Elements of the Plan Methodology
Introductory Drill:
Activity (5 Let the students recite the odd and even numbers from number 1-20
min. ) Review:
Supply the needed number to make the number sentence correct.
1.) 5+___=55 2.) ___ -12 = 20 3.) 15x3=___
Motivation:
Show different kinds of equation:
a. 4 x 7 = 7 x 4
b. (4 x 5) x 6 = 4 x (5 x 6)
c. 5 x (2 + 4)=(3 x 2) + (3 x 4)

Ask the students what they have noticed from the given equations
Activity (5 Alphabet Number Code
min.) Crack the code using the
Alphabet Number Code

Answer:
Distributive, Associative, Commutative

Analysis (10 Discussion:

min.) Equation – is a Mathematical sentence that states the equality of
expressions.

Properties of Operations
1. Commutative Property – states that changing the order of the

numbers does not affect the answer.

2. Associative Property – states that changing the grouping of the

factors does not affect the answer.

3. Distributive Property of Multiplication over Addition – states that

when a factor is given as a sum, multiplying each addend by the other
factor before adding does not change the product.

• To find the missing number find the value of each side of the equation or
evaluate each side.
Example: ( 8x5)x4=8x(5x4)
40 x 4 = 8 x 20
160 = 160
• Just look at the other side if either the number appears on the other side or
not. If that happens it means ,it is the missing number.
Abstraction Generalization:
(10 min.) What are the three Properties of Operations?
What is a Commutative Property?
What is an Associative Property?
What is a Distributive Property of Multiplication over Addition?
How did you find the missing numbers?
Application Group Activity: One for All, All for One
(8 min.) Divide the class into 6 groups and give each group a board, chalk, and eraser.

Mechanics: From the given equations, write the missing numbers on your
board and determine what properties of operation is being used. Write CP if
it is a Commutative Property, AP if it is an Associative Property, and DP if it
is a Distributive Property of Multiplication over Addition. Wait for the
teacher’s signal before raising your answer.

3. (9 + 10) + (2 + 5) = (2 + __) + (__ + 10)
4. (11 x 14) x 18 = __ x (14 x 18)
5. (16 + 4) + (__ + 3) = (__+ 6) + (4 + __)
6. 8 x (2 + 5) = (__ x 2) + (8 x __)
7. (10 x __) x 2 = __ x (4 x __)
8. 24 + 16 = __ + 24
9. (3 x 1) x 5 = 3 x (__x 1)
10. 4 (20 + 15) = (4 x __) + (4 x __)

Assessment Test 1.

1.) 6 + (5 + 2) = (5 + 2) + 6 Answers:
2.) 3 x (7 + 4) = (3 x 7) + (3 x 4) 1. Commutative
3.) (7 + 5) + 3 = 7 + (5 + 3) 2. Distributive
4.) 5 x 6 = 6 x 5 3. Associative
5.) 6 + (8 + 9) = (6 + 8) +9 4. Commutative
5. 5. Associative
