Research Article 1:
This article highlights Nordstrom and the progress they’ve made towards achieving both
sustainable and (ESG) related goals. They company released their Impact Report of 2022
showing major areas of improvement and aligns with their efforts to run business in a more
responsible and ethical manner. One of the major accomplishments being in the changes made to
their packaging approach. Nordstrom’s goal was to take back over a 100 tons of packages
specifically in the beauty category by the year of 2025. They did so by expanding their beauty
packaging recycling program, Beautycycle, to their discounted stores like Nordstrom Rack.
Consequently they were able to reduce about 30 tons of packaging within just the first year,
which is outstanding. In addition, Nordstrom replaced their plastic shopping bags with paper
bags, which resulted in over 800 tons of plastic waste being removed.
Essentially, this topic of sustainable packaging will affect other aspects of the world by
improving upon the distribution area of the Materialistic System. Sustainable packaging is
beneficial to preserving the planet in many ways such as helping to reduce waste. Changing the
way in which we package our products will help to decrease the amount of plastic that is being
used. Instead companies can revert to using more biodegradable materials that can be easily
disposed and recycled. In addition, the use of sustainable packaging also prevents other
pollutants from entering the atmosphere that can further pollute the world in which we live.
