1 Overview

This document describes how to clean the imaging oil system from ink sludge etc.

There are a number of situations that call for the imaging oil system to be cleaned, these are some of
the scenarios:

● When the voltage of the cleaning station pump is higher that 24 V.

● When the PIP temperature is too high, or there are scratches on the PIP foil.

● As part of DFS troubleshooting.

● Recommended before installing the EIOS (Economy IOS) or DFS upgrades.

CAUTION: Use protective gloves and glasses when performing these procedures.

NOTE: Make sure that hoses are not bent over.

Where new hoses or fittings are available, replace the existing hoses or fittings, if it will save time.
Always use Teflon tape when installing hoses and fittings.

Always use the correct hose clamps, and make sure to tighten them.

Cleaning the imaging oil reservoir

1. Shut down the press software. Turn off the press.
2. Drain the imaging oil from the imaging oil reservoir.

3. Remove the IOC board.

4. Remove the 2 screws holding the reservoir, on the lower right side of the base bracket.
5. Drain the remaining imaging oil from the imaging oil reservoir.
6. Remove the plastic separator from the reservoir.

7. Clean any sludge from the reservoir.

8. Disconnect the upper metal connector (to the imaging oil filters). A second person is required to
loosen the nut from behind the reservoir (30 mm open wrench).

Cleaning the cleaning station pump

Cleaning the fittings between the cleaning station pump and the
heat exchanger
1. Disconnect the hoses and clean the fittings between the cleaning station pump and the Heat
exchanger (containing the flow reduction fitting).

2. Carefully push the flow reduction fitting out of the hose.

3. Measure the inner diameter of the flow reduction fitting. If the diameter is 4.5 mm, replace the
fitting with the new type (P/N CA341–32991).
If the diameter is 5.3 mm, clean the fitting.

3 Cleaning station outlet path

Removing the air unit to access the DFS vessel

For some presses e.g. HP Indigo 7000 Digital Press, removing the air unit allows easier access when
removing the vessel lid and float assembly.
If necessary, release the 4 screws holding the air unit, to access the DFS vessel.
