Activity for Basic Mentoring:

Please answer the following questions:

1. What values guide you in your role as a tutor and how do you role model these values when
interacting with students?

Caring is what drives me as a person, no matter the capacity. I will go out of my way to help any
person and provide them with resources if I am able. Caring goes beyond race, background or
ethnicity.

Responsibility: My responsibility is to educate students, thus I need to educate myself first and
come prepared to my tutorial sessions.

2. What boundaries have you implemented to govern your interactions with students?

Some boundaries I have implemented include no talking while I am busy explaining anything
important. I have also asked student in order to use the slides and questions I have prepared
they need to first show a level of participation. And when they come late for class I will not be
able to repeat myself every time.

3. Which UJ resources have you referred students to and how have you managed to convince
students to make use of these resources?

An example of a psychology resource is mind tap, this platform can be used to test yourself and
your level of knowledge. If students complete the course they are able to add 30% to their
semester mark and it is not hard to complete.
