Mathematics Learning Scenario

Topic Quadratic Algebraic Expression

A. Opening
1. Teacher greets sit student with salam
“Assalamu’alaikum. Wr. Wb, how are y’all my the best students?”

2. Teacher praising to Allah SWT


“Alhamdulillah, Thanks to Allah SWT gives us health and spirit for learning in this chance.
Sholawat and salam we say to our prophet Muhammad SAW, his family, best friends, and all of
his followers.”

3. Teacher check attendance of student


“Okay, let’s check the attendance, but when I call your name, answer with ‘ur name here and
say I am ready to learn’. Like this Nita? So Nita say Nita here and I am ready to learn. Kiki? And
Ustazah Anisa? Alhamdulillah, nothing students not present today.”

4. Teacher asking the students to review the previous lesson


“Do y’all remember about algebraic form? Let’s try! In here I have 2x + 4, what's '2'?, what's 'x'?,
and what's '4'?"
5. Teacher give student worksheets.
“This is the worksheets for today and I hope we can learn together and can understand what we learn
today.”
B. Main Activity
1. Teacher explain about Equivalent Expressions.
Give the students card.
“In here I have card for Nita (four cards ‘n’), for Kiki (five cards; three ‘k’ and two ‘I’), and the for Ustzh.
Anisa (five cards; two ‘a’, one ‘i’, one ‘n’, one ’s’)”
Ask the student what card them got.
“Okay, Nita what do you got in yours cards? “ (four cards with four ‘n’, it’s means 4𝑛 is equivalent with
𝑛 + 𝑛 + 𝑛 + 𝑛)
“Kiki, what do you got in yours cards? “ (five cards with three ‘k’ and two ‘I’, it’s means 3𝑘 + 2𝑖 is
equivalent with 𝑘 + 𝑘 + 𝑘 + 𝑖 + 𝑖)
“Ustazah Anisa, what do you got in yours cards? “ (five cards with two ‘a’, one ‘i’, one ‘n’, one ’s’, it’s
means 2𝑎 + 𝑖 + 𝑛 + 𝑠 is equivalent with 𝑎 + 𝑎 + 𝑛 + 𝑖 + 𝑠)
Conclution of Equivalent Expression.
“So, Equivalent Expressions means that expression have same value with other expression.

2. Teacher explain about Expanding Expressions.


Give the students instruction to standing
“Let’s stand up together and see to the out of class, there are any two Tote Bag.” (Teacher take the Tote
Bag to inside of the class)
“Okay, right now the Tote Bag in the inside of the class and bought by Me or Adam bring two Tote Bag”
(Teacher give the Tote Bag to the student until every student ever bring the Tote Bag)
“How much person in this class? Four, that’s good. First is Adam, second is Nita, third is Kiki, and the last
is Ustazah Anisa.” (Tell the students about conclution of the activity)
“From this activity we can say that two Tote Bag seems like the term outside of parantheses (class) and
us the four person seems like the terms inside the parentheses. So, I will write like this with all of person
first letter names”

“This activity related with our next topic, that’s Expanding Expressions.”
Explain about topic Expanding Expressions
Multiply the term outside the parentheses by each term inside the parentheses.
Example.1
3(𝑎 + 1) Multiply by 3 each term inside the parentheses
3𝑎 + 3 If the result didn’t have same variable, so that’s the result

Example.2
(𝑎 − 𝑏)(2𝑎 − 𝑏) If the second term in first parentheses is negative, make it positive
(𝑎 + −𝑏)(2𝑎 − 𝑏) Do the same thing like the Example. 1
(𝑎. 2𝑎) + (𝑎. (−𝑏)) + (−𝑏. 2𝑎) + (−𝑏. (−𝑏))
2𝑎2 − 𝑎𝑏 − 2𝑎𝑏 + 𝑏 2 bcs any terms have same variable raised the same powers.

3. Teacher explain about The Distributive Properly.


Give the related Expanding and Distributive Properly
“If we want to expanding expression, we will use The Distributive Properly. Like before ‘Multiply the
term outside the parentheses by each term inside the parentheses’. I think for The Distributive Properly
enough, bcs we have done to learn it in Expanding Expression.
4. Teacher explain about Factoring Expression.
Give the related Expanding and Factoring.
“Expanding is the opposite of factoring. When you expand a factored expression, you
multiply to get rid of the parentheses.”
5. Teacher explain about Factoring Quadratic Expression
Give the definition of Quadratic Expression
“Some quadratic polynomials can be written in the form of 𝒂𝒙𝟐 + 𝒃𝒙 + 𝒄,
where 𝑎,𝑏 , and 𝑐 are known values and 𝑎 is not zero.”
“If 𝑎 = 1 in quadratic polynomial, you can try to factor it by following these steps:
• Find 𝑎 factor pair for whose sum is 𝑏.
• Use the factor pair to factor the quadratic polynomial.”
Example.1
𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 + 2
So, 𝑐 = 2 and 𝑏 = 3, find 𝑎 factor pair for 2 that adds to 3.
Factor pairs of 2 Sum of factor pairs
1.2 1+2=3
The fators 1 and 2 𝑎 sum of 3.

Now, use the factor pair to factor the quadratic polynomial. Write the polynomial as the
product of two binomials: the sum of 𝑥 and the first factor, 1, and the sum of 𝑥 and the
second factor, 2.
𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 + 2
= (𝑥 + 1)(𝑥 + 2)
So, the factored form of 𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 + 2 is (𝑥 + 1)(𝑥 + 2)
C. Closing
1. Teacher ask question if any some think make the students confused from his lesson.
“Before we close the lesson, any question?”
2. Say thanks for the student attention and close with hamdallah together.
“Let’s close this lesson with hamdallah. Wassalamu’alaikum. Wr. Wb. Thankyou everyone.”
