Detailed Lesson Plan

In Math 2
By: Mary May P. Alicayos Beed-IV

I. Objectives
At the end of lesson, the grade 2 pupils are expected to:

a. Identify symmetric figure.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Line of Symmetry

B. Reference : Learner’s Material 2, pp 226-229

C. Materials: pictures, power point presentation, Quiz Questionaire

D. Values Integration: Cooperation, Accuracy

III. Procedure
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY PUPILS’ ACTIVITY

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Opening Prayer
Good morning Ma’am.
Good Morning Class!
(Praying)
Everybody stand. Sheena please lead the
prayer.

2. Greetings
Once again Good morning children
We’re great!
How are you this time?
That’s Good!
3.Checking of Attendance None ma’am.
Do we have an absent today?
Wow, very good! Because of that let’s give Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!
ourselves a five victory claps.

3.Setting of Class Standards I will Listen carefully

What are you going to do when somebody is I will raise my hand if I want to answer.
talking, and if ever you want to answer?

That’s good. You need to listen attentively

when your teacher is talking or when your
classmates are talking about our lesson.

This time, I want to make an agreement with

you.
Please read our Key Behavioral Instruction or
KBI.
Introduction of KBI Pupils read the KBI.

This will be our agreement. Whoever follows

our agreement will receive a reward later.

Can you follow our agreement?

Yes, Ma’am

Very Good!

4.Checking of Assignments
What was your assignment last time?
5. Review None, Ma’am.
Ok, class what was our topic yesterday?
Okay very Good! So what have you learned
from our lesson yesterday? Our topic yesterday is all about fraction.

I learned about the .denominator and

Ok, very Good!
enumerator.
So, is there any question about our previous
lesson?

None ma’am.
6. Drill
Class are you excited for our new lesson for
today?
Wow that’s nice!
Yes, Ma’am.
(the teacher will show a flash card of different
shapes)

(the pupils participate actively)

7. Motivation

The teacher show different figure on the chart

and call pupils to come in front and pick up a
figure from the box and match it on the figure
given.

1. What figure on the first picture that you

assemble?
2. What figure on the second picture did you Smiley ma’am.
assemble?
Horse Ma’am
3. What figure on the third picture that you
assemble? Bus ma’am

4. What figure on the fourth picture that you

assemble?
Tower Ma’am
5. What figure on the fifth picture that you
assemble?
Heart Ma’am.
Very good!

B. Developmental Activities (During

Reading)

1. Presentation
Base on the activity that we did earlier, what
do you think our possible topic for today?
What else? Any idea?
Alright all of your answers are connected to I think shapes Ma’am.
our topic now.
Figure ma’am.
Our topic for today is all about Line of
Symmetry. Assembling picture ma’am.

Please be reminded of our agreement to listen

attentively.

2. Discussion
Yes, Ma’am.
Line of Symmetry is a line that that cuts a
shape along the line, both halves would match
exactly and if you were to place a mirror along
the line, the shape would remain unchanged.
(The teacher will show two pictures of an
object. One is a butterfly and the other one is a
picture of a fish.)

1.

The teacher divided the picture into two parts

and put a line of symmetry of the folded line.

What did I do with the picture of the butterfly?

The butterfly is folded into two halves

What did I put in the folded lines?

Yes It is line this is called line of symmetry.
Line Ma’am.

Is the butterfly can be divided into equal

halves?
Yes!

Exactly! the butterfly can be divided into equal

halves.
Yes Ma’am.
Have you see it equal? Are they match each
other? Yes Ma’am.
Are they symmetrical?
Yes ma’am.
Yes they are symmetrical because the figure
can be divided into two halves equally.
Now let’s look at on the picture of the fish .

What did I do with the picture of the fish

The fish is folded into two halves.
What did I put in the folded lines?
Line ma’am.

Yes It is line this is called line of symmetry.

Is the fish can be divided into equal halves?
Yes,

The fish can’t be divided into equally into two No

halves.
Have you see it equal? Are they match each
other? No
Are they symmetrical?
No
They are not symmetrical because the figure
cannot be divided into halves equally.

(The teacher cut the two folded picture through

the line of symmetry, one at a time.)

Is the butterfly can be divided equally into two

halves? Yes

How did I do it? Cutting the line of symmetry ma’am.

Are they match each other?
Yes
Are they symmetrical? Yes
What about the second picture, is the picture
NO
can be divide into two halves?
How did I do it? Cutting the line of symmetry
Are they equal?
No
Are they match each other?
No
(The teacher will paste the picture on the
board.)

3. Practice Exercise
Group Activity
Cut out of different shapes/figure will be given
to each group.

The students participate actively

1. Fold each of the figure given to your

group.
2. Put a symmetrical line on the given
figures.
3. Classify the figure that is symmetrical
and not symmetrical.

4. Generalization:
When can you tell that the figure is
symmetrical?
What do you call the line at the center of the
symmetrical figure? The figure is symmetrical if it can be divided
equally.
What a bright idea you have!
As what I said earlier the line at the center of The line at the center of the symmetrical figure
the symmetrical figure is called symmetrical is called symmetrical line.
line.

C. Concluding Activity (Post Reading)

Application
So now class I will group you in to 4 Count off
1 2 3 4. Each group will name their group a
color.
I will give you only 5 minutes to do your task.
Red Group
Blue group The criteria
Yellow group COOPERATION :35%
Green group NEATNESS:25%
ACCURATE TO TASK GIVEN: 40 %
AND THE TOTAL SCORE IS 100%
Directions: One half of the figure is drawn
alone its line of symmetry. Draw the other half
of the figure.
(Reporting of outputs by group)

Very Good everyone! Now let’s all have we

did it clap.
We did it

We did it

We did it today!

We did it

We did it

Hep hep

Hooray!

IV. Evaluation:
Directions: Choose the picture that shows symmetrical and encircle the letter of the correct
answer.

1. a. b. c.

2. a. b. c.

3. a. b. c.

4. a. b. c.
5. a b. c.

V. Assignment:
Directions: Follow directions given.

1. Write your name on a capital letters.

2. Count the numbers of letters that are symmetrical.
3. Draw a line of symmetry for each symmetrical letter.
