Pe teacher

Route 1

Step 1-College /6 level

– A level Pe, level 3 btec sports national diploma, sports level extended certificate

-All are two-year courses

Step 2-University -Plymouth Marjon university

Course- BEd (Hons) Physical Education –secondary education with QTS

– physical educations Ba QTS entry requirements:

• UCAS tariff 112-120pts


• A level BBC
• BTEC level 3 extend national
• HE diplomas –D:24 credits M:21 credits P:0 credits

It is a three-year long course

Step 3- looking to get a job

-Within secondary schools deciding what area you'd like to work or must move

Head of department

To become a head of a pe department you must meet the following requirements:

• Qualified teacher status through an undergraduates QTS degree


• PGCE or training on the job
• Experience teaching Pe /outstanding knowledge of the subject

Route 2
Step 1-College /6 level

– A level Pe, level 3 btec sports national diploma, sports level extended certificate

-All are two-year courses

Step 2- Apprenticeship-Post graduate teaching apprenticeship -university of Buckingham

Requirements:

• 5 GCSES grades from 9-4 or equivalent (including maths and English)


• GCSE science grade 9-4 (a*- c) for primary school teaching
• A degree for a teaching apprenticeship

Step 3 – look for a job

Usually 20 months (about 1 and a half years) with 4-day courses and 1 contact lesson
every 3 weeks

To become a head of a pe department you must meet the following requirements:

• Experience teaching Pe /outstanding knowledge of the subject

Then you can work towards becoming an assistant head teacher so you may already be a
head of department or pastoral leader and want to advance to the position of assistant
headteacher. As part of your decision to apply for the position of assistant headteacher,
you may have also chosen to complete a National Professional Qualification in Senior
Leadership.
