Lipids are fatty acids formed by the reaction of a fatty acid with glycerol.

Lipids play an
important role in living organisms. Simple lipids include glycerides, waxes, steroids,
terpenes. Complex lipids includes phospholipids, glycolipids and lipoproteins

Fats are composed of a glycerol molecule and three fattv acid molecules. Saturated fats -
these fats are solid at room red meat, cheese, and butter, Saturated fats are sometimes
called «bad»' fats because thev can cause higher cholesterol, clog arteries, and even
increase the risk for some cancers. A diet rich in saturated fatty acids favours the onset of
Parkinson disease. Unsaturated fats - these fats are liquid at room nuts, vegetables, and
fish.

Unsaturated fats are considered much better for you than saturated fats and are sometimes
called « good» fats. Waxes only have one long fatty acid chain, Waxes are soft and plastic at
room temperatures. Cholesterol is composed of 4 carbon rings bonded together and a
hvdrocarbon tail. Not all steroids are bad.

Our bodies need steroids like cholesterol and cortisol to survive, so some steroids are good
for us. There are also many steroids that doctors use to help sick people. However, anabolie
steroids, used in sport, can be very bad for you. They are composed of a molecule of
glycerol combined with three of a fatty acis suchas searic, palmitic or oleic acid.

Phospholipids are very similar to fats. Phospholipids are one of the main structural
components of all cell membranes
