Equality and Equity

SOCIAL INJUSTICE
Social injustice is when actions are
taken that infringe upon a group's
rights, marginalize their
opportunities, or treat them
unfairly.

SOCIAL INJUSTICE
Social injustice can take many forms. From systemic
discrimination in education and employment
opportunities to prejudice and bias in social interactions.

However, social injustice extends beyond individual acts

of discrimination. It is deeply rooted in social structures
and institutions that perpetuate inequality.
SOCIAL JUSTICE
Social justice is fair treatment of all
people in a society, including respect
for the rights of minorities and
equitable distribution of resources
among members of a community.

Philippine Constitution ARTICLE Xlll:
Social Justice and Human Rights
SECTION 1. The Congress shall give highest priority to
the enactment of measures that protect and enhance
the right of all the people to human dignity, reduce
social, economic, and political inequalities, and
remove cultural inequities by equitably diffusing
wealth and political power for the common good.
When was Social Justice first coined?
Social Justice as a concept arose in the early 19th century
during the Industrial Revolution and subsequent civil
revolutions throughout Europe, which aimed to create
more egalitarian societies and remedy capitalistic
exploitation of human labor. Because of the stark
stratifications between the wealthy and the poor during
this time, early social justice advocates focused primarily
on capital, property, and the distribution of wealth.
When was Social Justice first coined?
By the mid-20th century, social justice had expanded
from being primarily concerned with economics to include
other spheres of social life to include the environment,
race, gender, and other causes and manifestations of
inequality.

GENDER WAGE GAP
In the Philippines, there is a persistent gender wage gap.
Women in the Philippines earn only 78% of what men earn.

by businesses, governments, and civil society
organizations to ensure that women are paid fairly for
their work.

for Gender Diverse People
GENDER DIVERSITY
Gender diversity is an umbrella
term that is used to describe
gender identities that demonstrate
a diversity of expression beyond
the binary framework.

GENDER DIVERSITY
For many gender diverse people, the concept of
binary gender – having to choose to express yourself
as male or female – is constraining. Some people
would prefer to have the freedom to change from one
gender to another, or not have a gender identity at
all. Others just want to be able to openly defy or
challenge more normalised concepts of gender.
SOGIE EQUALITY BILL
The SOGIE Equality Bill, short for Sexual Orientation
and Gender Identity Expression, has made history in the
Philippines as the longest-running bill ever under
Senate interpellation. The initial version of the Bill was
first introduced during the 11th Congress. As of now, it
is being implemented in the 17th Congress after beiing
