Overview of Course Content

This course is designed to provide you with an overview of key issues and current knowledge
within the field of psychology. Throughout the course, we will grapple with the empirical and
theoretically diverse nature of psychology while we attempt to understand the complexities of
human behavior. Our topics will include: the history and evolution of psychology, research
methods within psychology, the biological basis of behavior, development, learning,
memory, motivation, psychological disorders and their treatment, as well as the fundamentals
of social psychology.

Subject Objectives

• Provide you with an overview of the scientific approach to the study of human behavior.
• Increase your awareness and understanding of the interaction of factors which influence
human behavior.
• Show you how the methods and concepts of psychology can be applied to real life
situations
• Provide you with fundamental concepts on which you can build in later psychology
courses.

Subject Learning Outcomes

 Explain basic psychological concepts & principles through verbal and written form.
 Demonstrate how the method & concepts of psychology can be applied to real-life
situations.
 Explain how psychological conditions can affect human behaviour.
