SPEAKING TEST INSTRUCTIONS

CEFR B1
This interview-based Speaking test takes the form of 2 examiners and 1 candidate at a time.
The test will take from 3 to 5 minutes for each candidate.

TEST PROCEDURE

PHASE 1: TOPIC SELECTION

The examiners invite 6 candidates at a time to pick up topics.


Each candidate has about 5 minutes to brainstorm ideas and makes notes, if necessary, on blank
papers provided by the examiners.

PHASE 2: INTERVIEW (4 minutes)

Warm-up: (1 minute)
The examiners randomly ask each candidate 2 to 3 questions as below:
 May I have your full name, please?
 How are you today?
 What is your major?
 Where are you living now?
 What do you often do in your free time?
 How many people are there in your family? Who are they?

Topic discussion: (2 minutes)


The examiners ask the candidate to talk about the chosen topic.
*Note: The candidates are not expected to read scripts from their notes.
Example:
Describe a famous person that you would like to meet.
You should say:
 Who is he/she?
 Why is he/she famous?
 Why do you want to meet him/her?
 What would you do if you met him/her?

Further discussion: (optional-1minute)


The examiners ask the candidate a few more questions related to the previous topic.

PHASE 3: CLOSURE
The examiners:
- signal the candidate that is the end of the test.
- say thanks to the candidate.
- complete the scoring form.
