INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Tailoring business is very essential business. It matters for everything in

our lives. It has rich and diverse history that spans thousands of years which it

evolves from ancient handmade techniques to highly mechanized productions.

Tailoring business is a profitable business in the world. (Rachel Kay, 2022). The

tailoring and clothing industry is a labor intensive low-wage business but

interesting and innovative industry depending on the market segments the

industry focuses on. Clothing manufacturers have to deal with a wide variety of

clothing, which it has two categories; the outerwear and innerwear. (Textile Blog,

2021).

In terms of profitability of the business it will depends on the pricing,

quality of the garments, its cost and excellent services for the customers. It

requires also that the business become profitable, it must have the patience,

good strategies and also hard work for it to gain profits. There are common

problems also in tailoring business are the development of markets and also

many competitors, limited by productions time which it delays in delivering

garments, qualities, market and season. One of the greatest challenges of

mechanization in clothing or tailoring industry changes coming about from

advance generation is in training personnels, insufficient information about the

kind of garments like uniforms to be made. And also, the safety problems

because of no provision for emergency lighting, lack of marketing tactics of the

personnels. Way back in the year of COVID-19 pandemic, there is scarcity

happening where there is a suspension of bulk of orders, garment factories are

closed, government mandated to force to shut down because of the pandemic. It

is a way to mix and shape different techniques such as filler placement, sewing,

and ironing to generate the desired tissues in the body. Setting up large scale

tailoring shop or business necessitates a thorough knowledge of pertinent

literature that explores a variety of topics including business models, market

trends, operational effectiveness and client involvement. The concept of this

study is to have a big tailoring shop in Koronadal City in which it can cater more

customers that will provide a wide range of services.

The country has a strong base of skilled and semi-skilled workers,

making it an attractive destination for textile and garments production. It is the

major source of employment in the Philippines, particularly in women’s. This

research aims to establish a large-scale tailoring shop to have a wide and faster

operations, to ensure the highest standards by meeting the customers’ needs

precisely and completely and on time that there is no need to rush. Philippine is

known for producing quality textile and garments for global brands and retailers.

Rationale

The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility a large-scale

enterprise tailoring shop in Koronadal City. It aims the accessibility to a wider

population, standardized patterns and designs, to offer standardized sizing

options to accommodate a broader customer based and to cater to mass

production or high volume of orders from the customers.

The proposed business will be beneficial both owners and customers

because of the advanced technology and production techniques to meet the

demands of their customers. And having a wide variety of garments in terms of

fabrications, sizes and qualities, styling, pricing which is low value, and its brand.

Objectives

This study aims to establish large-scale tailoring shop in Koronadal City.

Scope And Limitations

This study focuses on establishing a large-scale enterprise tailoring shop

here in Koronadal City. There are total of twelve respondents which are the

Private Higher Education Institutions here in the City of Koronadal, but the two

schools named Marbel Institute of Technical College, Inc., Holy Child College of

Information Technology, Inc. is not included because it was transferred at

Surallah, South Cotabato. In addition, due to process in conducting research at

NDMU, the researcher limits the data in the identified university.

The researcher chooses those private institutions for the reason that this

proposed business, which is the large-scale tailoring shop would offer them that

this business can deliver their uniforms on time, good quality fabrics for their

uniforms that can be used in a long-term, it can have a standardized sizing option

of their uniforms. This proposed business offers a wide service such as

alterations, repairs and custom clothing, offers also special promotions and

discounts to attract more customers.

Methodology

Research Design

The study used descriptive exploratory research where the key

information will be determined through surveys and interviews. Descriptive

exploratory is valuable as it provides a foundation for further investigation and

helps to identify research questions, and offers insights for decision-making.

Research Locale

The researcher will be conducted this study in the Koronadal City, South

Cotabato which the researcher wants to establish a large-scale enterprise

tailoring shop it is because there is no existence of large-scale tailoring shop in

the City of Koronadal.

Respondents

There are twelve respondents of this study. These are the

Private Higher Education Institutions here in the City of Koronadal.

Research Instruments

The researchers used survey questionnaire to be distributed to the

respondents. This is self-made survey questionnaire by the researcher. The

survey questionnaire used to ensure the necessary information needed in this

study. Furthermore, the researcher also conducted an interview relevant to data

needed.

Data Gathering Procedures

The researcher conducted one-on-one interview with the small-scale

enterprise tailoring shops pertaining to the process and procedures in making a

good quality kinds of garments like uniforms of the teachers and students and

how they acquire more customers in each day even if it is a small-scale

enterprise business. Then, if they can deliver on time and how much is their price

and availability of their personnel in their shops.

Definition of Terms

Tailoring- is the art of designing, fitting, fabricating, and finishing garments.

Large-scale- is a huge manufacturer that has a huge manpower

Small-scale- is a small manufacturer that has small manpower

Enterprise- is a for-profit company and business with huge revenue.

Garments- is a piece of clothing.

Knitting- is a method for creating fabric out of thread or yarns.

Fabrics- is a material made in yarns.

Tufting- is a textile method in which yarn is inserted into fabric foundation to

create loops or cut tassels without knots.

Polyester- is a kind of fabric which it is commonly used by tailors.

INDUSTRY ASPECT

This chapter will discuss the industry aspect of the study, including the

product, market, capacity of the industry, key success factors, and government

policies. This section discusses the series of topics in general including the

establishing a large-scale enterprise tailoring shop which in Koronadal City has

only have small-scales tailoring shops. Primary and secondary data will be

gathered through internet and interviews.

Services

Having a large-scale enterprise tailoring shop, provides a best possible

service to all the customers which ensures that every day they make their

customers contented, have the confidence to wear their suits because of the

creative and unique designs made by the in-house tailors. This will be a way to

produce a bigger transaction to gain more profits and also to make the business

repairs, and custom clothing, delivers on time and also customers can select

many varieties of a good quality fabrics and garments.

Market

The garment industry has witnessed consistent growth worldwide and it is

been steadily increasing of its global revenue. In the year of 2020- 2022, in the

time of covid pandemic, its revenue declines but in this year, the business

industry has the progress to increase its revenue of US$1.74 trillion, which has a

yearly of 2.84% (CAGR 2023-2027) which is expected to increase to US$ 2

trillion by 2027.

The existence of large-scale enterprise tailoring shop is not yet

established in the City of Koronadal so the researcher thinks that there will be a

potential in catering a wide range of services in which this large-scale enterprise

which it can provide a wide selection of fine fabrics for suits, uniforms, and other

kinds of fabric textiles.

Capacity of the Industry


The Foreign Buyers Association of the Philippines (FOBAP) expects the

domestic garments, textile and apparel industry to peak in the year 2021-2022

will increase into $1.5 billion dollars. The Philippines has already received bulk of

orders from other countries like in Vietnam, China, India, Bangladesh because of

the minimum quantity requirement. Despite the ongoing challenges exacerbated

by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The country’s garments and textile

exports could nearly half to $1.5 billion this year as the industry looks to fill supply

gaps from their manufacturers. (TEX talks, 2022).

The Philippine Garments and textile industry is gearing up to resume its

recovery and regain its reputation as a competitive player in both domestic and

international markets. Further strategic reading the Philippine’s garments and

textile industry braces for rapid recovery. (DTI, 2018).

Major players of the industry

In this proposed study, there is no identified major players but there is

indirect players which are the small-scale tailoring shops here in Koronadal City

which they have also offer such as services.

The quality services that this large-scale tailoring shop is superior since

the City of Koronadal has only small-scale tailoring shops, where in it is better to

establish a large-scale tailoring shop in Koronadal City it is because they can

offer a wide range of services, offer a good-quality garments for the long-term

used, and also provides excellent customer’s service which they are convenient

and can free to select a wide variety of garments inside the shop.

In the tailoring industry must have a skillful tailor that is well-trained and

have a high level of skills and attention to all the details. The competent tailor

must possess a particular set of abilities in; sewing, pattern-making in which they

can make a creative and unique designs for their customers. And also, a tailor

must have the patience and has the capacity to remain calm and cool under its

pressure times.

This proposed business has the sufficient fund to finance the product and

the opportunity to introduce to Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for

funding purpose. The fund of the proposed business will be from the personnel

means of the owner as a working capital and the Landbank of the Philippines for

the additional working capital of the business.

Strength of the Management Team

In this large-scale tailoring shop, there is a strong management team. The

management of this tailoring shop are professionals and a graduate of Master of

Business Administration which they are highly-skilled and very competent

manager with the help of a team competent in terms of educational attainment.

The personnels are well-trained also which they undergo in training.

The current process of tailoring industry by manual work which is sewing

with both hands where it is a handmade before. It can’t be easy to sew and there

is only one machine and if there is a bulk of orders to be deliver. It takes a one to

two days to finish it on time. The tailors have a minimum wage per day which is

now 390 but it depends from the orders of the customers. Tailors must do their

jobs to satisfy those customers and patronize the services they experience. The

tailors must depend only if there is bulk of orders so they can survive and help to

sustain their daily needs and expenses.

Government Policies
In establishing business enterprise, the researcher must comply those

requirements for the legality of the business especially in the City of Koronadal.

The following are the necessary permits need to provide for establishing a

large-scale enterprise tailoring shop in the City:

1. Business Permit (Mayor’s permit) at the Business Permits and also the
Licensing Office of the Local Government Unit of City of Koronadal.

2. Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Registration

3. Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for the labelling for registration

This chapter discuss the marketing aspect including the

services/products, target market, demand and supply analysis, and marketing

programs. The data and figures are gathered through primary and secondary

data. The primary data will be collected and gathered through interview by the

used of survey questionnaires and the secondary data will be gathered in the

Private Higher Education Institutions.

Having a Large-scale Enterprise Tailoring Shop offers a wide range

production of orders of the customers and at the same time it can offers also

many kinds of services like measurement services, embroidery and logo

application, fabric selections and alterations and repairs. And also, it can be more

shop which it provides a good quality and can accommodate bulk or in a volume

services/order. It can be superior that having this large-scale enterprise tailoring

shop it is because City of Koronadal has only small-scale tailoring shops, so it

can be more advantage than small-scale type of tailoring business. And also, this

tailoring shop consist highly-skillful tailors which is well-trained because they

possess a particular set of abilities.

Target Market

The existence of large-scale enterprise tailoring shop is not yet

established in the City of Koronadal so the researcher thinks that there will be a

potential in catering a wide range of services in which this large-scale enterprise

which it can provide a wide selection of fine fabrics for suits, uniforms such as

school uniforms and other kinds of textiles.

The target respondents of the proposed business are the Private Higher

Education Institutions particularly those teachers, students and faculty and staffs

of the schools. This large-scale tailoring aims to produce uniforms, and other

services like measurement services, embroidery and logo application, fabric

selection that they needed especially nowadays tailoring businesses in the city

are limited. These are the potential customers who will acquire the service

offered by a large-scale tailoring.

The proposed project is assumed to gain high sales from the target market

further, it is expected to increase buyers, especially now that many schools had

opened for in-person classes, students are expected to avail this kind of service.

The researchers gathered information to determine the current market

demand of students that have existing tailoring shop for their school uniforms.
