2.MATERIAL2.1.

Aluminium

Aluminium alloy used in the manufacture of windows shall conform to ISdesignation HE 9-WP of IS:733.
The sectional properties of extrudedsections shall be as given in IS:1948 or as manufactured by
approvedmanufacturer such as

Ji

ndal or approved by engineer in charge. The sectionshall be uniform in appearance, free from die lines
and handling marks.

2.2. Glass Panels

Glass panels shall be clear float glass panes with 5 mm thick. Glass panesshall weigh at least 7.5 kg/m2
and shall be free from flaws, specks orbubbles. All panes shall have properly squared corners and
straight edges.The sizes of glass panes for use shall be in accordance with IS:1948

2.3. Screws and fasteners

Screws and fasteners shall be of aluminium alloy or brass oxidised. Screwthread of machine screws used
in the manufacture of aluminium windows

shall conform to the requirement of IS. Diameter range should be between0·25 to 39 mm

3. FABRICATION3.1. Frames

Frames shall be square and flat; the corners of the frame being fabricated toa true right angle. Both the
fixed and opening frames shall be constructed ofsections which have been cut to length, mitred and
screwed at the corners.The dimensions should be overall heights and widths to the outside of framesof
aluminium windows. These sizes are derived after allowing 1.25cmclearance on all the four sides for the
purpose of fitting windows into modularopenings. The sizes for window frames shall not vary by more
than ± 1·5mm.

3.1.1. Sub Frames

Sub frame where recommended, shall match the main frame section.The corners of the sub frame shall
be at right angle. All sides of the subframe adjacent to the masonry/concrete shall be properly sealed to
avoidany water entry inside.

3.2. Shutters

All hinges, pivots, etc. shall be provided and fabricated in accordance withprovisions given in IS:1948.
However, reference standards and drawings arealso to be read in conjunction with the IS Code.

3.3. Finishing
The aluminium sections to be used shall be properly buffed, cleaned by usingmild acids and water. Then
the same shall be anodised to have averageanodic film thickness of 25 microns.To prevent damage to
metal surfaces, a protective tape shall be applied aftermanufacturing and same shall be removed at site
only after completion ofrough trades.
