Timeline
process

For my collage I thought of my interests,

hobbies, things that make me who I am,
inspirations, and added them behind me. I
turned it into a scrapbook effect by adding
a crinkled paper background and by put-
ting a ripped paper effect on the sides of
the stickers.

For my timeline I put an old school british

newspaper ‘The Times’ and added ripped
paper to continue the scrap book effect
from the collage so that they match. I used
filler words in the background and used
simple logos to summarise the event in the
timeline.
Scale

I began to start practicing how to do scaled people. It helped me understand that every
piece of detail is important, meaning in order to draw a more accurate scaled person I had
to measure the length of each body part and not just the height.
Light Construct

This is the result of my 3D model project, my task was to experiment with light and
shadows in a way where they interact with the interior. This task helped me realise the
importance of light and that it should always be taken into consideration how it will change
the feel of the room at different times/ different angles. This is my finalised design of a room
at an art exhibition.
process

Initially, I made this design to experiment with making scale people and how I can manip-
ulate the light. After this, I realised using card would be easier to work with and more aes-
thetically pleasing. this also gave me inspiration for what shapes to use.
Orthographic Drawing

My next task was to do an orthographic drawing of a pepper in 1:1 scale. This helped me
understand the concept of ‘sectioning’ in architecture and prepared me for the next step.
Elevation

After my practice with the peppers, it was much easier to do my elevation for my light
construct in 1:20. I used my model to guide me and make sure my measurements were
correct.
Schroder House

I started my research on the

‘Schroder House’ located in the
Netherlands. What captivated me
was Rietveld’s manipulation of space I got put into a group project where we
through the use of sliding doors, and created a 1:20, 3D model of the 1st floor of the
the way he expressed inspiration from ‘Schroder house’. Our goal was to show the
the ‘De Stijl’ art movement. iconic corner window and the sliding doors.

Timber Joint Research

The photos depict the interior of ‘Vori Greek Kitchen’ in Holland Park, showcasing a wood-
en wall-panel design likely made from medium-density fiberboard (MDF) with a hardwood
laminate for cost-effectiveness. The assembly involves precise alignment using wooden
dowel pins or adhesive-based butt-joints due to the high cost of hardwood. Another set
of images feature a chair in “Ruby Zoe Hotel and Bar” made from resilient ‘fir’ softwood.

Design Proposal

‘exhibtion of a rhinoceros in Venice’ Room 11

Pietro longhi the national art gallery

I was assigned to this painting for my installation and for my group project me and my
peers had to create a 3D model in 1:20 of room 11.
Painting Research

This painting by Pietro longhi was made in the 17th century. The context is that the Rhino
was being abused and tortured for the entertainment of others, while some are masked
and some arent. I felt that the painting is strong and symbolic and I wanted to display this
symbolisation and feeling of restrictedness and overcrowdedness in my elevation whilst
simultaneously creating an efficient and captivating design.
Visual Interpretation
Ideas

I began with my elevation by making mini sketches to visualise my ideas, I used this to
make mini models to me visualise a final model even more.
Experimenting
3
1

1. In this design I put 8 lights to represent the 8

people in the painting, The painting is framel-
ess to symbolise the missing horn of the rhino.

2. This design is more open and still requires

you to be standing on the platform to take in
the painting fully.

3. this design is more of a room and also re-

quires you to be standing directly infront of the
painting to view it, forcing you to interact.

Artist research

I saw this design by Paula Pintos and it in-

spired me because I liked the idea of having
limited vision from the outside but once you
are inside through the gaps it feels closed
yet it is still free making it easily accessible
and helps to initiate focus from people. I felt
I could use this idea for my installation.
CAD

I used CAD to experiment with a design efficiently, avoiding material waste. I chose this design for
its effective symbolism and captivation. I used 8 sticks to represent the number of people in the
painting, I surrounded the painting with a border like the rhino was, used matching stick colors that
match the colour of the audience in the painting, and layered them to evoke a crowded feel when
you are below it. I created gaps, prompting viewers to step onto the platform for a closer look inside. I
also placed the painting’s description at the back to make the installation engaging from both sides.

Installation 3d Model

The materials I would use in 1:1 for each piece are: maple wood for the pillars, vinyl wrap for the
colours around the timber, MDF for the wooden border with a thin sheet of mahogony stuck onto
the surface using adhesive, The painting stand will also be made the same way but with a black
acrylic cover panel instead.

Reflection
Initially I thought that this course would be focusing more on research
and gathering inspiration to prepare us for a straight-forward task.
Instead, we were given many tasks that helped broaden my
understanding on architecture, this also helped me expand my creativity.

I did not expect to have as much group projects and for everything to be
as fast paced as it was, however, now I can work at a higher speed
because I know how to organise myself to work more efficiently.

I found presentations every week beneficial as it helped me recognise

my flaws and strengths, this motivated me. I was also inspired from other
peoples designs and it helped me visualise my ideas more clearly.
