Of The Sulu Sea it is Hdtv historical documentary produced by oak three films and it
was directed by IZWAN OTHMAN and it as published by looking glass international 2013
at Victoria Australia it is product of a co-production agreement between media authority
of Singapore and Korean broadcasting commission was first released on 2007 for Q

discovery channel and history channel and history channel for asia in 2008 the
documentary fil talks about muslim raiders of the sulu sea region namely the illinos
balanigi samal’s and the tausogs and how they protected their business religion culture
and power during the Spanish colonization it also discusses culture of slave raiding
of the muslim tribes and how they used as a form of a retaliation on the colonizers.
The Spaniards colonizes Zamboanga in the 16th century because its geographical
advantage that made it vulnerable to the catholic Spaniards there were three tribes
coming from the southern Philippines who tried to resist the role of the Spanish
colonizers first was the ilanun who was known as fierce in marine forest in sultanate
they were very important tribe in the piracy history the illanun raided not only coastal
Philippines but also far out into the south china sea the second tribe was samal
balamgini they are experts leading group they are one of the sama communities that
originally inhabited the thunkil island group they were relocated to Zamboanga peninsula
coast and island as a result of the 1848 military campaign the last strike would be that
the Tausog controlled the sulu sultanate they are known for its fears and wide spread
political powers.

How the raiders of the sulu sea become powerful as marinetime raiding in the
Philippines predated the first Spanish incursions in the region in 16 th century but was
aggravated by the protracted conflict between the Spanish colonizers and the muslim
of the southern Philippines from 1565 to 1898 as well as by the region’s integrations
into the global commercial sytems oof the early modern period and the influx of
European firearms to the region throught of the three and a haft centuries oof conflict
between the Spanish and the popuations of the southern Philippines maritime raiding
played a care rule not only for the accumulation of wealth and slave but also as a
means of warfare and anti-colonial resistance.
