esleck.dl@gmail.com I am excited to apply for the position of Band Teacher in Henrico County Public
804-356-5490 Schools. I am drawn to teaching music because students become united in a
common pursuit of excellence. All musicians participate together, and each
individual’s commitment directly impacts everyone else. This uniquely
collaborative endeavor is a tremendously impactful and fulfilling opportunity for
young people. I am specifically drawn to Henrico County Public Schools because I
am passionate about Music Education in the Richmond area. Henrico is such a
diverse and exciting place to participate in art and students deserve a quality
exposure to the local world of music.

One of the best parts of my teaching experience so far (in Prince George, VA) is
the variety of students in the community. My school mostly serves students who
live on Fort Gregg-Adams. Students regularly move in and out of the community
and come from all across the country and world. I have seen firsthand the unique
community/challenges that students in this type of situation face. I am able to
practice relating to the students and connecting with them on a personal level
while also challenging them musically. In addition, this past fall, I was the Visual
Program director at two different high school marching bands, allowing me to
explore more specific concepts and allowed me to incorporate some of my
experience as a brass player, helping the students at Prince George High School
to earn an excellent rating at VBODA State Assessment and the students at
Freeman High School to earn a superior rating at VBODA State Assessment.

Thank you very much for your consideration and I hope that we can discuss this
position more in person. I would love to learn more details about the position and
teaching in Henrico County Public Schools. As a candidate who is certified to teach
instrumental music K-12 in Virginia, has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and
six years of formal Spanish training, I think I would be an important part of HCPS.
