Despite widely held opinions, maybe the union of people cannot be fulfilled

through vast planetary structures but rather through small, decentralized, and
autonomous communities. In this context, the term “community” is used
abusively and does not imply organizational structures of the past, nor is it
solely defined by size (such as a village). Mainly, it aims to express the spirit
and philosophy of an alternative proposal for organizing human life.

Therefore, the community is based on friendship, which is expressed


concretely as the brotherly coexistence of various individuals. This friendship
is shaped only as a result of freedom and authenticity; without these
characteristics, it cannot be established.

As a result of friendship, solidarity is a fundamental element of social


relations in communal production. It would be interesting to analyze the
perspective of solidarity regarding the economy, but such a topic is suitable
for a separate article.

Solidarity permeates not only human relationships but also manifests in the
relationship between humans and nature, the earth, and living and non-living
entities around them. The community helps bridge the ontological divide of
human existence with oneself, fellow humans, and nature.

At the political level, communal organization begins with a democratic


tradition, and its entire course relies on this ancient foundation. Due to the
small size, besides the awareness of the diversity of each citizen, an assembly
is formed (similar to the ancient Assembly of the People, the Ecclesia), which,
without having the same powers in each separate community, remains the
decisive organ of the communal structure.

The communal model also represents a cultural detachment from


individualistic and collectivist societies. The former consider collectivity as
artificial and rely on the absolute superiority of the individual; hence, such
societies are more of an assembly of individuals for practical reasons, without
a deeper connection. The latter, although philosophically starting from the
existence of individuals, end up absorbing individual subjectivity for the sake
of a larger collective entity.

In contrast to other social examples, the political ethos of a democratic
community is not based on promoting collective identity against individual
identity. That, moreover, distinguishes the community from collectivism.
Individuals are autonomous and independent. However, despite their
autonomy, they need other people to be complete; existence is understood
only as coexistence — a paradox of human nature. The community depends
on this inherent principle. It does not reject collectivity, and simultaneously, it
does not nullify individuality; both lead to the ontological mutilation of
humans.

On the one hand, in metropolises with millions of stacked residents, tyranny


over time is inevitable. That is because, in these individualistic societies,
collectivity has been rejected as a convention and a narrative. Yet, it is
precisely in this void of collectivity that tyranny will take root. In this void,
the Tyrant (in any form) will appear as the entity that animates and gives
meaning to others. Paradoxically, the sovereignty of the individual will
eventually mean the absolute annihilation of individual personality.

On the other hand, the community leaves no room for tyranny because each
member participates directly in the administrative organization. Diversity is
neither silenced nor channeled into party mechanisms. On the contrary, it has
the freedom to emerge and develop in companionship with all other
individuals. This way, the connection between the collective and the
individual becomes evident.
However, it is necessary to note that the above does not constitute a manifesto
for an ideal state. It is simply an exploration of a different life pattern that
might help today’s human reconnect with their neighbor and beyond. If and
when this is achieved, it may be a significant step towards a more beautiful
world. Nothing more, nothing less.
