This excess demand for drinking water will increase during the World Cup, at which
time the country will receive thousands of fans and delegations from different parts of
the world to enjoy this great event.
ACTIVITY1
Given the characteristics of its territory and its location, where do you think drinking
water in Qatar is obtained from?
A) Working in groups of four search on the web information about this subject and
discuss this issue with your classmates.
B) Locate Qatar on the map. (While everyone looks at the map, the teacher can guide
through questions that invite them to search for more information about the country in
question.)
Observing the location of Qatar on the map, do you think something different in relation
to what was said in the initial debate?
Qatar is surrounded by such a large mass of salt water!
Will it be possible to turn seawater into drinking water? What method do you come up
with?
Compare the ideas that came up in the previous activity with the following information:
(...) Indeed, 61% of the water available in Qatar comes from desalination, that is,
seawater converted into drinking water. The remaining 39% is distributed between
groundwater (25%) and reused water (14%).
What have your group learned about drinking water in Qatar?
Each student will write as list and then tell the class (orally) what they have found out

At the end of 2020, the National Congress approved that the Day of the Argentine
Soccer Player be celebrated on August 21 of each year. This recognition is the
product of the claim of many people who, for almost a century, have been trying
to give women access to have space and prominence in football.
In Argentina, women have always been part of soccer, playing in women's teams
and also in teams with men. At the same time, and in addition to "putting on the
shirt", throughout history they played other roles linked to this sport: they were
linesmen, referees, rapporteurs, coaches, club leaders and, of course, fans.
However, for a long time and still today, some people think that soccer is not an
appropriate sport for them. Others think that it is, although only if they
participate in spaces where there are exclusively women, that is, where they can
play among women, direct women's matches and train women's teams.
ACTIVITY 1
Read the text and add more information you found on the internet regarding this subject.
With that in mind think about the following questions and debate with your classmates,
feel free to talk about your feelings and you can also ask questions.
1) What are the circumstances that remain the same throughout the
history of women's football?
2) Which have changed? What channels do and did the players use to
express their claims?
3) ) what are the main problems that women who play soccer have?
4) What is the situation of the players in other countries?
5) When were the women's soccer world cups? 6) How did the women's
national team do in the last World Cup (2019)?
ACTIVITY 2
Write down:
1) A list of verbs in present and past tense found in the text.
2) A list of adjectives
3) A list of nouns
4) Write a short paragraph summarizing what you have learned in today
´s class.
The Qatar 2022 Soccer World Cup is an event that promotes the linking of cultures, since it is a
sporting event that opens the doors to the different countries that participate in it and to all those
who want to attend. This confluence of citizens from different parts of the planet can be an
opportunity to get closer to other realities that can be recovered based on beliefs, language,
traditions, codes, among other issues.
These cultural exchanges are a reflection of the diversity present in the world and have taken place
since 1930, the date on which the soccer World Cups began to take place. Beyond the time elapsed,
the current globalization and the immediacy of social networks that allow us to know what is
happening in other parts of the planet, even today it is possible to say that these events, on
occasions, can generate strong tensions and conflicts between the people.
Al-Khater, from the Organizing Committee, warned that no one will be able to express
affection in public, although he said that the LGBTIQ+ community will be welcome.
Yes, 2021 and unfortunately there are countries, such as the host of the next World
Cup, in which homosexuality continues to be condemned. This Wednesday, one of the
representatives of the Qatar 2022 Organizing Committee, Nasser Al-Khater, was in
charge of making it clear what freedoms of expression in public will have for members
of the LGBTIQ+ community who attend the World Cup next year . Although he stated
that homosexuals will be "welcome" in the Qatari country, he also clarified that they
will be prohibited from showing affection in front of other people. He called for
"respect for their culture."
However, heterosexual couples will also not be allowed to hold hands, kiss or hug in
public.
[...] "Public displays of affection (between gays) are frowned upon and this applies to
everyone. Qatar and neighboring countries are much more conservative and we ask
fans to respect. We are sure they will. So "As we respect different cultures, we hope
ours is too. Members of the LGBTIQ+ community will come to Qatar as fans
And attendees of a football tournament and will be able to do what any other human
being would do," said the Qatari executive.
In Qatar, homosexuality is punishable by up to five years in jail. And in the event that
homosexuals are Muslims, they can be executed, because in that country they are
governed by what the Sharia says; Islamic law detailing the society's code of conduct,
moral criteria and what is accepted or not.
Olé (2021, December 1) Qatar 2022: public displays of affection will be prohibited.
Recovered in September 2022.
