4 Quality and Submittals

4.1 Quality Assurance

The quality of work shall be controlled to meet the requirements of this specification, the
referenced codes and standards, and other contract documents in effect on the date of
contract.

The contractor shall have a quality management system (QMS) that controls the specified
inspections and testing of their material and/or services.

The Client reserves the right to evaluate the contractor’s QMS documentation and to
decide if the systems meet the Project requirements. The Client, or his representative,
also reserves the right to perform inspections, monitoring and quality audits of the
Contractor’s QMS at any time during the period of the contract to verify compliance with,
and maintenance of, the quality system and contract requirements.

4.2 Submittals

Standard submittals – engineering document requirements are summarized in the Vendor

Drawing and Data Requirements (VDDR).

At a minimum, the following documents shall be submitted to the Client for review prior to
the start of fabrication:

 Certified mill test reports for supplied anchor rods and embedded steel items
 Contractor QMS and quality control manual
 Shop fabrication drawings, anchor rods and embedded steel
 Welding procedures, if applicable

5 Materials
Materials shall be new and of Ecuadorian or American manufacture wherever possible.
Remove damaged or corroded materials immediately from the work and replace them
with new materials.

Miscellaneous metal components shall conform to the following specifications, except

where otherwise specified on drawings.

5.1 Anchor Rods

Anchor rods, nuts, washers, plates and sleeves shall be supplied as per the design
drawings.

Materials and dimensions for anchor rods shall conform to the requirements of ASTM
C F1554 Grade B Fy=380MPa, unless noted otherwise.

Heavy hex nuts for anchor rods shall conform to ASTM A563 Grade A or ASTM A194
Grade 24 to suit the rod type and washers to ASTM F844.

Plates for anchor rod anchorage shall conform to the requirements of ASTM A36.

Anchor rod sleeves shall be made out of mild steel pipe conforming to the requirements
of ASTM A53. In some cases, high-density polyethylene sleeves (Wilson anchor rod
sleeves) may be specified on the design drawings.

5.2 Embedded Items

Rolled steel shapes, anchor plates, plate washers and bars for embedded steel items
shall be in accordance with ASTM A36 or ASTM A992, unless noted otherwise on the
design drawings.

Weld consumables shall be tested to confirm compliance to applicable ASTM for product
form.

5.3 Headed Studs

Nelson type studs, with ferrules, or approved equivalent, shall be provided as noted on
the design drawings.

6 Execution
6.1 Detailing

Detailed shop and placing drawings for anchor rods and embedded steel items shall be in
accordance with ACI 315.

The contractor shall submit all detailed and placing drawings for review and approval
before fabrication.

Rev: C
Date: 2018/04/24
6.2 Shop Drawings

Shop drawings for embedded steel and anchor rods shall clearly indicate the quantities,
locations, sizes, profiles, welding requirements, coating requirements and tag numbers of
all assemblies. A bill of material, showing the element tag number, shape designations,
number of pieces required, length, unit weight and total weight of each assembly shall be
provided on each drawing. All welds shall be shown using welding symbols in
accordance with ASTM A488. Field-welded connections shall not be used, unless
specifically approved by the client.

The review of submittals shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility for
compliance with design drawings, specifications and codes, and for completeness and
accuracy of all dimensions and details.

6.3 Fabrication

Anchor rods and other metal assemblies shall be fabricated to the dimensions shown on
the detailed shop drawings.

Welding of embedded items shall comply with the requirements of AWS D1.1 and ASTM
A488. Prior to welding, written welding procedures shall be prepared for all welds and be
qualified in accordance with ASTM A488. All procedures shall be submitted to the client
for review and approval.

All welding shall be performed in an area protected from rain, wind and air-borne dust
and sand. Parts to be welded shall be carefully prepared. Alignment, jigging and welding
sequences shall be such as to minimize distortion and residual stresses.

Butt welds shall be made in at least two passes, such that filler metal is deposited over
the whole thickness of the joint.

6.4 Surface Protection

Anchor rods and embedded items noted on design drawings as galvanized shall meet the
requirements outlined in ECFN-AUS-GE-000-SPE-01001 – Surface Protection
Engineering Specification.

6.5 Inspection and Testing

The contractor shall provide quality control inspectors to ensure the compliance of all
material and workmanship.

The contractor shall visually inspect all welding in accordance with ASTM A488.

The final acceptance of material/work shall be after third party inspection is approved by
Owner.

6.6 Delivery and Storage of Materials

All anchor rods, associated nuts and washers shall be pre-assembled in the shop. The
anchor bolt assemblies and embedded steel items shall be clearly identified and tagged.
Bundles of same or similar items shall be securely tied to pallets or similar. The tag shall

indicate the quantity, grade, size, piece mark and suitable identification to allow checking,
sorting and placing. Threads and inserts shall be protected against any deleterious
materials. Care shall be taken to avoid damage during shipment.

Miscellaneous embedded steel items shall be supported on timber sleepers, so that they
are kept well clear of the ground, and so that the accumulation of mud, dirt, or other
foreign material is prevented.

Deliveries shall be scheduled sufficiently ahead of installation so that inspections before

dispatch from shop and again before installation can be carried out.
