Appendix 1: General Requirements

This Appendix along with the attached BM SHEET (Attachment 3) and other relative

All material shall meet the requirements of codes and standards. When alternative

All materials shall be new, clean and free from cracks, pits, and obvious defects. The

Unless otherwise specified, the application and method of manufacturing types for
FRP/GRP materials defined in ASTM D2310 shall be as follows:

- Type I Fillament-wound type

- Type III Pressure-laminated pipe

The materials shall be FL or UL listed for firewater piping.

Materials shall be used only approved resin system, reinforcing glass fibers, fillers
additives, etc., for which a proven history of performance in this particular application
can be provided. The historical data shall have been acquired from materials of the

same construction and composition as the proposed product. Vendor shall assure the
history of performance in his quotation, and submit reports upon request by Purchaser.

Materials for pipe, flange, fitting, etc. shall be selected based on the design conditions
9 2.1.5 in the attached BM Sheet (Attachment 3).

10 2.1.6 The same type of material as pipe shall be applied to flanges and fittings.

Vendor shall provide hardness, hydrostastic design stress (HDS) values and class

Vendor shall specify the sub Vendors (Suppliers) country of origin, fabrication, and/or

Flange dimensions and tolerances shall be in accordance with the following standards:

Dimension of pipe, flange and fitting shall be in accordance with the applicable

dimensional standard.

Design and manufacturing of FRP/GRP Piping shall comply with the following project
technical specifications and the applicable codes & standards.

Design features and manufacturing method of FRP/GRP shall be in accordance with


17 3.1.2 the design conditions and requirements that are specified in the BM Sheet (Attachment
3).

Vendor shall verify the suitability of the piping components specifications (eg. Wall
18 3.1.3 thickness) considering the specified design conditions and construction site conditions,
etc. in BM Sheet (Attachment 3).

Vendor shall perform stress analysis of the piping within the supply scope. The
19 3.1.4 necessary drawings for stress analysis will be issued at PO stage. The analysis shall
be in accordance with the requirements in the applicable project specification.

Vendor shall perform surge analysis. The result shall be used pressure design. (refer to
20 3.1.5
3.3.2 of this Appendix).

Flanges shall be hubless, and solid integral type with flat-face. The outside diameter
21 3.1.6 and the hole spacing of flanges shall meet the requirements of ASME B16.5 and ASME
B16.47 Sr.B, unless otherwise specified.

When it is required, Vendor shall dispatch the Vendor’s supervisor too construction site
22 3.1.7 for training, supervision during installation, and testing of FRP/GRP piping. The
supervision fee on construction site shall be quoted at bid stage per diem.

Vendor shall specify the bolt length and the maximum allowable bolt tightening torque
23 3.1.8 for all supplied flange materials. The procedure for bolt tightening and the maximum
torque for bolting shall be in accordance with ASTM D4024.

Vendor shall recommend the most economical pipe installation parameters based on

Vendor’s experience and shall evaluate installation parameters.

Vendor shall incorporate necessary changes in the drawings issued by Purchaser for

stress analysis, such as additional and/or change of supports, etc.

26 3.2.1 Dimensions of FRP/GRP piping shall be in accordance with BM Sheet (Attachment 3).

Except when Vendor is responsible for spooling, and unless otherwise specified, pipe
shall be supplied in Vendor’s standard lengths. At least 90% of the total length of each

size and class of pipe, excluding special order lengths, shall be furnished in nominal
length sections.

28 3.2.3 Fitting dimensions shall be in accordance with ASTM D2122 and Vendor’s standard.

Fittings shall have the same inside diameter as the adjoining pipe and shall have equal
29 3.2.4 or superior strength under combined loading from internal and/or external pressure with
applied external bending moments and torsion.

Pressure class rating shall be selected for the service conditions in BM Sheet

(Attachment 3) based on proven Vendor data.

The maximum transient (operating plus surge) pressure of the line shall not exceed the

pipe nominal pressure class by more than 40%.

Pipe wall thickness shall be calculated in accordance with the conditions in the BM

Sheet (Attachment 3).

33 3.3.4 Vendor shall submit wall thickness calculation report for Purchaser’s approval.

Pipe hoop tensile strength shall be verified as specified in the applicable material
standard. All pipes shall be capable of withstanding a test pressure of 1.5 times the

design pressure of the line without leaking or cracking. This verification shall be
periodically performed at the factory at least once per lot.

Corrosion liner thickness may be Vendor’s standard subject to Purchaser’s approval.

The thickness shall be informed in the quotation.

Vendor’s selection & design of end connections, pre-qualified jointing procedures and

Marking may be in accordance with Manufacturer’s standard subject to Purchaser’s
approval. The following items shall be inevitably marked on body or nameplate, but not
limited to:

All material including support shall be marked in accordance with Vendor’s standard.
Vendor shall consider providing a clear marking, for example color coding, to identify
the type of pipe for easy handling at construction site. For example, Vendor can assign

different color on each different FRP/GRP type (e.g. Type I, Type II, or Type III).
Vendor shall submit the specification of marking for Purchaser’s approval.

FRP/GRP piping shall be properly protected and loaded in such a way as to prevent
any mechanical damage during transportation. All openings shall be capped or properly

covered by other suitable protective means.

Exposed machined surfaces (threads, beveled or flanged ends, etc.) shall be coated
with an easily removable corrosion inhibitor. Rust protection for interior surfaces shall

be performed as per Vendor's standard.

Handling and shipping shall be in accordance with the applicable standards and the
41 6.1.1 approved Vendor's standard. Vendor shall provide the handling procedure for
FRP/GRP pping and submit for Purchaser’s approval.

All pipe and fittings shall be properly handled in a safe manner that will not allow
damage, scuffing, or over-stressing. The pipe and fittings shall not be allowed to impact

on any hard objects as non-visible impact damage may occur resulting in future failures
or leakage.

All shipments shall be adequately packaged, braced and cradled in order to prevent
43 6.1.3 damage during transit. Ends shall be adequately protected from damage.

All handling shall be by means of non-abrasive slings for the purpose of preventing
44 6.1.4 damage to the pipe surface. The use of cables or chains is prohibited.

When it is required, Vendor shall provide special tools and provisions for safe handling,
45 6.1.5 construction site installation, maintenance, etc.

Vendor shall submit his standard instructions for construction.

Appendix 2 : Test & Inspection

All inspection, examinations and tests, and workmanship of individual piping material

specifications except as modified or as added in this specification.

Manufacturing data and records, such as material test reports or certificates, result of
non-destructive examination, records of visual inspection and dimensional inspection,

related requisition number and Work number shall be specified in each document.
