(*experience of a brother from the US)… Ensure you have your visa and passport ready (although
photos of these documents on your phone should suffice). If you don’t speak Arabic, consider
bringing someone who can translate. Once there, submit your passport and visa. I signed up with an
e-visa.

• Additional Information: Many are unaware that you can also sign up with a tourist visa.
It's not limited to the iqama (residency) as some might believe.

When you reach there, you'll provide basic details like your origin, the preferred study circle for
Quran or mutun (Islamic texts called "mutun tolib al-ilm"), and your preferred study time. There are
two types of study circles: Quran and mutun sessions, available after fajr, asr, maghrib, and 'isha.

• Additional Information: You can sign up for both types of study circles, for example,
Quran after asr and mutun after maghrib.

Express your preference for Quran memorization and they will finish the process. The study circles
are categorized for kids, teenagers, and adults.

• Additional Information: If you need a teacher who speaks your language, just ask. They
will accommodate but only if they have someone available who speaks your language.

Upon completion of the sign-up process, you'll receive a paper with your teacher's name on it. Here's
an example:

Exit the office and locate your teacher by finding their name on a paper atop a pillar (each teacher
will have a piece of paper behind them on top of the pillar that is framed with their name on it and
the name and the number of the halaqa). That's what it looks like (we got permission to take photo):

During the meeting with your teacher, share information about yourself, your duration of stay, goals
in Quran memorization, and what you wish to memorize.

Study circle of Quran Memorization:

(*experience of a brother from the US)… “I came with 9 ajza memorized and completed the
memorization of the rest of the Quran within a year by memorizing 2 pages a day on average
(around 10 pages a week)”.

• Additional Information: At first, you might memorize less, but with time, your memory
will adapt to the task of memorizing the Qur'an, and, inshaAllah, you'll be able to
memorize more. Remember, everyone's memory capacity is different, but the key is to
maintain a sincere intention and put in genuine effort.

Virtue of Seeking knowledge in Al Masjid An Nabawi

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah ‫ رضي هللا عنه‬said:

"I heard the Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬say: 'Whoever comes to this mosque of mine, and only comes for
a good purpose, such as to learn or to teach, his status is like that of one who fights in Jihad in the
cause of Allah… (Sunan Ibn Majah 227)

Visa Information:
(*experience of a brother from the US)… “I obtained a tourist visa rather than an e-visa, which is
stamped on the passport. For US citizens, engaging with a visa service company, providing a passport
photo, and paying a fee secured a six-month tourist visa, allowing for easy re-entry. The six-month
tourist visa proved to be more flexible than the three-month e-visa, as confirmed by personal
experience. After expiration, a simple trip to the Jordan border and back granted an additional six
months without hassle (as this visa requires you to exit Saudi Arabia after 6 months of stay then you
can immidiately get back to Saudi for another six months). So that's the information regarding the
visa.”
Important note: Please be aware that the visa situation is quite dynamic. New visa types are being
issued, and the conditions are subject to change almost on a monthly basis. It's advisable to check
the current Saudi Arabia visa situation for your country. Identify the most suitable visa types based
on the duration of your stay, whether it's for the entire year or just three months.

Accomodation:
(*experience of a brother from the US)… “I am not able to go into precise details In regards to
expenses but it depends from person to person and how much he is willing to spend and what are his
quality-of-life standards. The more luxuries you sacrifice, the cheaper it will be. I rented a room along
with 3 other people for 1300 SAR, 325 SAR per person which is equivalent to almost $90 a month (It
was around 15 minutes away from the Masjid Nabawi). As for food, a single decent meal will be
around 10-15 riyals (~$3-4). Masjid Nabawi provides free lunch that consists of bread, dates, yogurt,
and tea every day after after asr. You can also get rice and chicken right after dhuhr at the “Abu Turki”
location next to Masjid Nabawi. It is on a first come first serve basis. A rough total of my monthly
expenses would be somewhere around 1000-1500 SAR. (~$266-$400)”
Note: Frequently, accommodations near the Masjid Nabawi (which are becoming scarcer due to
demolition and hotel construction) are rented completely unfurnished. In this instance, the brother
along with the roomates purchased and laid down carpeting, installed air conditioning, painted the
walls, and bought beds (or mattresses) out of their own pocket. This is how the room appeared:

My approach to memorizing the Quran and the time I dedicate to it:

(*experience of a brother from the US)… "The way I used to do it was that I would do a daily “soft”
memorization of the two pages I was going to read around 3 days before I would read to my teacher
which I would then strengthen it over the next two days until I read to my teacher. Ideally I preferred
to stay at least 4-6 pages ahead.

Very important note: since this is a quick memorization method, it requires you to be extremely
diligent regarding your review. Otherwise you will easily loose all that you have memorized. You
should be reviewing all the ajzaa’ you have memorized from the Quran at least once week.

As for the amount of time it would take me, I’m not sure because somedays it would take very long
and some days less.”
