PERSONAL STATEMENT

Being the eldest child in the family with two little sisters, I am the one who always takes
care of my siblings whenever my parents are not around. With the guidance of both of my
parents, I learned how to be responsible and make decisions early. Moreover, I was the class
monitor in my class for five years since primary two thus I am certain that I have the leadership
spirit in me.

Deciding on a major which can maximize my leadership potential is a walk in the park as
I know early on during my childhood what I like and am passionate about. Since primary grades,
I have always loved Mathematics. I feel it was very satisfying to work with numbers and to find
answers through all the solutions provided. I would say that my teacher during my fifth year in
primary school was the one that influenced me the most because he always asked us to find the
answers effectively not just by following the provided ways. Because of him, I have always
applied those mindsets to almost everything I am doing to get a faster and better result.

Stepping on to secondary years, I began to learn about business in school and that was the
first time I realized that I was interested in business. I began to tell my father about it as my
father is also a businessman. He taught me a lot of stuff about Business and one of them is
Business Analytics. Over time, I developed a taste for solving problems through analysis.
Personally, I loved the challenge of finding the answer to a tough question. It gave me a sense of
achievement. Another aspect of business analytics that I found to be very interesting is that,
while every problem presented a unique challenge, it could be solved using a common set of
knowledge and analytical approach.

As the time to choose a career path drew near, the field of business analytics seemed to
be the obvious choice for me. I like to call it natural selection. Just the thought of the plethora of
unique challenges that each industry and business could pose is tremendously exciting to me.
Every company, with its many departments, each department having a variety of functions,
presents an analyst with a multitude of opportunities to drive efficiencies. The ability to bring
about positive change from the process level to corporate strategizing is another aspect of
analytics that I knew I will enjoy doing.
My short-term goal is to specialize in business analytics through the NUS Business
program. After graduation, I hope to become a professional business consultant in a global
company. My long-term goal is to establish a consulting company, which will help small and
medium enterprises (SMEs) make the right choices to develop their businesses based on data
analysis. To be perfectly frank, NUS is my dream school. I know for sure that NUS has extensive
connections with big companies, which may help my career development in the future. Many
graduates have said that their experience at NUS greatly developed their business insights and
had a major impact on their lives. Business analytics will give me a deeper understanding of
business and a positive push towards my future. I am eager to fully devote myself to the courses
and improve my skills as a creative and original thinker. I believe that the educational
environment of NUS will provide me with the skills and experience to become a successful
business leader of the future.
