PARTS AND FUNCTIONS OF THE MICROSCOPE

EYEPIECE- The eyepiece or ocular, magnifies the primary image produced by the objective.
COARSE ADJUSTMENT KNOB- It is used for rapid or rough positioning of the specimen at
the focal point of the objective lens.
FINE ADJUSTMENT KNOB- It used to bring the specimen into sharp focus under low power
and is used for all focusing when using high power lenses.
TUBE- It separates the objective and the eyepiece, it also continues alignment of the optics.
NOSE PIECE – This is the part of the microscope that holds two or more objective lenses and
can be rotated to easily change power.
OBJECTIVE LENS – Objective lens in a microscope captures and refracts the light reflected
from an object.
STAGE CLIPS – Stage clips hold the slides in place.
STAGE – All microscopes are designed to include a stage where the specimen (usually mounted
onto a glass slide) is placed for observation.
CONDENSER – It is used to gather wavefronts from the microscope light source and
concentrate them into a cone of light that illuminates the specimen with uniform intensity over
the entire viewfield.
MIRROR – It is used to reflect light from an external light source up through the bottom of the
stage.
ARM – Supports the tube and connects it to the base.
BASE – It serves as a support for microscopes.
