GOAL

How to setup a position level, and how to assign an Approval Manager a position.

How Positions created in HR are associated to the position levels in AME.

SOLUTION

How to setup a position level, and how to assign an Approval Manager a position

To attach a position level in AME please review Note 391388.1 AME - Attributes Related To Position Not Available For
Transaction Type Oracle SSHR

To attach a manager to a position, set the position via the Assignment form in core HR, not in AME.

How Positions created in HR are associated to the position levels in AME

If the person is associated a position in Core HR, a position hierarchy is also built in Core HR. Users can setup AME to
use this position hierarchy so that the correct person based on his/her position gets the approval notification.

Some additional information from the AME guide:

When using Chain of Authority (List Creation and List-Creation Exception) Action Types, the predefined action types
that generate chains of authority do so by ascending the HR supervisory hierarchy or HR position hierarchy, or by
treating an approver group as a chain of authority.

Action Types for the HR Position Hierarchy

There are two action types for the HR position hierarchy (residing in per_pos_structure_elements,
per_pos_structure_versions, and per_position_structures). The difference between them is how they decide where to
end a chain of authority.

hr position Action Type

This action type generates a chain of authority ending with a specified position.

hr position level Action Type

This action type generates a chain of authority with a fixed number of positions.
