Reflection 2

A crucial insight l acquired from the module is the importance of active learning

approaches in enhancing learning experience. Active learning is the process of involving

people in activities that need them to reflect, interact and participate on the issue or situation

actively. Whereas, passive learning involves individuals primarily receiving information

passively, such as by reading materials or through lectures. Active learning approaches

promote problem-solving skills, critical thinking as well as knowledge application in real-

world settings (Bean & Melzer, 2021). The activities encourage people to be active in

developing their understanding, generating new concepts and knowledge, and making

connections. Through simulations, case studies, group discussions, hands-on experiences, and

other interactive approaches, individuals are actively involved and dedicated to comprehend

and explore the topic issue deeply.

Active learning activities may be integrated to various learning theories such as

constructivism, cognitivism and behaviorism. For instance, behaviorism stresses the

significance of repetition and reinforcement in learning. In active learning, learners may

engage in role-playing to practice their desired habits and get feedback to support their

learning. Cognitivism emphasizes the mental processes engaged in learning, such as problem-

solving, attention and memory. Active learning activities may include concept mapping

initiative, brainstorming sessions, or problem-solving tasks, which help learners in organizing

and processing information to improve understanding (Bean & Melzer, 2021).

Constructivism outlines the concept that learners actively develop their knowledge and skills

through social interactions and interactions with the setting. In active learning, it may involve

hands-on experiments, group discussions, or collaborative projects where learners interact to

construct knowledge and negotiate meaning collectively.
