer to the AVEVA E3D Design user
documentation.

Cloud hosted Laser Point Cloud

This release introduces the ability to access a cloud hosted Laser Point Cloud via AVEVA Connect.

To support this capability, a new option Create Cloud Point Cloud has been
added to the Access button within the Point Cloud group in the Admin tab to
allow the creation of a cloud-based Point Cloud.

 Please note that a local and cloud hosted Laser Point Cloud cannot be used in the same E3D Design Project (MDB)
and session.

To support cloud hosted laser data, the clash options tab of the Clasher
form has an additional check box Batch cloud clashing in the Point
Cloud options frame.

When using point cloud datasets in the cloud, the option to use batch cloud clashing mode becomes
available. In this mode, instead of clashing elements one at a time against the point cloud data, multiple
elements are sent to AVEVA Point Cloud Manager, and all clashed in one operation. This reduces the time
required for clashing in the cloud.
 By default batch clashing is enabled for cloud datasets. Although but it can be turned off by the user this is not
recommended. Once a clash has been performed using batch clash mode, all subsequent clashes in the session will
be performed in batch mode.

 Please note that where performing a clash operation via command, the Batch cloud clashing is off by default and
must be set using the command LMI BATCH ON.

AVEVA E3D Design 3.1.4.0, Release No. 53159

Rule Manager
The Rule Manager allows Administrators to configure logical rules for a project, which can be executed as
Design elements are created, automatically setting attributes and properties. This system can speed up the
design process, and ensure created elements are compliant with any given standard and design intent.

Currently, the Rule Manager can be used to create rules for Design Properties of Structural Joints, Fittings
and Design Templates. The system is also compatible with the Automatic Joints feature. There is a plan to
introduce more applications for the Rule Manager in the future.

As an example, the following description will demonstrate Rules in the context of the Structures application
and the use of a Wing Plate Joint from the AVEVA Projects ACP Sample Data.

A Structural Designer chooses a Variable Thickness Wing Plate joint to connect an identified Bracing section
with a Column. This joint includes Design Properties for Plate Thickness, Stiffener Thickness and Rathole
Radius, the values for which must be entered before the joint is created.

The values could depend on many factors, such as the standard being used, the size of the connected beams
or the flange thicknesses. Previously, the Designer would need to ascertain these properties before creating
the joint, but now they may be set by Rules.

Within the Modify Joint form, the Use Rule

Value option appears for properties where
Rules have been defined. The Designer
may override the values by setting to False.

The Rules then select values for these properties based on pre-defined logic.

New options are available in the Structures application for Creating and Modifying Rule Sets. The Rule Sets
may be viewed and navigated using the Ruleset Browser, which is available in the Tools group.

Once a Rule Set is created, it can be linked to a catalogue component or template via the Rule Set Reference
(RLSREF) attribute. An option has been added to the Model View form to allow the link to be created.

• Reference Data
The Reference Data section of the form is designed to make it easier to fill in Catalogue and Template
references for Spec Components. The content of this section of the form changes depending on the current
Specification purpose to allow references to different types of element to be set.

 Having both catalogue and template references set for the same Spec Component is not supported.

 On selecting a Catalogue or Template reference, the View button can be used to view an image of the joint or
fitting detail. Within the image, design parameters are tagged with a pencil symbol. Images must be available in
a resources file. Please refer to the procedure to add images to a resource file in the E3D Design user
documentation. Images are not available for profile specifications.

The Generate Spec Components button within the Reference Data area is available to quickly add many
components to the spec from the current category. The function is slightly different depending on the type
of spec:

Profile Specs: A new Spec Block is created for each STCA element under the selected category. If the current
category is an STCA element, then one new block is created. A new spec component is created for each SPRF
element found in the category. The components will have the Generic Type, Name and Catalogue Reference
columns set from the STSE data. The new Spec Blocks will have their description set from the STCA
description.

Joint and Fitting Specs: A new Spec Component is created for each catalogue or template element
(JOIN/TMPL for Joint Specs; SFIT/TMPL for Fitting Specs) under the selected category. These components will
be added to the current spec block. If adding catalogue elements, the function attempts to fill the Owner
Type and Attached Type columns by looking at the catalogue item datasets.

 The Generate Spec Components function is not available for Auto-Joint Specs.

Auto-Joint Specs: The Reference Data panel works differently for Auto-Joint specs. It is assumed that a
manual joint specification has already been defined, so catalogue and template elements may be chosen
from a specification.

• Specification Components
Specification Components (SPCOs) can be created, edited, validated and written to the database using the
Spec Block Rows section of the form.

The grid shows an organised view of the specification. Each row represents a single SPCO element, and each
column represents the answers to Selector questions, or data for each SPCO. The visible columns are
different for each specification type, and they are setup to comply with the requirements for the forms in
E3D Design Model.

 The design parameters option is only available for Automatic Joint Specifications.

The Auto Fill button can be used to automatically fill empty cells in the currently displayed block as
a starting point (noting that it cannot predict the design intent).

If a Catalogue or Template reference has been selected in the Reference Data section of the form, these will

Owner Type and Attached Type may be determined from the current catalogue reference where the
reference has a dataset member with purpose OWNE or ATTA. This feature is not available for templates.

 Design Parameters are not auto filled as it is anticipated that defaults will be available.

The Validate button can be used to validate cells in the currently displayed block with results indicated in
the grid and messages panel.

The Write button can be used to write the content of the form to a specification in the database.
This triggers a validation of all blocks with the process aborted if any validation errors are reported.

 When writing to an existing specification, all the existing SPCOMs will first be moved to a limbo specification, so
that a new selector hierarchy can be generated. The SPCOMs will then be moved into their appropriate selectors
provided they still have the same catalogue and template references. Any SPCOMs no longer part of the
specification will remain in the limbo specification thus preserving their references for existing design data.

 When modifying an existing specification, existing selectors are deleted and replaced with a new selector tree with
the appropriate questions and answers. The order of the Spec blocks may not be the same following this process.

Structures – Panel modification improvements

Panel modification has been enhanced at this release by allowing users to move a panel vertex using
projections of edges on the same panel, and intersections between them. Activating the ‘Extension’ snap via
the object snaps form will allow users to hover above a panel vertex, which will automatically generate two
line-projections corresponding to its adjacent edges, which may be snapped to as the user moves the cursor.

Structures - Ability to extend/trim curved Section to Panel

The extend Section (GENSEC) feature has been enhanced at this release for curved elements. On selecting
the end of the Section to be extended, the context menu has been appended with an option Panel. The
resulting arc Section extends/trims to the closest plane defined by the identified Panel element.

Structural Analysis Interface – Additional “FIXED BUT” Support Type

Further to the current Structural Analysis Interface capability where Supports are recognised to be ‘FIXED’
or ‘PINNED’, the interface has been enhanced to recognise the 'FIXED BUT' syntax. The syntax is parsed from
the .std file on import, stored in AVEVA E3D Design, and exported from AVEVA E3D Design to the .std file.
This includes any spring values applied.

Structures - Graphically extend connected ends of GENSECs

This release introduces an enhancement to the Structures application to allow the connected ends of a
section to be extended or trimmed.

The modification is aided by an interactive grip. A double-arrowed

grip at the connected end of an attached section is prompted on
the toggling of additional grips via the product status bar.
Upon clicking the double-arrowed grip, a user is prompted to
specify the cutback value through input or grip manipulation.

Structures - Copying a Section Fitting to the same GENSEC

A Copy Section Fitting feature has been added to the Fitting button
within the Create group of the SECTION tab in the Structures
application.

The enhanced copy command allows the copying of fittings at a given distance within the same owning
section (and alignment) without the need to utilise the Section Fitting form. The user may also make use of
additional options via the copy command context menu (Angle, Multiple or Repeat).

AVEVA E3D Design 3.1.1.0, Release No. 53008

Structures - Creation of multiple Fittings

This release allows the creation of multiple fittings on the same GENSEC. The create Fitting feature available
in the Create group of the Sections tab has been enhanced at the point of specifying a distance for the
(created) Fitting to include a context editor option Multiple.

The Multiple option allows a user to create multiple Fittings with a

regular interval spacing.

d53310 24-Oct-22 © Copyright 2022 AVEVA Solutions Limited Page 61 of 126

Product Release Latest Update
On selection of the Multiple option, the user is
prompted to specify the number and distance
between consecutive fittings in the form
“4x100mm”, which translates to 4 fittings with
100mm spacing between any two consecutive
fittings.

For example, typing ‘5x100mm creates 5

fittings of the same specification set from the
creation workflow, with 100mm intervals
between two consecutive fittings.

As part of this development the introduced Basepoint option prompts the user to specify a basepoint on
the section to define the location of the first Fitting. Upon selection of the basepoint, the user is then
redirected back to the number and distance prompt.

Structures - GENSEC Extension by Grip Manipulation

This release upgrades the Structures application GENSEC extension function to allow GENSEC elements to
be extended by an ‘extension value’ or an ‘overall value’.

The operation is instigated by the extension grip or Extend

button in the Modify group of the Structures application.
On prompting of the function, the canvas context editor
menu presents the options via the down arrow at the point
of specifying the extension (Overall length).

Structures - Route handrails around Panels with negative fillet radius

Handrails can currently be routed around panels which have a

(positive) fillet radius; producing a curved handrail and
kickplate on creation. This release extends this capability to
panels with a negative fillet radius

 The minimum fillet radius for curved handrails is 500mm. Below this value the handrails will ignore the
curve of the panel.

Supports - Dtext command improvement for Supports

AVEVA provides a library of Multi Discipline Supports (MDS) catalogue content in the AVEVA Catalogue
Project (ACP), that is reissued periodically to accompany product updates.
Much of the MDS out-of-the-box content can be customised in local projects using the Application Defaults,
and where appropriate updates to these are delivered along with product updates, enabling those local
projects to take advantage of new functionality and catalogue content.

d53310 24-Oct-22 © Copyright 2022 AVEVA Solutions Limited Page 68 of 126

Product Release Latest Update
One exception to this has been the content of the MDS Detail Texts. These have not been included in the
Application Defaults, and thus any user modifying them would have had to do so directly in ACP, and then
have to maintain those changes on top of subsequent updates received.
In AVEVA E3D Design 3.1.3 this has been addressed so that the MDS Detail Texts can now be customised in
Application Defaults. Any project wanting to do so can load the appropriate Update number 87 and then
modify the detail text expressions using the Paragon forms.
The purpose of this section is to describe a process for a Catalogue Administrator to capture any changes
they have already made to a copy of ACP MDS Detail Texts, and then run those changes into the local
projects’ Application Defaults.
 The following process is necessary only if a customer has customised the MDS Detail Texts in ACP.

• Step 1: Find Changes to MDS Detail Texts in existing copy of ACP

This first step must be run using E3D Design 3.1.3, before installing the accompanying updated sample
projects.
Enter project ACP in Paragon, display a Command Line then type:
show !!mdsDetailTextAdmin
 This form is not available from the standard user interface.
Click on Find Changes in MDS Detail Texts. The process will run for a few moments and inform in the
messages panel whether it finds any changes compared to the out-of-the-box content. If changes are found
they are recorded in a work file named in the messages panel. There is no need to access the file but it may
contain further information of interest to the project.
Exit the project without saving any changes.

 The second step assumes the work file folder referenced by environment variable aveva_design_work is set the
same for both steps. If not, copy the file generated in Step 1 to the appropriate work file folder for Step 2.

• Step 2 (for E3D Design 3.1.3): Add Changes to MDS Detail Texts to local Application Defaults
This step must be run using the installed update of E3D Design, after installing the accompanying updated
sample projects.

Ensure the local project is up to date on MDS Application Defaults updates, in particular Update 87 for Detail
Text Application Defaults.
Enter the local project in Paragon, display a Command Line then type:
show !!mdsDetailTextAdmin

Product Release Latest Update
If a work file from Step 1 is found this will be shown in the messages panel. Click on Add Changes to MDS
Detail Texts. The process will run for a few moments and inform in the messages panel whether the changes
have been successful.
Save changes and exit the project.
Changes have been applied to the Application Defaults, so this process need not be repeated in this project,
for future versions of ACP installed for E3D Design 3.1.
Repeat this step for all projects running E3D Design 3.1 and requiring these customisations.

Supports - Special Support Frame View Direction

A form has been introduced to the Supports application to enable the setting of the Frame View Direction
on Special Supports for use in drawing production.
Special Support frames created in the Supports application have a frame direction set automatically and this
is used to drive the main view direction in automated drawing production. In order to provide more specific
control of this, and to be able to set a view direction on structures added manually to Special Supports, a
new form can be accessed from the Additional Tools menu of the Supports application.

The Special Frame Direction form is prompted.

 Note that this setting can be used in conjunction with the Support Editor View button which sets the view directions
to be opposite. The Supports Drawing application will automatically change a stored frame direction of West, South
or Down to East, North or up respectively. This can be overridden using the View button to force the main view to
be West, South or Down.

AVEVA E3D Design 3.1.2.0, Release No. 52956

Supports - Multiple Catalogue

The Supports application has been enhanced in regard to the way that user-defined supports can be stored,
created and viewed in AVEVA E3D Design. It is now possible to create and maintain many copies of differing
user-defined support catalogues and, in addition, such supports can be created and viewed in a single design
session.
Functionality has been supplied in the AVEVA Catalogue Paragon module to create and modify copies of
existing (MDU) user-defined support data. Further, tools have been provided in the Model module to create
and modify supports using data from different (MDU) user-defined supports catalogue libraries.

d53310 24-Oct-22 © Copyright 2022 AVEVA Solutions Limited Page 72 of 126

Product Release Latest Update
The introduced feature greatly increases the flexibility of the Supports application for customers who wish
to outsource support catalogue development to multiple third parties or those who might wish to maintain
support catalogue data with revision/as-built history.

• Catalogue & Model

Pre-requisites
In order to facilitate the multiple database changes, the Supports application defaults in the Paragon module
are required to be updated via the check application defaults tool.
Copy
An MDU Catalogue Copy tool has been introduced in the Paragon module to allow users to create copies of
existing (MDU) user-defined supports catalogue data.

Using the form, users can copy the pre-existing data by picking
a source database to copy and a destination.
 Please note that the copy operation is a significant operation
and can take time to complete.

On completion of the copy operation, and subsequent to saving, the data may
be accessed for modification. It is important when modifying user data that the
required source database is selected via the options list in the Supports tab.
Any modification made to user-defined data will be made in the selected
database.
The same options list is available in Model module Supports application for the
selection of a multiple selectable (MDU) user defined database where they exist
in the MDB.

• Important Database Considerations

Copies of (MDU) user-defined supports databases are not managed by a central library specification from
the supplied ACP project. All specification data is copied to the new database. It is therefore crucial that any
manipulation of the data (copy, reconfiguration etc.) maintains the database references that are created
during the creation of each database. If this does not occur, existing model data may lose the required
references to the catalogue rendering them unusable.

Product Release Latest Update
Supports - Weight Calculations
The Supports application has been enhanced in the way that users can interact with how weight is displayed
in both reporting and draw deliverables.
A number of new attributes have been made available to enable users to extract different weight condition
data for different scenarios.

 The values obtained from the attribute query are contextual based upon where in the element hierarchy they are
queried. The values are also mutually exclusive. i.e. if part of a support weight is reported against the branch then
it will not also be reported when queried at support level.

• Weight of Pipe and all welded Support elements (SUWNST, SUWGST)

When queried from a Pipe or Branch these attributes report on the weight (net and gross respectively) of
branch component items and any welded Support components i.e. those that have been set as SHOP = TRUE.

When queried from the Support level the identified attributes report on the weight of support components
with associated welded component weights removed from the totals.

• Weight of Pipe and Support components connected to the pipe (SUWNSA, SUWGSA)
When queried from a Pipe or Branch these attributes report on the weight (net and gross respectively) of
branch component items and any support components that are connected to the Pipe (welded and bolted)

When queried from the Support level these attributes report on the weight of support components with all
items that are connected to the pipe being removed from the totals.

Product Release Latest Update

Items are considered for reporting in this manner when a new PWEI attribute in the Supports application
defaults is set to TRUE. Items set as FALSE will not be considered in either of the above cases.

• Weight of Pipe and Support components excluding support Steelwork and Hanger components
(SUWNAL, SUWGAL)
When queried from a Pipe or Branch these attributes report on the weight (net and gross respectively) of
branch component items and all Support components not inclusive of support Steelwork or Hanger
components.

When queried from the Support level these attributes report on the weight of support Steelwork and Hanger
components only.

• Administration: Catalogue
In order to facilitate the weight reporting changes, the Supports application defaults in the Paragon module
are required to be updated via the check application defaults tool.

After the update is complete users have access to a

new pipe weight toggle that will enable a user to
control whether shop false items can be included in
the pipe weight queries SUWNSA and SUWGSA.

• Administration: Draw
It is now possible to vary the total weight output on a supports drawing based upon the weight condition
options mentioned previously.
In order to facilitate this, Draw administrators are required to make changes to the MDSABATITLEBLOCK
sheet task in the ABA administration tools for supports. The administrator is subsequently able to pick the
desired weight output for each of the drawing templates.

 If a user does not wish to modify the existing output (based on NWEI) for supports then no changes are required
to be made for successful drawing output.

Supports - Cable Tray Components (Cable System Application)

This release introduces the ability to create supports on cable tray bends, tees, crosses, risers and reducers.
 For further detailed information on the use of the introduced feature to the Supports application please refer to
the AVEVA E3D Design 3.1 Supports User Documentation.

• Dependency on Cable Way Path Data

The Supports application is dependent on the correct definition of the cable way path data and the
consistency of the dressed material. The inside radius is used to determine the bend start and end points for
CTBEND and CTTEE, and hence if the support lies on a tangent straight or on the curve.

• Dependency on Ancillary Properties

Setting the design parameter for tray width on the datum ancillary depends on a data set property being
available, with DKEY value of TWTH or OWID, and PPRO value using a single design parameter e.g. ( ATTRIB
DESP[8 ] ).

The support is created initially at the component arrive point.

The Support Editor has a new button Position Around Tray…
(instead of the Distance controls).

This Position Tray Bend (or appropriate component type) tab is prompted and is accompanied by aid
graphics to show the current position of the support.
To adjust the positioning the user first selects which Ppoint the support will be relative to and then selects
either the distance or angle option. The aid graphics adjust to show the selected settings. If the results of
any position change are not acceptable, Reset can be used to revert to the previously saved position.

 Note that for cable tray crosses, and for the P3 of cable tray tees, the angle option is not available.

 Supports on risers are restricted to the tangent lengths. Positioning on the curve is not available.
Configurations CT01, CT02 and CT04 are restricted to the horizontal end only.

 Where trays run on their sides, framework CT03 can be used on the appropriate ends of a component.

 The application currently is limited in its ability to handle stacked trays in the same support. Positioning
around the tray is limited by the combination of supported components.

 Note that ppoints not consistent with the current configuration will be skipped e.g. a vertical end for CT03 with a
tee on its side.
Supports - Locked Ancillary
This release allows a user to modify a frame support if it contains a locked ancillary.
If the ancillary is locked by the Lock attribute or has its Position attribute locked by Data Access Control, then
the support may be modified but only certain changes will be allowed. This enhancement facilitates
customer processes such as the use of Status Control and DAC to lock ancillaries in response to design
approval whilst allowing scope for acceptable modification thereafter.

• A user may not make changes that affect the whole support, such as changing the position, flipping or
mirroring.
• The user may not make changes that affect the locked ancillary directly, such as changing the datum
ancillary, reselecting the ancillary, adding or modifying packing pieces or compensation plates, or
changing reinforcement pad details.

 Configurations FT05 and CT03 do not support changes when the ancillary is locked as the application requires write
access to the whole support in these cases.
A user may make changes to the support that do not impact the locked ancillary, such as adding a pipe, tray
or duct, extending sections, adding bracing or reselecting structural members.

 Note that a user is not able to adjust the locked ancillary if such would be needed as a result of structural changes,
and this will be detected by the support health check.

Supports - Ability to add vertical and horizontal Cable Tray/Pipes/HVAC to Support

Special Supports have been modified at this release to support

both horizontal and vertical elements. For example, as
illustrated below, a special support may support both horizontal
and vertical Cable Trays.
The selection of horizontal or vertical element is facilitated by
the Support Editor form.

• Sub-Components

The new HVAC application introduces the concept of sub-

components for HVAC elements such as Branch Connectors
and Access Panels.

Sub-components can be owned by another HVAC component.

Examples of HVAC sub-components include:

Flanges Stiffeners Access Panels Branch Connectors

A key advantage of sub-components is that, through the child-owner relationship, the sub-component moves
with the owning element.

 If a sub-component is moved along the HVAC (straight) it will be automatically owned by the straight it sits on –
no user input is required regarding the hierarchy.
 Creating a branch connector automatically creates a connected branch of the correct size shape and specification.
 Please note that not all sub-components are available in this first evaluation release and sub-components can only
be created on straights in the evaluation release.

Space Management – Move & Mirror functions to Copy or Clone Surfaces, Curves and Points

This release introduces an advanced modelling function to Copy or Clone by Move or Mirror for Common
Reference Model objects: Surfaces, Curves and Points.

The functionality can be found under Common Reference Model tab in the Advanced Modelling group. The
Move and Mirror menus contain options to Copy or Clone. Clone will allow a user to create a clone of an

cloned version. They will share the same geometry definition so that any modification to shape of an element
will be applied to cloned versions. Copy will allow the user to create a copy without a link between the
original element and copied element resulting in each element having their own geometry definition. The
Move function can create a Copy or Clone version of an element by translating it along the axis of creation.
The Mirror function can create Copy or Clone version of an element and can mirror around any plane defined
at X,Y, Z axis with given coordinate or a user can define a mirror plane between two points by using Define

AVEVA E3D Design 3.1.5.0, Release No. 53190

Model Visual Layers

Administration
This release introduces Model Visual Layers which are similar in behaviour to the Visual Layers used by
annotation on drawings but affect the colour, line-type and visibility of the View model geometry created by
Update Design.

Model Visual Layers are library elements stored under a LIBY > VLYSET, or a REGI > LIBY > VLYSET, but not
under a drawing. They are referenced directly by Representation Styles. A Representation Style, rather than
specifying a colour and line-type, can optionally specify a library Model Visual Layer instead. This Model
Visual Layer is then associated with any View model geometry that uses that Representation Style. View
model geometry can only be linked with a Model Visual Layer via its Representation Style, so use of Model
Visual Layers is dependent on the administrator setting up the Model Visual Layers library and
Representation Styles that reference them.

Once an update design produces View model geometry with associated Model Visual Layers, then the user
can modify the colour, line-type, and visibility of a Model Visual Layer locally under a drawing (this does not
affect the library version).

 For further detailed information please refer to the AVEVA E3D Design 3.1 Draw User Documentation (Basic
Operations : Create and Modify Visual Layers).

 Please note that like Visual Styles, modifying a library Model Visual Layer will immediately affect any existing
drawings that reference it. If this is not the intention, then modify a new copy instead and reference it from a
Representation Style.

User: Visual Layers Form - new Model Layers Tab for modification/creation
The Visual Layers form allows existing Model Visual Layer properties to be modified locally for a Sheet (by
making a local copy of the library Model Visual Layer).

d53310 24-Oct-22 © Copyright 2022 AVEVA Solutions Limited Page 102 of 126
Product Release Latest Update

Any existing Model Visual Layers associated with View model geometry under the sheet can have the
properties modified via the form. This will affect any model geometry that references the Model Layers
immediately without any need for an Update Design.

 For an overview of Model Visual Layers please refer to the AVEVA E3D Design 3.1 Draw Administration
Documentation (Model Visual Layers).

Remove local model layer Removes the changes to the selected Model Layer for the current
Sheet, reverting the properties to the original library layer.

Remove all local model layers Removes all changes to Model Layers for the current Sheet,
reverting the properties to those of the original library layers.

Name The Model Layer name is not editable. It will be displayed in bold if
the layer properties have been modified for the current Sheet from
those of the original library layer.
 The Model Visual Layer for any given model geometry is provided by its Representation Style. It is not possible to
add a new Model Visual Layer locally since Representation Styles can only reference a Model Visual Layer under a
library.
 Making a Model Visual Layer invisible will hide the model geometry that references it, but does not take into
account the VIEW type hidden line functionality provide by Update Design. Thus geometry beneath it that has been
‘hidden lined’ out of the drawing will not become visible.

identified element’s position, weight and centre of gravity via an introduced Advanced option in the
Annotate group of the ANNOTATE tab.

 Advanced Labels are generated from introduced special Symbol Templates (SYTM). The default template is set via
the System Defaults and the selection of an Advanced Symbol library where templates are stored.

On selecting the template, the user is prompted to select an element from the Model hierarchy to be used.
The example output is as follows:
• 3D Coordinate Label:

• Weight & Center of Gravity Label:

Draw - Additional Unit format

The use of syntax Ucode Feet USA dist adds a single text quotation mark (‘) as a suffix for foot.

Draw - Export lines to DWG from DRAW

The PATNAM attribute on LINEST elements can now be set to OFF to disable the line drawn between glyphs.
The default value for PATNAM is SOLID.

Draw - Dimension Text Frame

An ability to add a visible text frame to dimensions has been introduced at this release. The functionality is
available for all dimension types. The frame properties can be modified via the Dim Text Frame Sides
Visibility in the Properties Grid for a dimension or, alternatively, for an individual dimension text via the
Vertex Editor.

 By default, the value in the Dim Text Frame Sides Visibility field is populated By Owner.

Draw - Hierarchy selection for Annotation

When annotating (labelling or dimensioning) a View in Draw by picking an intelligent model element (for
example Ppoint, item or owner), a new option Position Hierarchy is now available via the context editor.
This option allows a user to select a higher hierarchical element where appropriate e.g. Equipment.

Draw - Leader line for dimensions

This release allows leader lines to be drawn between an offset (from

default) dimension text and the associated dimension line.

The leader line definition can be modified via the

Properties Grid and includes the underlining of the
dimension text.

Attributes can be set at the Dimension level or at a

vertex (using the Vertex Editor).

Draw - Unhighlight All

A new Unhighlight All Entities menu option has been added to

the Draw Explorer to allow all elements to be unhighlighted.

Draw - Derived P-points

This release introduces derived p-points to the Draw module. Derived p-points are similar in manner to
standard p-points and can be used to locate labels, dimensions and other Draw entities through an object
snap in the Draw Canvas.

 Derived p-points all have a number >1000.

Derived p-points can only be used in the context of a Draw View; specifically, derived p-points are currently
available in the context of Location Defined Views where models are drawn with symbolic representation.
Derived p-points have a position and up to two directions, this facilitates the placement and orientation of a
label in relation to the model, for example, when using Autolabels.

 Derived p-points have been implemented for some hull models where they are drawn with symbolic representation.
In symbolic representation, the set of derived p-points is dependent on the projection type.

 Please refer to AVEVA Everything3D™ 3.1 Draw Administrator Guide for further information on derived p-points
and application to Hull Symbolic Representation.

Draw in Model - Alternative Commands

To support the combination of Model and Draw environments in the Model module, Draw syntax has been
altered. These calls will need to be modified in customisation PML that runs in the Draw module.
• Some care must be taken as the former Draw commands are still valid commands in Model, so these
commands should not be modified in PML that runs in Model, only in PML that runs in (Draw).

• Note that as many of the commands can be shortened it is necessary to look for both the short and
long forms e.g. both “REM” and “REMOVE” (and potentially “REMO” and “REMOV”).

Further to syntax changes made at the AVEVA E3D 3.1.0 release, the current release alters the following:

Draw Command Alternative Command

BY DRABY
DIRECTION DRADIRECTION

Please refer to Section 8.6.1 of the AVEVA E3D™ 3.1 Migration & Interoperability Guide for a complete list of
syntax changes made at the AVEVA E3D 3.1.0 base release.

Draw - Improvements to View Creation

The Expansion View form has been enhanced to allow users to define view limits during View creation.

The Multi-Location View and Location Defined View forms have been enhanced to allow users to define

Draw - Weight & Centre of Gravity Label

This release allows Draw users to efficiently define and add a label to a View with information about an
identified element’s weight and centre of gravity.
Weight and Centre of Gravity Labels are generated from an introduced special Symbol Template (SYTM):
/Adv_Label_WCoG_Templ.
On selecting the template, the user is prompted to select an element from the Model hierarchy to be used.
The example output is as follows:

 If the selected model element is defined as part of an assembly, additional option are presented via the
Context Editor menu to specify whether the Centre of Gravity is derived from the owning UPANEL, ZONE
or ASMBLY element.

Draw - Improvements to Quick Add
The Quick Add tool was introduced at AVEVA E3D 3.1.0 to allow users to quickly and simply add desired types
of model elements to a selected view.

The Quick Add tool has been enhanced at this release with
the following form options:
• Select Dedicated Owner

By default, all elements of selected types are added to the

Drawlist. However, user can choose to only add elements
that belong to specific owner such as SITE or ZONE.

• Within shape

Available where a Model element defines the Volume

criteria, this option dictates that only elements that are
wholly inside the true shape of the (volume) Model
element will be added to the view.

The tool is prompted by a new Align Views button accessed via the Modify group of the DRAW tab.

 Command ALIGNVIEW can also be used to prompt the Align Views tool.

The Draw user is then able to manipulate a View in a horizontal or vertical direction to align the View with
respect to the Model position.

Draw - Laser Highlight Colour

To support the ability to highlight components in the included Draw laser data with differing colours, the
product now stores the highlight colour of laser data in the associated LAVOIN element.

Draw - True-Type Font export to plot files

This release introduces the ability to export True-Type Fonts to plot files
The PLOT command has been enhanced to allow text using True Type Fonts to be exported to standard plot
(.PLT)) files. Further, an option has been added that allows thick lines to be exported as thin single lines which
greatly enhances the produced plot file in some scenarios.

d53310 24-Oct-22 © Copyright 2022 AVEVA Solutions Limited Page 119 of 126
Product Release Latest Update

The command window options to control these behaviours are:

• SINGLELINE. Using this switch all lines are exported as single lines,
no line weights will be emulated in the produced plot file.

• USESIMPLEFONT. This exports all text as single line, and using this
switch also allows TTF text to be exported.
A typical command line to use both the new options would be:
plot shee "c:\temp\plotfile.plt" "SINGLELINE, USESIMPLEFONT”
The options are also available via the Project > Export area.

Draw - Obscured & Hidden lines

The hidden line mechanism in Draw has been enhanced at this release so that it is now possible to explicitly
set the colour of obscured backface and centre lines e.g. for pipework.
The Style Library form accessed from the Admin tab in the Draw module has been updated to allow the
definition of the introduced styles.

 Note that by design ‘Obscured Centreline...’ cannot be enabled unless ‘Centreline Colour and Style’ is
enabled.

Draw - Ability to add Dimension before/after points
An enhancement has been made to Draw annotation to enable the creation of Before and After dimension
points during the modification of a dimension.
 Before and After dimension points result in a DPBA element.
To add a Before/After dimension point to an existing dimension, menu options have been added to the
context editor prompted on clicking the + grip on a dimension.

The Vertex Editor has also been enhanced so that a BEFORE

dimension point can be changed to an AFTER dimension point simply
by changing the value in the Before/After options list.
