CXT® Concrete Tie Catalog

L.B. Foster offers a complete line of concrete railroad ties including standard track ties, gantry ties, and
specialty ties such as guard rail ties, restraining rail ties and grade crossing ties. All concrete ties are designed
in accordance with AREMA and owner specifications.

L.B. Foster’s concrete ties have high flexural strength and have been developed to work in conjunction
with the fastening system and ballast to resist lateral, longitudinal and vertical movement while in track.
Tie spacing can be increased with the concrete ties when compared to wood ties. Our dedicated sales and
engineering staff can work closely with you to optimize tie spacing based on axle load, speed and tonnage.
When compared to a traditional wood tie, concrete ties will provide a longer in-track life if installed properly
and at the correct spacing. Track gauge is also something that will require no maintenance with the concrete
ties. Concrete ties are engineered to maintain track gauge in the harshest of conditions and over long periods
of time.

Concrete ties are manufactured in two facilities strategically located to serve regional needs in Spokane,
Washington and Tucson, Arizona. These plants produce a complete series of concrete ties for all applications
and are ISO 9001:2008 certified.

Tie spacing: Ties are spaced 30” on center between switch and frog and at least 24” or greater in the switch
and frog. This reduces the number of ties in a typical turnout by approximately 25%, and fewer ties require
fewer special trackwork plates and reduces the installation cost.

CXT ENDURA-Ties mitigate railseat abrasion deterioration.

Benefits of Abrasion Resistant Concrete

• Full tie depth protection
• Non-topical, and therefore, has no effect on:
• Toe load
• Railseat cant
• Railseat flatness
• Consistency in manufacturing
• Equivalent concrete properties (fresh and
hardened) to CXT standard concrete, however,
with the added dimension of increased abrasion
resistant properties 64 ENDURA-Ties installed at TTCI FAST section 3 zone 2

• LEED points

CXT Concrete Ties offer a sustainable alternative

to other types of ties currently used in the North
American rail industry. Concrete ties provide
