RICHARD CORY
BY EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON
Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him:
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim.

And he was always quietly arrayed,

And he was always human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
"Good-morning," and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich—yes, richer than a king—

And admirably schooled in every grace:
In fine, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,

And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

GROUP 3: CHALLENGES ARE GENDERLESS (SOCIAL AWARENESS)

especially those who have differences from ourselves and treat others with care, kindness, respect, equality,
and appreciation no matter how different or alike we are.

Select 4 members in your group to act out as representative in the given scenarios. Using the
handkerchiefs, blind fold them and put the statements below. The rest of the members will act as “hugger”.

GROUP 4: LEARN TO LET GO

Situation: We indeed wear a mask. Many people hide their feelings from others by masking what is within
with false appearances.

At times, we wear real masks to hide our faces, like when we dress up in a costume party. Other times,
we wear “imaginary masks” — the kinds that other people can’t see. Imaginary masks hide our feelings from
other people. We wear an imaginary mask when we pretend to feel something that we don’t really feel.

Sometimes, if we keep those things inside us, it hurts us to the extent that we forget to appreciate the
beauty of life. Today, let us learn to let go our pains. In your group, using a white cartolina draw 1 big mask and
write down all your feelings, pains, struggles and problems in the mask. Afterwards, tie it using the balloon/s
the teacher will give you and let your mask fly in the sky.
Process Questions:

1. Why do you need to learn to let go of your pains, negative emotions and problems?
2. How do you manage them? How do you move on?
