Triple Eccentric No-Contact Ball Valve

The 3PL EXX BV Series belongs to the KG Equipments family of

special ball valves and is characterized by a peculiar triple
eccentricity design of the ball and no-contact feature for metal-to-
metal seal-seat interface.
The 3PL EXX BV Series can cover a wide range of applications:

The 3PL EXX BV Series offers:
No-Contact between seal and seat

The peculiar conical design of the ball assures that during the rotation
there is no contact between the sealing ring (mounted on the ball) and
the seat (fixed to the body).
Only in fully closed position sealing ring and seat are in contact,
tightness is ensured by the closing torque.
Due to the Triple eccentric desing ss soon as the ball start the rotation
(after 5°) the sealing ring moves away from the seat eliminating any
the rubbing, that is typical of common ball valve in which the seat is
always in contact with the ball.
This characteristic is very significant especially when the valve is used
for control of solid or abrasive materials, because it reduces or
eliminates the negative effects of erosion.
Moreover the fact of having no contact between the two sealing
elements makes our 3PL EXX BV particularly suitable for application
with high number of opening – closing cycles.
For this particular applications the life expectancy of 3PL EXX BV is
higher than traditional ball valves.

Intrinsically Fire Safe design

The metal to metal sealing of 3PL EXX BV Series assures that the
valve is by nature Fire Safe.
This design will assure that the shutoff capability is unaltered during
and after a fire and in general when high temperature resistance is
required.

Piggability

The 3PL EXX BV Series offers many of the technical advantages of

the well known triple eccentric butterfly valve, it has the same reliable
and well proven design of the two sealing elements, moreover it can
be piggable as a common ball valve.

 Operating Principle

Seat

Sealing Ring

Closed Position
When the valve is in closed position the
eccentric sealing ring, which is fied on the
ball, is in contact with the seat by means
of its elastic deformation. This deformation
is ensured by torque action, this fact
makes the valve able to retain the shut-off
independently of the line pressure

Early Opening

When the opening movement starts

after 5° the sealing ring is
completely detached by the seat, so
there is no contact during the
stroke, no friction and then no
scratches due to solid particles.

Closing Phase

During closing stroke, when the ball’s sealing ring is approaching the
seat, a self-cleaning action take place, removing the dirt that could be
deposited on the seat surface.
The torque applied guarantees the tightness of the valve. This torque
is necessary in order to deform elastically the sealing ring and perfectly
fit the seat profile.
The triple eccentric ball valve can guarantee with absolute repeatability
a class V leakage during all its service life.
