How to start using Midjourney

Step 1:
Ensure you possess a Discord account (https://discord.com/). Midjourney operates exclusively
through Discord, meaning an account is required to utilize its features. If you haven't already, you can
create a Discord account at no cost.

Step 2:
Visit the Midjourney website. Here, choose Join the beta. This will automatically take you to a Discord
invite.

Step 3:
Accept the invitation to Midjourney on Discord and choose to Continue to Discord.

Step 4:
Your Discord app won't open automatically. Once you open it, navigate to the left menu and click on
the icon resembling a ship's journey, labeled as "Midjourney."

Step 5:
To sign up for a Midjourney plan, make your way to one of the newcomer rooms in Midjourney's
Discord, such as #newbies-130 or #newbies-160.

In the message field, type the slash command "/subscribe" and press enter or return. This command
lets Midjourney know that you're interested in subscribing.

After running the command, a link will appear, which will lead you to a page where you can choose
and sign up for one of Midjourney's paid plans.

The plans range from the Basic Plan, starting at $10/month and allowing for around 200 image
generations per month, to the Pro Plan, which costs $60/month and provides roughly 1,800 AI-
generated images.

Once you've successfully signed up, return to Discord to begin using Midjourney's services.

Recommended settings before the first image generation

Midjourney operates within the Discord community, specifically catering to artists. However, the
#newbies channels can be quite chaotic due to a large influx of prompts and requests from users.
Browsing through the various channels is a great way to observe successful prompts and learn from
mistakes.

As a paid user, you have the option to send commands to the Midjourney bot via direct messages.
Although these messages will still be visible in the members gallery by default, you can subscribe to
the Pro plan for access to private image generation.

Add Midjourney Bot to Direct Messages

To add a Midjourney Bot to Direct Messages, right-click on "Midjourney Bot" in any Newcomer room
and then select Message.

Switch to Relax Mode

In the box, type /Relax and press Enter. This will change your image generation mode from fast hours
to relaxed hours if you have a Stand or Pro membership. This means you will have unlimited image
generation within your subscription.

Alternatively, you can adjust the relax and fast modes in settings by typing /setting into the Discord
chat.

Generate your first image

To submit a prompt, use /imagine command, then click on „prompt:“ and type in your ideas.

After submitting your prompt to Midjourney, wait for about a minute while the AI generates several
different image versions based on your description.

1) U buttons upscale an image generating a larger version of the selected image and
adding more details.
2) V buttons create slight variations of the selected grid image. Creating a variation
generates a new image grid similar to the chosen image's overall style and
composition.
3) The (re-roll) reruns a Job. In this case it would rerun the original prompt producing a
new grid of images.

Aspect Ratio
The --aspect or --ar parameter adjusts the aspect ratio for the resulting image. An aspect ratio
represents the relationship between an image's width and height, often displayed as two numbers
separated by a colon, like 7:4 or 4:3.

A square image has identical width and height, referred to as a 1:1 aspect ratio. For instance, images
sized 1000px × 1000px or 1500px × 1500px both have a 1:1 ratio. A computer monitor might feature a
16:10 ratio, where the width is 1.6 times greater than the height. Possible dimensions include 1600px
× 1000px, 4000px × 2000px, or 320px × 200px.

By default, the aspect ratio is set to 1:1.

Use whole numbers for the --aspect parameter, such as 139:100 instead of 1.39:1.

The aspect ratio influences the generated image's shape and layout.

When upscaling, some aspect ratios might be slightly altered.
