obtained from any other physical by multiplication or division of
quantity e.g. length, mass, time, basic physical quantities e.g. area,
electric current e.t.c volume and density

6. - oiling - greasing 2 marks

7. The water drop experiences a greater adhesive force with glass than 2 marks
cohesive forces between its own molecules while the mercury drop
experiences greater cohesive forces between its own molecules than
adhesive forces with glass.
8. Air expelled/exhaled by the room occupants is warm and less dense. It 2 marks
rises up and through the ventilation holes. Cool fresh air flows into the
room to replace the risen warm air.

9. (a) The density decrease 1 mark
(b) Volume increases 1 mark
10. Wax in B fall off after sometime because the heat reaches the top of the 3 mark
glass by convection and in A wax did not fall off because water and glass
are poor conductors hence heat dos not reach the bottom of the glass

11. (a) Capillarity 1 mark

(b) The adhesive between the glass and water molecules is greater 2marks
than the cohesive force in water hence the water rises up the tube.

12. - Temperature 2 marks

ha = 1.25×10 = 1632m✓

SECTION B(65 marks)

14. (a) This is the constant random movement of particles caused by the 1 mark
uneven bombardment / collisions of gas or liquid particles.
(b) (i) Bright surface are carbon particles /smoke particles 1 mark
(ii) They move randomly 1 mark

(iii) The random movement of these bright specks is because 2 marks

they are hit by the invisible air molecules which are in
continuous random motion hence causing these particles to
randomly move.
(iv) They are large compared to air particles 2 marks
They reflect light when it falls on them hence visible

(c) In solids particles are closely paused therefore the intermolecular 3 marks
space is negligible and has strong intermolecular force. Liquids
have a small intermolecular space and force is not strong as in
solids. Gases have very weak intermolecular force therefore
intermolecular space is wide.
