Employers OHSA

The Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) • Asbestos on Construction Projects and in Building

• Confined Spaces (Reg. 632/05)
• Provide information and instruction to workers to • Construction Projects (Reg. 213/91)
protect their health or safety (OHSA, s.25(2)(a)). • Industrial Establishments (Reg. 851)

supervisors, and committee members as • Occupational Health and Safety Awareness and
prescribed (OHSA, s.26(1)(l)). Training (Reg. 297/13)
Specific training requirements are spelled out in • Window Cleaning (Reg. 859)
the regulations made under the OHSA, such as • WHMIS (Reg. 860)
the duty of employers to ensure that workers and
supervisors complete a basic occupational health TSSA
and safety awareness training program (O. Reg. • Fuel Industry Certificates (Reg. 215/01)
297/13, s.1 and 2). • Gaseous Fuels (Reg. 212/01)
Training requirements for construction workers • Propane Storage and Handling (Reg. 211/01)
are also found in regulations under the Technical
WSIA
Standards and Safety Act, 2000 (TSSA) and the
Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA). • First Aid Requirements (Reg. 1101)

NOTE: Some training may require the completion

of a certification program that has been
approved by the Ministry of Training, Colleges,
and Universities (MTCU).

NOTE: Employers must determine whether

workers, regardless of their tasks, have been
"adequately" trained and instructed in the
hazards they will face. For example, workers who
may use a fall protection system must be trained
in working at heights before beginning work on
a project, as required by O. Reg. 297/13. To test
their level of training, employers should request
a demonstration of knowledge or skill rather than
accepting a "proof of training" card at face value.
