METHOD STATEMENT FOR INSTALLATION OF WELDOLECT ON TANK FARM 1
ON PRODUCT PIPING.

SCOPE AND PURPOSE

This "METHOD STAEMENT" covers the onsite:


INSTALLATION OF WELDOLECT ON TANK FARM 1 ON PRODUCT PIPING
And the requirement of checks to be carried out.

the project Documentation;

GENERAL

INSTALLATION OF WELDOLECT ON TANK FARM 1 ON PRODUCT PIPING generally includes


all types of Supply fittings and their accessories such as Spiral Wound Gasket, Bolts & Nuts, Weldolet
etc

SAFETY

1. Work will commence as per safety regulations laid down in the contract specification and
project safety plan.
2. All personal protective equipment shall be used as appropriate according to the nature of job.
3. Housekeeping shall be of good standard and all cut lengths shall be removed.
4. For safety reasons all equipment structures and accessories shall be protected with fire blanket
to avoid damage.
5. Safety barriers shall be used to barricade the area where the activity is to be carried out in order
to prevent any unauthorized person entering the area and to serve as warning signal to other
people.
6. All personnel involved shall put on their personal protective equipment (PPE).
7. Major fabrication, welding and installation works shall be done on-site as practicable as
possible.
8. Fire extinguishers and safety officer shall be provided by KEMDIO at the site of the activity.
9. APAPA DEPOT will support the firefighting when necessary.
10. APAPA DEPOT safety personnel shall gas test the area using appropriate tools (explosimeter
BM-25) and direct KEMDIO to commence work after satisfactory confirmation of no presence
of gas.
11. Kemdio will bring their own explosimeter to site of activities
12. APAPA DEPOT safety and operations personnel are to be present throughout the duration of
any hot work.
13. During fabrication/installation activities, all necessary safety measures shall be adopted in order
to prevent any unsafe condition for the personnel involved. Particular care shall be taken when
lifting heavy fittings.
14. Additional safety precautions such as barriers, signs, and protective screen, warning tapes shall
be used where necessary. Areas where major risk is expected shall be isolated and tagged.
15. In addition to the above, all safety measures detailed in SAFETY POLICY shall be adhered to.
16. Risk assessment/control shall be implemented with the safety/security hazard register as in our
HSE PLAN.
17. KEMDIO to perform a walk down of the piping system to ensure that upstream and downstream
of the work location are adequately and safety LOTO and positively isolated by
TOTALENERGIES, prior to commencement of any work activities.
18. Ensure availability of trained firewatcher round the clock during hot work activity.
19. Gas test for Flammable atmosphere to be conducted up to 15 meters of work location and
confirm 0% LEL.
20. Ensure flushing of the product piping 100% by TOTALENERGIES APAPA DEPOT.

ENVIRONMENTAL

1. All workers shall be educate on good environmental management practices and well-
disciplined to environment.
2. The garbage bin shall be provided at the working area and Supervisor shall ensure its must be
collected regularly and disposed-off at the approved dumpsite.
3. Safety team shall ensure that no open burning of construction or domestic wastes is practiced.
4. All workers shall ensure that all tools and equipment machinery are in good condition to avoid
any oil leakage that could harm to environment.

METHOD STATEMENT

General

The work shall include but not limited to the following:

1. Installation of weldolect on tank farm 1 on product piping.

POSSIBLE HAZARDS ON HOT WORK

1. Electrocution
2. Fire outbreak
3. Flying particles

SAFETY MEASURES TO PUT IN PLACE FOR HOT WORKS

1. Weld only in well-ventilated areas.


2. Use the require PPE.
3. Do not weld, cut or grind near flammable or combustible materials, liquids, vapors and dusts.
4. Have the appropriate fire extinguisher close by (DCP 9kg)
5. Uses only approved equipment in good condition and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
6. Inspect equipment for loose connections, bare wires or cables before operating.
7. Handle compressed gas cylinders safely, following proper use and storage procedures.
8. Keep aisles and stairways clear of cables and equipment.
9. Keep other people a safe distance from welding and cutting operations.
10. Learn first aid techniques for burns, poison inhalation, shock and eye injuries.
11. Know where the safety showers and eyewash stations are and how to use them.
12. Provide safety watch for high risk activities.

METHOD OF PRE JOB


1. Ensure that approved material required to carry out work will be available.

2. Prior to commencement of work, area and access will be inspected to confirm that the site
is ready to commence the work
3. All relevant documentation and material applicable to particular section of works will be
checked by site Project Engineer before commencement.
4. Physical verification of material will be carried out for any damages prior to taking from store.

5. The site supervisor will give necessary instruction to workers.


6. The site supervisor will also check that tools and equipment available are in compliance
to Contract requirements.
7. The site supervisor is to conduct a toolbox meeting for all workers on the job.
8. Ensure availability of firefighting system.
9. Ensure flushing of pipeline by TOTALENERGIES APAPA DEPOT.

WELDING AND INSTALLATION WORKS

1. Position the chain block stands to aid the unfasten and dropping of the spools.
2. Hang the chain block to the stand.
3. Hook the chain block to the ready to unfasten spool (Ensure firmness round the tighten hook)
4. Unfasten out all bolts & nuts of all the piping spools and TRV line with brass spanners.
5. Remove the TRV and ball valves and keep for re-use.
6. Cut the TRV nozzles off the pipe top with grinding machine.
7. Grind the cutting surface to sound metal with grinding machine.
8. Fix and tack-weld the weldolet on top of the pipe spool.
9. Fix the cut TRV nozzle into the tack-welded weldolect.
10. Ensure proper plumbness and straightness.
11. Weld properly the tack-welded places.
12. Repeat the procedures for all product piping spools.
13. Prepare the spools for installation back to the pipeline.
14. Grind the surface of all the spool flanges and valves flanges with grinding machine to remove
dust and dirt.
15. Prepare the hoisting operation.
16. Place the spool back in place manually and hook the chain block to the spool.
17. Pull on the hand chain to lift the spool to position and pass the new bolts & nuts through the
spool flange and pipeline flange.
18. Put the new spiral wound gasket in between the flanges and pass all the require bolts & nuts and
fasten with brass spanners.
19. Lock the bolts & nuts with brass spanners and hammer.
20. Fix and fasten as require all the TRV and ball valves on the spool nozzles and to the relief pipe
lines.

PAINTING PROCESS

1. Painting of Primer coat with roller and brush.


2. Painting of Finishing coat with roller and brush.

COMMISSIONING & HAND OVER OF ENTIRE FACILITY

1. Demobilize equipment and materials from site.


2. General House-keeping.
3. Hand over.
