General Specifications
General Specifications
The works shall be carried out according to the Technical Specifications and shall govern the
methods of construction and the kind of materials to be used for the proposed building as shown
in the plans and detail drawings. The plans, detail drawings and technical specifications shall be
considered as completing each other, so that what is mentioned or shown in one, although not
mentioned or shown in the other, shall be considered as appearing on both. In case of conflict
between the two, the same shall be referred to the project in charge for resolution. All works
shall be carried simultaneously with other services. Materials not conforming to Specifications
shall be rejected.
1. The Contractor shall secure from the government agencies all necessary licenses and
permits needed.
2. Cleanliness shall be maintained at all times within the job site and its immediate premises.
3. If errors omissions appear in the drawings, specifications or other documents, these shall be
referred to the designing architect/project engineer.
4. The building site shall be filled up to the required grade.
5. All applicable provisions of the different divisions of the specification for each work trade shall
apply for all items cited in this summary
6. Materials deemed necessary to complete the work but not specifically mentioned in the
specification, working drawings, or in the Contract Document, shall be supplied and installed by
the Contractor without extra cost to the Owner. Such material shall be of the highest quality
available and install and applied in a workmanlike manner at prescribed or appropriate
locations.
7. Materials specifically mentioned in this Summary shall be installed following efficient and
sound Engineering and Construction practice, and especially as per Manufacture's application
and installation specification, which shall govern over all works, eluded in this Specification.
8. The Contractor shall clean the site and disposed waste after the completion of the project.
SPL 1 – MOBILIZATION
The Contractor shall mobilize all the required project team personnel, equipment, tools, and
manpower with the required skills and in sufficient number as may be necessary for
efficient undertaking of the project.
SPL 2 – BILLBOARD
The Contractor shall erect standard project billboard at the site giving details of the Contract in
the format provided by COA. It shall be removed upon receipt of Certificate of Completion.
SPL 3 - TEMPORARY STRUCTURES & FACILITIES
The Contractor shall provide and maintain the following:
a) Temporary office and/or quarters for the Contractor’s project team personnel with water, light,
and toilet facilities.
b) Temporary bunkhouse/quarters for the contractor’s workforce complete with toilet and bath
facilities. Temporary structures and facilities shall be demolished and cleared after completion of
construction and the demolished/removed materials shall be turned over to the MSU-IIT Supply
Office. The Contractor shall submit to PPD water meter and electric meter for proper recording
and accounting of the water and power consumption of the Contractor during the project
contract period.
This division covers all earthworks at the site including trench, excavation, filling and backfilling
of the building utilities.
1.1 Clear areas, within which building and related construction and site grading are to be
accomplished, of matted roots, brush, snags, vegetation, rubbish, spoils, and other
objectionable materials, or unnecessary matter, including existing structure which can hinder the
work development for the project.
a)Undertake excavation work to grade lines required. Trim excavation to required lines and
grades.
b) Excavation work shall include removal of such materials that may cause slides, slips,
cave-ins, or filling due to action of such natural elements.
c) Undertake structural excavations to depths indicated to obtain necessary indicated values.
Bottoms of excavation for footing and foundations shall be level, clean and clear of loose
materials. Make proper allowances for gravel bed. Extend excavations to a sufficient
distance from walls and footings to allow for proper erection and dismantling of forms.
d) Secure inspection and approval of excavations from the Engineer or his
representatives before pouring any concrete, laying underground services or placing select
fill materials.
e) Provide adequate shoring and bracing that may be required to protect the sides of
excavations from caving-in. f)Keep all trenches and pits free from water resulting from any
source. Should this require pumping, it is to be done so as not to allow water to
accumulate before backfilling.
f) If the required safe-bearing power is not obtained at the excavation indicated on
drawings, the Contractor shall inform the Project Engineer of the institute assign to the
project before continuing the work.
g) No pouring of concrete shall be done by the contractor unless bearing surfaces has
been approved by the Engineer and the authority to proceed has been received by him (the
contractor).
a)All excavations shall be backfilled as work permits after concrete walls, tie beams and
column have attained full design strength and (or) as the Engineer directs.
b)After forms have been removed from footings, walls, column, foundation, etc., the
materials from excavations (free from waste and objectionable matter) shall be used for
backfilling around them. This filling shall be made in layers not exceeding 0.20m (8”)
inches in thickness. Each layer being thoroughly compacted and ramped by wetting. Last
layer shall be compacted up to 90% degree of compaction. Materials not used (excess
excavated
c)In spaces where slabs rest on ground, or on earth fill (as specified) this shall be leveled
and accurately graded with 0.05m (2”) inches of class A gravel and sand, and tamped
thoroughly before concrete pouring is done.
d)All exterior grades shall be formed in accordance with drawings and specifications,
taking into account the requirements for landscaping work, if any, and giving due
allowances for the top soil depth.
III. CONCRETE FORMWORKS
SECTION 2- MATERIALS
A. CEMENT
-Cement shall be Portland cement and shall conform to “Standard Specifications for
Portland Cement” (ASTM C-150/PNS7).
B. CONCRETE AGGREGATION
a)Concrete aggregates shall be well graded, clean, hard and durable particles of
gravel or crushed rock conforming to the “Standard Specifications for Concrete
Aggregates” (ASTM C33/PNS18).
b)The maximum size of the aggregate shall not be larger than one-fifth (1/5) of
the narrowest dimensions between sides of the forms nor larger than three-fourths
(3/4) of the minimum clear spacing between reinforcing bars, and in no case larger
than two (2”) inches diameter.
c)Water: Water used in mixing concrete shall be clean and free from injurious
amount of oil, acids, salts, alkali, organic materials and other deleterious substances.
b)Job mix adjustments on water content shall be allowed only on permission of the
Engineer and provided that cement is also added to keep the original water cement ratio of the
design mix.
c)Concrete proportioning:
