BUILDING BRIDGES: THE POWER OF STRONG PARENT-CHILD RELATIONSHIPS

A child's development revolves around having strong parent-child relationships. They affect
kids' cognitive, social, and emotional growth and may greatly improve their prospects for
success (Prasanna, 2021). Growing up as a teenager and dealing with life's challenges, I've
realized how important friendship is to parent-child relationships. And it hasn’t always been
easy. Growing up, I often found myself yearning for a deeper connection with my parents, a
bond built on trust, understanding, and open communication. And that’s what I want to talk
about today.

Open communication between parents and children is significant for our mental and
physical well-being. Trust and understanding are firmly established when we can freely
communicate our thoughts and emotions. Effective communication allows us to share our
joys and fears, fostering a deeper connection with our parents. It helps us navigate the
complexities of life, seek guidance, and receive the support we need. When we feel heard
and understood, it positively impacts our mental health. Open communication is also
essential for ensuring our physical health. We get to discuss important topics like health,
safety, and personal boundaries. We can openly talk about our needs, ensuring that our
parents can provide the necessary care and support.

I can guarantee you that there are a lot ofpeople that don't have aclose relationship with
their parents, and either they are crying in my arms, or they are acting in ways that their
parents don't approve of. Several studies havefound that children who have abad
relationship with their parents are moreprone to act out of desperation for their attention,
which leads them to do things that their parents consider unacceptable. These kids believe
that if they do odd behaviors, their parents will eventually be able to see them, and they
seek love from them for that reason.

We all long for love and support, and it’s within our families that these foundations are built.
By fostering a great relationship with our parents, we experience firsthand the love and care
that every child deserves. It sets the stage for healthy emotional development and provides
a sense of security. Family is where it all begins and when we have one who's always there
to support us, we can face life's challenges with confidence and know that we are never
alone.
