Medical Advances
Medical advance is the generation of information
or a discovery of knowledge that improves our
understanding of medical science, this is a
significant breakthrough that results in an
improvement of the diagnosis, treatment, and
prevention of disease.

• Discovery of new pharmaceutical drugs

and vaccines

Advancement In
The Medical Field

1 Telehealth and
telemedicine
With the ability to virtually attend
sessions via a computer or other
device, telehealth and telemedicine are
starting to change how consumers
receive medical care. Patients are
seeing doctors more quickly and
having more access to them than they
would have if they could meet them in
person because of this.
In the upcoming years, artificial intelligence (AI) is predicted

2 Artificial
to drastically change our lives; its influence on the
healthcare industry could be the greatest and most
extensive of any other industry. Companies that
Intelligence manufacture pharmaceuticals and medical devices and
technology have collaborated to improve medical care,
detect and diagnose illnesses, and even support drug
development by transforming digital processes.
3 CRISPR
Curing diseases that were thought to be incurable is just
one of the many medical opportunities made possible by
CRISPR. For those with genetic problems, CRISPR is a
game-changer since it can be used to fix mutations at the
DNA level.

4 Personalized
medicine
Precision medicine refers to the use of medications,
therapies, and equipment that are customized for each
patient, greatly lowering the possibility of adverse effects
while boosting efficacy.
NEW MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIES

1.MRNA TECHNOLOGY
It is believed that mRNAs have been used beyond vaccinations.
Since almost any protein may be encoded by mRNA, this fundamental
technology may also enable the development of a wide range of treatments
by inducing a drug-like reaction in the body. Numerous protein-based
medications, including synthetic antibodies, have shown to be incredibly
successful but also quite costly. Therefore, by leveraging mRNA technology
to direct the human body to produce the proteins instead of the developer,
development times and costs could be reduced.
2. VIRTUAL REALITY
Medical professionals' training has also benefited immensely from
VR since it makes it possible to enter a person's body. The patient can virtually
step into a panoramic picture of their body, which helps doctors diagnose by
providing a better knowledge of the ailment or condition that the patient is
experiencing.
3. NEUROTECHNOLOGY
Neurotechnology is currently being used in healthcare for three
purposes: brain imaging, which records the magnetic fields created by electrical
activity in the brain; neurostimulation, which stimulates the brain and nervous
system to affect brain activity; and neuro devices, which is a new technology
that uses an implant to monitor or control brain activity.
While most neuro-device research is still in its early stages, there is great
promise for treating brain problems. All components created to comprehend the
brain, visualize its operations, and even manipulate, restore, or enhance its
functioning are included in neurotechnology. These parts could be electrodes,
computers, or anything else that could be configured to intercept bodily electric
signals.
4. 3D PRINTING

Surgery professionals are now able to attempt procedures they would

not have been able to perform in the past by using a realistic duplicate of an
actual patient's anatomy. The utilization of 3D-printed models for preoperative
training and planning of difficult surgeries has the potential to save restoration
time and operating room time while simultaneously improving success rates.

The patient's body then grows these artificial organs to replace the
original malfunctioning ones. Millions of patients who rely on annual life-saving
transplants could be spared if prosthetic organs could be supplied that the body's
immune system does not reject.
5. HEALTH WEARABLES

In the healthcare sector, smartwatches continue to be among the most

popular wearable gadgets. Major tech companies, like Apple, Google, and
Samsung, are all competing for market share. They can record ECGs, blood
pressure, oxygen saturation, and sleep patterns, depending on the model. It
would be easier for people with diabetes if manufacturers included sensors for
measuring blood glucose in their smartwatches, something they are currently
working on. In addition to smartwatches, other gadgets like hearables, smart
rings, smart garments, and smartwatches are growing in popularity and
usefulness for gathering data for clinical research.

Neuroscience Advances
Genomic Medicine
Advances in genomics
have led to personalized
medicine, where treatments
are tailored to an individual's
genetic makeup. Precision
medicine, based on genetic
information, is increasingly
used in cancer treatment
and various genetic disorder.
Immunotherapy
Immunotherapy has
emerged as a promising
approach in the treatment of
cancer. It involves using the
body's own immune system
to target and eliminate
cancer cells. CAR-T cell
therapy is an example of this
groundbreaking approach.
Nanomedicine

Nanotechnology is
being applied to medicine,
allowing for targeted drug
delivery, imaging, and
diagnostics at the molecular
level. This can enhance the
effectiveness of treatments
while minimizing side effects.
Neuroscience Advances
Advances in neuroscience
include brain-machine
interfaces, deep brain
stimulation, and research on
neurodegenerative diseases.
These technologies have
implications for treating
conditions such as
Parkinson's disease and
epilepsy.

CHALLENGES IN
MEDICAL ADVANCES

1 Increasing
populations
This means there is an ongoing
demand for healthcare providers to
meet the unmet needs of patients.
Patients across the world are finding it
increasingly harder to access health
care due to oversubscribed doctors
and hospitals.
CHALLENGES IN
MEDICAL ADVANCES

2 Increasing
costs
As it’s becoming progressively more
difficult for life science companies to
deliver cures for their unmet needs of
patients, this is pushing up the cost of
research and development and
therefore impacting the price of
medicine for consumers.
