What is an Aqueduct ?
An aqueduct is a watercourse constructed to carry water from a source
to a distribution point far away. In modern engineering, the term
aqueduct is used for any system of pipes, ditches, canals, tunnels, and
other structures used for this purpose.

The Indira Canal Aqueduct has been made on the Rivers like
Sharda ,Ghagra and Gomti .
It started from the District ‘Lakhimpur’ in Uttar Pradesh.
The construction of this project was started on 17Nov 1973 and it
was completed and inaugurated on the Date of 26Jan 1978 .
It was made on the cost of 230 Million.
It was constructed with the aim to control and distribute theopen
channelflow of water coming from the source to other districts of
the state.
The water is moving with the help of Gravity Force and there is no
need for creating pressure.
The water is now been used for many purposes like Hydropower &
Irrigation etc.
•This Canal helps in to irrigate the 17 Districts.

Main Featuresof “INDIRA CANAL AQUEDUCT”
Length of Aqueduct is 382 meters.
•Discharge Capacity is 357cumec
Flow speed of water in aqueduct is 4.16m/sec .
There are total 12 spans in the structure and Length of Each span
is 31.8 meters.
Maximum Depth of water in the Aqueduct is given as 6.7metres.
The foundations of the structure is of “WELL Foundation
DoubleDType”.
There are Total 12 foundations laid to behold the structure.

A service lane / road has been made adjacent to the
Aqueduct with a given width of 2.45m .
No heavy vehicles are allowed on this lane.
The flow in the Open Channel section is Trapezoidal .
The flow in the Aqueduct is Transitional .

CONCLUSION :
We are thankful to all our faculties for organizing such an Informative
event for us in crucial development of our practical skills regarding
Different types of Flows in a Aqueduct and Canals .
We hope to get more chances further to have such an informative and
