Lesson 1: How the TikTok algo works

Lesson structure:

1. How the algo works?

2. How to make the best hook in the world?

Algorithm formula

● 6 (if reviewing the video) +

● 5 (if viewing to the end) +
● 4 (if share) +
● 2 (if comment) +
● 1 (if like)

The sum of these = video rating per user

Algo preference:

(Total time play) / (amount

of unique views) =
(average watch time)

The bigger this number,

the more views you will
gain.
Example

(10 sec video with 100% retention rate) = (30 sec video with 33% retention rate)

Because the average play time is the same (10 sec)

The best video duration for TikTok: 20-40 sec

Which part of the video is the most
important?
The hook
The hook
The first 3 seconds of the video.
If more than 90% of the audience continues to watch after the first 3
seconds, the video will go viral.
A few hook advices
Use an interesting background
(there should be something
happening)
Appear sharply in frame
Use an unusual camera angle

Examples
Use bright colors in clothes and
on the background
Use a text of 2-4 words.

No more!
It is all about nonverbal hooks.

Just ask yourself, am I interested in watching

my video after 3 seconds?
Lesson 1: Practice time
Do and share:

1. Write 5 hooks using Tim's frameworks

2. Share it in the chat to get the feedback
