TUBEHEAD FIRMWARE UPGRADE

WARNING: all the operations described in this technical note MUST be performed by
ACTEON certified technician.

ACTEON will not be responsible for any kind of problem generated by a not skilled
and certified person who will perform the procedure described in this manual

1. CONCERNED PRODUCTS
X-Mind unity all models and all serial numbers.

2. SYMPTOMS
• X-Mind unity, give E209 / E210, and, after 2 tubehead calibration, the problem appear again.

3. PREVENTIVE ACTIONS
• In production area provide tubehead with last firmware release 2.15

4. ACTIONS
• Only in case of E209 / E210, where these errors are not solved with a tubehead calibration or the previous
upgrade to firmware version 2.14, upgrade tubehead firmware with latest release 2.15

5. NECESSARY TOOLS AND SPARE PARTS
• lightweight hammer
• cross screwdriver
• allen key 2,5mm
• allen key 3mm
• pc with windows (o.s.: xp or superior)
• tubehead cable
• usb to COM port adapter and external power supply (furnished in kit)

• autoextracting installation .rar file containing:

- FW release 2.15
- Programming batch file
- Programming software
- Custom cable driver for windows

6. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

1. Double click on “FIRMWARE UPGRADE X-MIND UNITY TECHNICAL NOTE 1601.RAR” file

2. An extraction window will open, with a preset path file: don’t change it! Next, you must type the provided
password

3. Allow the installation of the driver and software proposed:

• the 1 one will be the custom cable windows driver

the 2 one will be the ST microelectronics program software

the 3 one will be the copy-task executable that place into the right folders all the batch files

4. At the end of the installations (may take few minutes) connect the custom usb cable in the usb port.

5. The driver auto installation will start; you will see, in the bottom right corner of the computer, a moving icon,
that will signal you the progress of the installation.

6. Double click on that icon: a new window, showing you the progress of the installation, will appear: click on
the blue sentence named “SKIP OBTAINING DRIVER SOFTWARE FROM WINDOWS UPDATE”, just to stop the
online searching for windows driver.

7. After few seconds, the installation will be done. Next, go to “control panel system device manager” and
take a note of usb serial com port as shown in the picture underneath

8. After the installation, go to c:\COLLAUDO_XMIND\FW\ and find the batch file named “INVERTER_FW_2.15”:
right click on it and select, from the menu, “EDIT”.

9. A new window will appear, and you will be able to change the com port parameter (number indicate by the
red arrow) with the usb com port number, which you had taken note before, just to allow the right command
string to upgrade the firmware.

PAY ATTENTION TO CHANGE ONLY THE INDICATED PARAMETER, IF YOU WILL CHANGE SOMETHING ELSE,
THE UPGRADE WILL FAIL

10. Save the file modification, going in file save.

11. IF YOU ARE INSTALLING THE AUTOEXTRACTING RAR FILE ON A WINDOWS 32 BIT VERSION, PLEASE,
MANUALLY COPY THE FILE C:\COLLAUDO_XMIND\XM2UPDATE.CMD TO THE FOLDER C:\PROGRAM FILES
(X86)\STMICROELECTRONICS\SOFTWARE\FLASH LOADER DEMONSTRATOR OR THE UPGRADE WILL NOT WORK

7. TUBEHEAD DISMOUNT
WARNING: BEFORE TO DO THESE OPERATIONS, SWITCH OFF
X-MIND UNITY AND DISCONNECT IT FROM THE SUPPLY
MAINS.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO UPGRADE ONLY THE AIR BOARD, PLEASE GO TO CHAPTER 8
As in the pictures below, unmounts the tubehead from scissor arm:

The scissor arm has not been designed for use without tubehead.

This operation can cause serious injuries to the operator and damages to the device.

It is ABSOLUTELY mandatory to block the arms together (as shown below) in order to
avoid that the arm suddenly swings up when tubehead is removed.

• remove the plastic plate cover or the sopix inside sensor

• remove the 3 screws (using allen key)

• unplug the connectors and remove the ground wires’ screws

Disconnect the ground ring (1) and ground ring (2) coming
from the scissor arm by unscrewing the fixing screw.
Disconnect the ground wire (3) coming from tubehead
(3). Disconnect 6 poles connector male (4) and female (5).
Make sure that all the cables are free before
disassembling the tubehead.

• Lift the fork top cover and if necessary rotate it till have access to the half-moon clip.

• Push up the tubehead from the fork and pull out the half-moon clip.

• After removing the half-moon clip, pull down the tubehead to disassemble it. Pay attention that cables are
free and not blocked in order to avoid damage them.

• remove the half moon lock and, with extreme care, remove the tubehead from the scissor arm.

Take care to don’t loose the rotation locker

• After removing of the tubehead from the scissor arm, proceed as in the pictures below, just to unmounts the
plastic cover of the tube head:
1. unlock the ring

2. extract the plastic cover: keep in mind the plastic parts are fixed with silicon, take care of the dismount which
could be difficult due to the force of the glue. Try to avoid the damaging of the cover.

3. remove the screws from the flat top plastic cover

4. remove the screws of the metal small cover

5. reach the circuit board.

PAY ATTENTION TO AVOID STATIC

8. FIRMWARE UPGRADE PROCEDURE

• Connect the power supply furnished with the kit and the usb interface cable to the tubehead plugs, as shown
in the picture below:

Plug the USB programmer cable into the Plug the power supply (furnished PSU)
tubehead communication black plug cable into the tubehead white connector

• Put the jumper in the pin strip “C”

Put a jumper on the double pin strip in

position “C”

 5. Go to the folder c:\COLLAUDO_XMIND\FW\ and double click on the batch file “INVERTER_FW_2.15”.
An automatic procedure will start and after few minutes, during which a DOS frame will appear, the upgrade
will be done. Have a look to the DOS window, you will find a scrolling list of done operations, which show you
the right proceeding of the upgrade.

9. TUBEHEAD REMOUNT

10. Switch off the power supply.

 Remove jumper from the pin strip!

• Remount the plastic covers and the tubehead to the scissor arm, following back the dismounting instruction
in reverse mode
