DISSECTION
Pre-Laboratory Activity Lecture
What can we learn from dissecting a frog?
•Many of the body systems of
humans and frogs are similar.
•We can compare frog and human
anatomy to gain a better
understanding of human body
systems.
Safety Precautions
Tools for dissections are sharp; you must use
them carefully.

Always wear gloves when touching the frog


or things that have touched the frogs.

Everyone must wear goggles during this lab.

Please use care when handling the frogs. We


are using them to learn.

You must follow the directions carefully!


Characteristics used to tell apart
male and female frogs:
Body size: In most species, females are on average larger than
males.
Nuptial pads: Males in many species have rough patches of skin
on their hands.
Loose skin on throat: Males in some species have loose skin on
their throat.
Enlarged ears: In just a few species, male frogs have larger ears
than female frogs.

known as Rana catesbeiana)
PALAKANG BUKID
Scientific Name:
Fejervarya limnocharis
-a species of frog found widely distributed in
South Asia. It is known under many common
names, including Indian cricket frog, Boie's
wart frog, rice field frog, and Asian grass
frog.
