004-FRDS-FHDS Flexible Hose Drain Systems B200715

Maxwell Roof Drain Systems

Flexible Hose Drain Systems

The Maxwell Hose Drain Systems are installed on tanks equipped with an external floating roof.
Maxwell provide a comprehensive program of drain hoses and couplings used for reliable rainwater
drainage from external floating roofs. The operating conditions to which the hose is subjected
determines the requirements the hose must meet.
It is important to be aware of all operating conditions and the manner of hose installation. Like tank
diameter and tank height, the stored medium, operating temperature and ambient temperature,
operating pressure or vacuum and tank shell- and external floating roof connection.
Incorrect use may cause tears in the hose, may deform it or may expand it; or may damage the
insert, over braid and/or spiral.
The Maxwell drain hoses are available in standard sizes 3”/4”/6”, other sizes are deliverable upon
request.
Drain hoses can have problems with their own buoyancy, in most instances they must become
ballasted (made heavier) to overcome their own displaced weight. This to prevent a water slot
during any unwanted floating of the drain hose.
For protection against damage by roof legs misalignment when landing on top of the hose,
engineering details are provided upon request.
All our drain hoses will be delivered with a test certificate.

003-FRRS-EFR-MRS EFR Floating Roof Rim Seals V200715

Maxwell EFR • Fitted floating roof peripheral rim seals

The most common used External Floating Roof Rim Seals either used as a single or combined
setting (either used as a single or combined configuration);

EFR Mechanical Shoe seals

 MRS-1/750-1000 Primary Mechanical Shoe Seal

Also known as a “metallic shoe seal”, is characterized by a metallic sheet (the
“shoe”) that is held against the vertical tank wall. The shoe is connected by
braces to the floating deck and is held tightly against the wall by springs or
weighted levers. A flexible coated fabric (the “envelope”) is suspended from
the shoe seal to the floating deck to form a vapor barrier over the annular
space between the deck and the primary seal.
 MRS-1/HD Heavy Duty Primary Mechanical Shoe Seal
The MRS-1/HD is a Heavy Duty Liquid Mounted Primary Shoe Plate Seal most
of the time fitted together with a Shoe Mounted Secondary Seal. This robust
seal can be designed for arctic heavy snow load conditions, when equipped
with weather plates. The Heavy-Duty seal can even be put in service for snow
loads conditions of up to 1.2 KN/m2.
 MRS-3 Primary Spring Plate Shoe Seal
Also known as a “metallic shoe seal”, characterized by metallic overlapping
sheets which are pushed by an integral compression spring to the tank wall.
Having a gas-tight membrane hold in place by a membrane support makes
this Spring Plate Seal very effective in reducing evaporation of emissions to
nearly “zero” emission. Suitable for tanks without appreciable tank shell
distortion or where the product stored is aggressive.

EFR Liquid Mounted Seals

 MRS-6 Primary Liquid Filled Tube Seal

Our MRS-6 Primary Liquid Filled Tube Seal is a liquid-filled rim seal, which
consists of a tough fabric band or envelope filled with a liquid, or it may
consist of a flexible polymeric tube 200 to 250 millimetres (8 to 10 in.) in
diameter filled with a liquid and sheathed with a tough fabric scuff band. The
liquid is commonly a petroleum distillate or other liquid that will not
contaminate the stored product if the tube ruptures. Liquid-filled rim seals are
mounted on the liquid product surface with no vapor space below the seal.
 MRS-7/750 Primary Foam Filled Seal
Is a resilient foam-filled rim seal, which acts like a liquid-filled seal except that
a resilient foam log is used in place of the liquid? The resiliency of the foam
log permits the seal to adapt itself to minor imperfections in tank dimensions
and in the tank shell. The foam log can be mounted as vapor-mounted above
the liquid surface or mounted as liquid-mounted pointing in the liquid surface.

EFR Vapor-Mounted Seals

 MRS-20P Primary Compression Plate Seal

Our MRS-20P Primary Compression Plate Seal is a vapor or vapour mounted
rim seal on an external floating roof and consists of a continuous seal
mounted on the rim of the floating roof and extending to the tank wall,
covering the entire primary seal. These primary seals are normally
constructed with a flexible polymeric material, where the design incorporates
steel leaves to bridge the gap between the roof and the tank wall. The leaf’s
acts as a compression plate to hold a polymeric wiper against the tank wall.

Maxwell EFR Rim Seals can be combined with a Secondary Rim Seal

 MRS-12 Secondary Shoe-Mounted Seal (only for MRS-1 models)

Another type of secondary seal is a shoe-mounted secondary seal. A shoe-
mounted seal extends from the top of the shoe to the tank wall. These seals
do not provide protection against VOC leakage through the envelope. Holes,
gaps, tears, or other defects in the envelope can permit direct exchange
between the saturated vapor under the envelope and the atmosphere. Wind
can enter this space through envelope defects, flow around the
circumference of the tank, and exit saturated or nearly saturated with VOC
vapours.
 MRS-20S Secondary Compression Plate Seal
Our MRS-20S Secondary Compression Plate Seal (typical same design as
MRS-20P) is a vapor or vapour mounted rim seals on an external floating roof
consists of a continuous seal mounted on the rim of the floating roof and
extending to the tank wall, covering the entire primary seal. These secondary
seals are normally constructed with a flexible polymeric material, where the
design incorporates steel leaves to bridge the gap between the roof and the
tank wall. The leaf’s acts as a compression plate to hold a polymeric wiper
against the tank wall.

Maxwell EFR Rim Seals can be combined with a Weather Shield

 MRS-25 Weather Shield

Our MRS-25 Weather Shield may be installed over the primary seal to protect it from
deterioration caused by debris and exposure to the elements. Though the covering standards
do not accept the installation of a weather shield as equivalent to a secondary seal, there are
many existing tanks covered by this configuration. Typically, a weather shield is an
arrangement of overlapping thin metal sheets pivoted from the floating roof to ride against
the tank wall. The weather shields, by the nature of its design, is not an effective vapor
barrier. For this reason, it differs from the secondary seal. Although the two devices are
conceptually similar in design, they are designed for and serve different purposes.

006-CECD-GPPS Gauge Pole Pipe CoversB200715

Maxwell Emissions Control Devices for Floating Roof Gauge Poles

Various regulatory agencies are requiring slotted gauge poles / guide poles to become equipped
with an emissions control system.

Floating Roof Gauge Poles Sealing Systems # GPS

The most common used Sealing Systems for Floating Roof Gauge Poles and Gauge Pole Wells are
following configurations;

 Maxwell Gauge Pole Pipe Covers # GPPC

The Maxwell Gauge Pole Pipe Cover are designed to inhibit
hydrocarbon vapours from escaping from aboveground storage tank
(AST) slotted gauge poles / guide poles. The Maxwell Gauge Pole
Pipe Cover is sealing-in the vapours that otherwise would leak
through the slots in the pole(s) into the air.
The Maxwell Gauge Pole Pipe Cover is a “green” product, designed to
reduce emissions and protect our environment from atmospheric
contamination.

 Maxwell Gauge Pole Well Seals # GPWS

The Maxwell Gauge Pole Well Seal features a “low-profile; stainless
steel sleeve containing a wiper liner.
This liner provides excellent chemical and abrasion resistance and
effectively closes the slots in the gauge pole near the floating roof
deck well.

Advantages GPS Sealing Systems for Floating Roof Gauge Poles

Compared to non-sealed Floating Roof Gauge Poles;

 Maxwell Gauge Pole Emissions Control Devices are designed to significantly reduce
hydrocarbon emissions from slotted gauge/ guide poles located on either external or
internal floating roof storage tanks.

Maxwell Pro- Drain Flexible Pivoting Hose Joint

The Maxwell Pro- Drain Flexible Pivoting Hose Joints are in favour when
compared to conventional
hose drains, where all types of
drain hoses are susceptible
from time to time to interfere
with floating roof landing legs,
which might result into in
premature drain hose failures.
Our Maxwell Pro-Drain Flexible Pivoting Hose Joints will
always remain within the same narrow operating base
framer and therefor will never interfere with landing legs
because of its fixed geometry
Note, drain hoses as well might have problems with their
own buoyancy, they must be very heavy to overcome their
own displaced weight.
Maxwell Swivel Joint (Offset)
The Maxwell swivel joints, which permit a wide range of horizontal and
vertical movements, are very
easy to handle, move and
position.
Our range can meet almost all
chemical, gas or oil product
transfer requirements, even in
the most difficult service conditions, while considering
specific conditions of use (like aggressive products, etc.).

Maxwell Swing Joint (Central)

The Maxwell Swing Joint is initially designed for use on storage tanks
where there is a need to draw off product from just below the surface of
liquids stored in bulk.
In some cases, the swing joint is used for drainage of rainwater.
