3.2. Training and Workshops Attended
During my internship at the Borena Werda ICT Center, I gained a comprehensive understanding
of system administration, networking, and technical practices. I was involved in various tasks
such as crimping RJ45 connectors, splicing fiber optic cables, and configuring networks. When
crimping RJ45 connectors to Cat5e or Cat6 cables, I learned the importance of correctly aligning
the wires in the correct order before crimping them into the connector. This ensures a secure and
reliable connection for network devices. Properly crimped cables are essential for maintaining
network stability and performance.

I also had the opportunity to work with patch panels, which serve as a central point for
connecting and managing network cables. The benefits of using a patch panel device include
improved cable organization, easier troubleshooting, and scalability for network expansions.
There are various types of patch panels, such as feed-through, punch-down, and modular patch
panels, each serving specific connectivity needs. Understanding how patch panels work is crucial
for efficient network management. Patch panels act as intermediary points between network
devices and structured cabling, allowing for easy connectivity changes without disrupting the
entire network. By using patch cables to connect devices to the patch panel ports, administrators
can quickly reroute connections as needed.

In addition to networking tasks, I also gained experience in disassembling and assembling

computer hardware components. This involved safely removing and reattaching components
such as RAM modules, hard drives, and expansion cards. Understanding how computer
hardware components work together is essential for troubleshooting issues and upgrading
systems efficiently. Overall, my internship provided me with hands-on experience in various
technical practices related to system administration and networking. By mastering tasks such as
crimping cables, working with patch panels, and handling computer hardware, I developed
practical skills that are essential for a successful career in information technology.

3.3. Challenges Faced During the Internship

Limited or Insufficient Cables: One of the major challenges encountered during the internship
was the lack of network cables. This limitation hindered the smooth execution of network
installation tasks and impeded the progress of system development projects. The shortage of
cables restricted the scope of work that could be accomplished within the stipulated timeframe.

8
Time Constraints for Group Work: Another significant challenge was the insufficient time
allocated for group collaboration. Limited time for group work affected the coordination and
efficiency of team efforts. The fast-paced nature of the internship program demanded quick
decision-making and effective communication among team members to overcome this
constraint.

Delayed Arrival of ICT Technicians: The delayed arrival of ICT technicians posed a challenge in
ensuring timely technical support and guidance. This delay impacted the workflow and progress
of projects, leading to potential setbacks in meeting project deadlines. The absence of technicians
at crucial times created a sense of dependency and hindered independent problem-solving.
Adverse Environmental Conditions: The unfavorable environmental conditions, characterized by
societal conflicts and government unrest, added a layer of complexity to the internship
experience. The external factors beyond the control of the interns created an atmosphere of
uncertainty and instability, affecting focus and productivity. Navigating through such
challenging environments required adaptability, resilience, and a proactive approach to problem-
solving.

Discussions(outcomes)

The challenges faced during the internship underscored the importance of adaptability,
resilience, and effective communication in overcoming obstacles in a dynamic work
environment. Limited resources, time constraints, and external factors beyond one's control are
common hurdles encountered in professional settings. By acknowledging these challenges and
developing strategies to address them, interns can enhance their problem-solving skills,
teamwork abilities, and overall professional growth. Furthermore, the internship experience
highlighted the significance of contingency planning, flexibility, and proactive communication in
mitigating challenges effectively. Collaborating with team members to find innovative solutions,
seeking alternative resources when faced with limitations, and maintaining a positive attitude in
adverse circumstances are key strategies for navigating through challenging situations.

In conclusion, while challenges are inevitable in any work environment, it is essential for interns
to approach them with a positive mindset, resilience, and a willingness to learn from setbacks.
By embracing challenges as opportunities for growth and development, interns can emerge
stronger, more skilled, and better equipped to handle future professional endeavors.
